    SOUTH LOS ANGELES - Between 1967 - 1969, the Avenues gangs led by Craig Munson on the eastside of South Los Angeles is the gang AC "Bobalouie" Moses and other eastside youth looked up too. They even claimed to be Baby Avenues even though the Munson brothers never approved of that identity. After getting completely shunned by the Avenues gang, a disappointed Raymond Washington decided to start his own gang, the Crips, in the fall of 1969 and A.C. Moses was there.

    AC Moses, aka King Bobalouie is a first generation Crip and later became a Piru member in Compton. Be sure to check out his book: bit.ly/2ntJ4EW

      He is a first generation Crip, and in 1969 and 1970 there was no beef between Piru and Crips, and your analogy is a bad one.

    I have to admit growing up in a 107 Hoover neighborhood I really wasn't familiar with the Avenues. Once in the late 70s I went to get my hair cut by the Kmart near Hollywood Park. Some older kids (a lot of them) checked me in the parking lot and asked me if I was "Family". I said, "I don't know. What's your last name"? That didn't go over too well because they thought I was being disrespectful. Honestly, word hadn't traveled back to my block yet and truthfully even then, you didn't just wander around block to block without a reason. Which is my point, You knew what your boundaries were and stayed in them. It's a sad way to live. Thankfully my kids don't have to live that way.

    • @streetgangs
      @streetgangs  7 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      Lets get that OG 107 Hoover story.

    • @kevinx9225
      @kevinx9225 7 ปีที่แล้ว +32

      I was never in the cut' so to speak. I live in Portland now. I lived around the corner from Moo Moo but he was closer to my older sisters age so I don't recall much about him except, stay out the way. I remember when his brother Andre got killed and the women of the neighborhood surrounding his mother with love. I remember having to fight for my Bret Harte band jackets 1978ish because they were black and blue. The baby Crips always wanted them. Bret Harte on 92/Hoover in the 70s was no joke. After we moved in 1980s to West Covina and Riverside the grandson of one ladies across the street became pretty big dealers. Some murders took place in the mid 90s over an FBI arrest to some of the younger guys on the street (105th/Hoover). Also, one of the grandsons she had was a prison guard and he got arrested over some stuff related to his cousins.The people I knew I remember by their real names, but there was a Pookie, June Bug, & Boo but I can't say were my friends on any level. There was guy off Figueroa/105th that always chased me with his Doberman because I live on the wrong side of Hoover. I got my ass kicked by Sammy Jones once when I was 14. He was 18. Not much of a fight. Good times. I couldn't go to Washington high because someone stuck a pistol in my chest and said I was either in the Hoovers or out. I end up going to Narbonne. I always steered clear. Good luck to those in the game but I'm 53 now and doing pretty good. Even though I know some people might have something to say.
      I appreciate the history your channel provides. Not to glorify senseless violence, but I hope people realize there are too many black men that should be alive today. The last episodes really hit home.

    • @AlexAlonso101
      @AlexAlonso101 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      what year did Andre get killed?

    • @kevinx9225
      @kevinx9225 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It was the late 70s. Maybe 1977/78. Killings happened but it was a big deal. As I recall it was on 106th/Vermont in front of the old telephone company. They only lived a few houses down. I believe he was only 16. That prompted my mother to start looking for a new area. I have a younger brother.

That movie was also based on the favelas in the early 70s and the hoods and hoodstars of that era in the Favelas/slums of Rio Dejaneiro in Brazil.

    I remember seeing the Avenues l time only: Brims was at a party in, "72" after Lil Kountry's death, (Big Country, Elgin, Curtis Ray & maybe 25 r more Brims) this party was off of Broadway in the 60's, few cars pulled up and maybe 20-30 look like Lil Men (of course I was high, so, I really thought they were midgets) came walking towards the party. I remember hearing Brotha Brim Elgin say, "BABY AVENUES," and I thought they looked to old to be banging. Nothing happened, they strolled around the party, then left. Everybody was on pins & needles.

On