Thank you. In today's disposable society, people have forgotten that there was a time when things were built-to-last. The pre-condition to restoring something is that it had to be well-built, I'm happy you too found and brought back to life a bicycle that people had given up on.

can this bike be rideable again?, or its just too much rust and possibly it will be unsafe to ride it. please help me decide, im confused.

Thinking about all the people who have ridden this bike, all the lost memories down through the years, to see it rejuvenated and ready to create new memories with new people instead of being thrown in the trash makes me feel quite emotional. being in the family bicycle business of nearly a 100 yrs(now ceased trading) i must say that has got to be one of the nicest bicycles i have ever seen,most vintage bicycles have been abandoned or have decayed quietly in a shed somewhere never to be loved again.once in a blue moon someone like you finds one and rescues it from further decay and lovingly restores it back to its former glory.a cracking job and a true credit to cycling history well done :o)

Wow. All I can say is wow. What a beauty. Can't believe it only took you two months to do it. The thing that strikes one (aside from the labour of love you put into restoring her) is the level of detail in the original design. There is no functional need for all those touches, but they put them there anyway to create the feeling of a craftsman's product and a cherished object. Love how you kept the original saddle.

Yes, yes, yes. Let there be full steel fenders, sprung leather saddles, chain cases and bells for everyone! Thank you for your kind workds.The paint is original only used compound and touch up. Good luck on your restoration and happy wheels to you.
Cheers. British built bicycles from the 1920's till late 1950's are the greatest bicycles in terms of form and function. All steel, leather saddles, internal 3-speed, internal dynamos, center pull rod brakes for both front and rear, front and rear full fenders and chaincase. Marvelous machines, simple and practicle. Japanese adopted British standards, they did well, but nothing beats the original. Happy wheels.

I can see a person riding this bike, back in the day it was new to them, tasks of the day...whatever...what wonderful effort is seen here to remind us of craftsmanship...but more about simpler times....

Thank you for taking the time to comment, and your kind words. Since all the chrome parts (with the exception of the rims which were replaced with same period leftover stock) cleaned up with just steel wool, and, frame, fork, fenders all cleaned up with simple rubbing compound, it is a testimony to the quality of the product that the humble and hard working Japanese who produced this bicycle. You are correct, it is nice to know I played a small part in providing a new lease on life.

This is more than just restoring a bike, it's breathing life into a classic bicycle from a booming era of prosperity after Japan was transformed into a Democracy. From a time when they designed and built bicycles without the tired "how light can we make it" train of thought. Instead they built them with a genuine passion for reliability and aesthetics. Kudos on an amazing restoration.

What a beautiful bicycle, you've done a fine restoration. I ride a 70 year old bicycle as my regular mode of transport and very much love old bicycles.
Hi Anne I think many times people are unintentionally lead around by mass marketing and trying to keep up with the Jonses. I find many old product better than current ones simply because they are over engineered to last a long time, simpler, and not a black box so provided parts can be found they can be fixed.

I just got given a 1953 Triumph ladies bike in similar condition. Seems solid but has maybe 30% surface rust. I like what you did, very inspiring.

Thank you Mate. Previously I had been riding a 27 speed road bike, I wasn't happy, I was bent over in an uncomfortable position, using padded gloves, padded pants for comfort. Once I mounted this old bicycle the joy and simplicity of bicycling I had enjoyed as a child with my medium weight ballon-tire single speed Schwinn all came rushing back to me. Comfort is built-in. Realized I had allowed mass marketing and advertising to sway me to follow the crowd. Won't happen again. Happy wheels!

It is the anti-everything compared to the light-weight, no fendes, no chaincase, skinny high-pressure tire, multi-geared bicycles that zip past me. But just like "slow food" simple is better, enjoy the ride.

This is absolutely a beautiful bicycle ! I accidentally run into you while looking for how to fix my Raleigh pedal on youtube. We have very common interest. I love these bicycles. I have 1 Raleigh 1 Chinese Phoenix,1 BSA made in India they are beautiful very comfortable bicycles. It is a pity that the world has advanced past these beauties. They are made of genuine steel parts, very elegant style 3 spring seats ! I applaud your video - really speaks my mind. I love Cannon since 1973 when it was discovered. I probably don't have all you knowledge/ skills to restore a bicycle in such condition, but I sincerely love these bicycles, very much. Hope to hear from you soon.

I LOVE this video! What great work! I've always had a particular admiration for people who, in this lazy, throw-away society, can take something many people would consider "garbage" and restore it to its former glory. Instead of ending up in a landfill somewhere, you have a functional work of art! Inspiring! I wish I could learn to do it myself. Awesome job!

This is a most enjoyable video. Not only was the work you did amazing, but the way you put the video together made it more so. I would love to do something like this, but have never attempted it. After this video it sure makes me want to give it shot though.

Wow that is so cool!and i couldnt agree with you more when you said that underneath all the rust and grime is a treasure waiting to shine once again! I bought an old rusty bike once too and my family thought it was a terrible idea but after a week of cleaning with household concoctions and materials since i couldnt afford the appropriate materials, and tightening up a few bolt and replacing a couple more it was like new! i would like to restore more bicycles and collect them but i dont have room
This is true "mottainai". People in Japan today like to use the saying "mottainai (waste not)" with enthusiasm, but have very little knowledge of what that means. I see treasures like this, thrown out like trash, or dumped in the river. With success, the society has become much too superficial to own a used or old bike, car, house, etc. Most cars are traded in after three years and scraped after five. It's good to see someone saving these fine works of craftsmanship and history.
