I am from India.. I have this bicycle from 2012. In India this bicycles are still popular and 80% - 90% people were bought this classic bicycle. Still now these bicycles are sell in the market in Rural areas & Villages and towns. Thank you 🙏
This is a good example of antique bicycles.A lot of good old bicycles and rare parts that are hard 2 find in 2011. I'm only 25 years old from OK,city and I am into prewar, antique bicycles and have been since i was around 13 years old.I am a collector, builder of 40-70'sHaving hard time to find year of,down to the 40's,dont know what 2 do.Thats why I havent mess with the older 1's,more valuble bikes.I just wish this had years of bikes.Still a nice vintage bicycle video that deserves an applud!Wo
Most people think "old" is no good. We live in a disposable society where things are no longer built-to-last. There was a time where things were simple and lasted a lifetime. Today things are made to catch the eye, but as is the case with old bicycles, the best things come in plain packages. Yes, as was the case with automobiles and hood ornaments, with bicycles the fender ornaments are a nice touch.
You are right this bicycles are long lasting and heavy duty, I have this one from BSA brand. Till now in India it is sell in market and 80 to 90% people are purchased it in our country India.
Thank you for waking up the interests of so many people and taking a second look at these kind of bicycle-roadsters. I grew up seeing a lot of men riding on this bicycle. I remember them having a funny way to climb on the seat by first stepping on the bottom bracket area. Few years ago I found a Fuji frame that was long abandoned by an aunt and restored it to use, but after stumbling upon your site, I was determined to beautify it along with recently found The mister (Miyata) frame.
I remember my years of stint in Japan during the early 90's, and i was introduced to these most amazing, most durable, non maintenance, all around city japanese bikes that were all over the city. I just rode my old bikes on a daily basis ...some were given, one was found in the dumpster...for years and years with no care at all, and yet those bikes were the meanest bikes i' ve ever had in my life. Wish i'd brought 1 vintage bike back home. Fortunately, just 2 months ago I was able to buy a vintage 1981 Japanese Miyata hybrid cruiser from an FB online store that i really love. The bike sleeps inside the house because i just want to look at it everytime. lol
Jaki Natividad Yes Sir people don't realize what they have sacrificed for the sake of speed & show. I could not agree with you more. When I was growing up in the 1960s I had a single gear upright Schwinn with balloon tires, full fenders and chain guard. No special padded gloves, padded pants or fancy shoes, "just get on and go". These were the original mountain bicycles and we rode them on trails they really took a beating. I guess that's why I like these old Japanese bicycles, simple, comfortable and built-to-last. They will easily out live their original owners. Good luck with your 1981 Miyata, by the sound of it she not only sleeps inside, but I'm guessing the same bed! Lol and happy wheels.
I'm currently building a bike that has turned into a project of affection. When I started I just wanted it to be look nice but now as I am plating, refinishing and custom making each part...lol I think I'm falling in love...
Fantastic video of a beautiful machine. When I watched and listened to the relaxing music I got that pleasant tingly feeling over my scalp. Well done with the restoring.
This video is exceedingly inspirational for me!!! These people obviously felt as I do :) bless them! Hopefully when i finish I will feel as rewarded as they must have!
Excellent videos and gorgeous bicycles! They are true works of art with magnificent attention to detail, and you did such a stellar job in pointing them out. I wish I could see one in person, but until then your videos are the second best thing. Keep them coming! Thanks!
Thank you for all your help! It's much appreciated! I'll post some videos of my bike when I finish. It's going to be black, blue and copper with just a little bit of white accents. It won't be all Vintage like your beauty but it will have an old world feel of quality and beauty. I'll be spending quite a bit of time prepping, painting and plating the next few months :)
As a kid I used to see Chrome chip Forks on Schwinn bicycles in the 70s you don't see that anymore on their quality of bikes kind of strange those kind of details make a massive statement on a bike
In my hometown today, these type of bikes are hand-made from galvanized iron pipes everyday. 30 years ago, as a kid, I often see the Hercules and Fuji brand ply the road. I tried calling all our country's retailers if they have any roadsters from India or China to no avail. I guess I just have to order online for one.
@charlesnorte Hi there. Yes you are spot on. Japanese adopted bicycle specifications from the British so their early bicycle specs miiror those of Brisith bicycles. The old Raleighs are simply superb bicycles if it didn't cost so much to have one shipped to Japan I'd be restoring them!
@00dogpatch Thanks for the kind words. Wow you certainly got hooked early. Yes it is hard to find bicycles from the 40's and 50's, but you are young and if you stick to your guns you are sure to find a few. Good luck!
Though I am relatively young I absolutely agree with u about how society works...Everything I own seems to be out of date within a year or so the manufactures of the products would have me believe. Since man made it to the moon on vacum tubes and slide rules I we can make a phone that doesn't break from a 0.5m fall...
I am so pleased to have stumbled onto your videos, I have been searching the web trying to find information on my amazing bike I recently purchased that is called "The Yuhi deluxe cycle" My plan is a full restoration and would love in advice/tips you have as to acquiring the proper parts. The bike is 90% just missing..lights, generator and a couple of badges. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Love, love love your videos and love of old things!
Hi there. I share your passion for old things. TV, magazines etc., depend on advertisements to stay alive and thus the world is errouneously led around and falsely brainwashed into believing that the latest is the greatest. Not so. There was a time before the "disposable society" where things were built to last and people took care of things and made them last. I have heard of Yuhi. My email is on my blog Vintage Japanese Bicycles, feel free to drop me a line if you need help. Happy wheels!
I live in the USA so coming by vintage Japanese parts isn't that easy... After seeing your video I'm thinking that I would like to give a new home to some Japanese vintage parts on my project. Can u recommend some sources for me besides eBay? Are there some websites or vendors I could get in touch with? Thanks for your time and advice!
Today bikes are like toys. These bikes back then were built just like a car.You jump on one of the bike today at your own risk. Because the break are not trustworthy. My dad and my uncle own a bike shop in the 1970s .And I remember a Robin Hood or a PHILLIPS bicycle were like a car.
Only source is Yahoo Japan, but obviously it is in Japanese and unfortunately most sellers will not ship to USA. An alternative is Ebay UK where you can find nice vintage parts as the British made wonderful bicycles and the Japanese copied and improved upon them.
Very nice video... but good thing video spelled out the benefits in same order as your written intro, otherwise I wouldn't know that handlebar "bades" should be handlebar "badges."
I wish you had spent more time on the mechanical levering of the brakes, The mechanical brake system was used in Japan as late at 2002 and beyond, you never had to worry about a broken cable.
Indeed! Simple is best. Since the brakes use rods, there is no need to adjust for "cable stretch". Very simple, sturdy and above all practical machines.
Depends on year/model/manufacturer/condition and degree of original parts; however, prices range from $200 for a rusty old fixer-upper clunker on the low end to $3,000 or more on the high end. Hope this helps and happy wheels to you!
Like Atlas, Hero, Avon, BSA and HERCULES. But it's not a matter of poverty or whatever it is. Rather it's a matter of choices and practicality. I know most of the young buddies won't like to ride this type of bicycle. But they are most practical bicycle you can see on the road. They are very sturdy , comfortable and have a long life. I personally like them whether i m poor or rich doesn't matters to me.
@smogovatz Thank you for the praise. I'm happy that you enjoyed the video. But I am even happier that there are people like yourself that appreciate old bicycles and their craftsmanship. So many people simply follow the trend blindly lead by mass marketing. Simple truely is beautiful. Stay tuned I plan to post more videos in the near future. Thanks again for your comment, it makes the effort worthwhile.
Pierre Louis Exactly. Steel, brass and leather. Another thing I love is that comfort is built-in so don't need any special padded gloves, padded pants, etc. Just like when I was a kid, "just get on" and go. Ah, the love and joy of simplicity.
Not a nice video. Way too slow. Far too much time cut to a black screen with white lettering on it. No action at all; only stills for both bike and captions. Bike stills not on-screen long enough. Caption stills on-screen too long. Caption text Capitalised Unneccessarily. Why The Hell Did You Do That? Music is lovely classic, but very bad choice. But the worse thing was, this video kept taking the bike away to show us pictures of words. I would like to have seen the bloody bike, dammit!
Yes, 60 years ago Japan was a poor country and these bicycles were the only form of affordable private transportation. Most developing countires rely on pedal power in their early stages of growth.
Both beautiful video and classical background music.
Very enjoyable watching.
I am from India.. I have this bicycle from 2012. In India this bicycles are still popular and 80% - 90% people were bought this classic bicycle. Still now these bicycles are sell in the market in Rural areas & Villages and towns. Thank you 🙏
thank you for this glimpse of the pride of Japan bicycles...I'm motivated now to finally restore my Raleigh Tourist...

Planned obsolescence should be regarded by authorities as criminal.

Wunderschön und vortrefflich in Scene gesetzt. Danke für die stimmungsvolle Aufnahme mit einer ebensolchen Musik
@Spetet Thank you for the kind words! The people that deserve the real thanks are the Japanese craftsmen/women from the early 1950's.
Japanese bikes are great indeed, I have a vintage miyata frame that I build my commuter, what a lovely bicycle
Excellent videos and gorgeous bicycles! They are true works of art with magnificent attention to detail, and you did such a stellar job in pointing them out. I wish I could see one in person, but until then your videos are the second best thing. Keep them coming! Thanks!

Absolutely beautiful.
Wonderful. Bicycles are an extention of your personality, so look forward to your videos. Take your time, in the end it will all pay-off. Good luck.

I love the great Tange steal shape from the 80s and 90s, Panasonic, Koga miyata, Kuwahara, best Japanese quality!
THATS A BEAUTY.
Happy you enjoyed it.

Fender ornaments are wonderful. Visit my site search Vintage Japanese Bicycles and on the left side there is an album with assorted fender ornaments.

This japanese bike is very British, is similar like my Raleigh Special!
@nccng20011 Hi there. The majority of the bicycles I have found using online auctions. Hope this helps. And good luck to you.
Just like Lexus vehicles - the Japanese do pay attention to detail and quality.
The so called vintage features shown in the video in a bicycle here are all still manufactured and sold in India.
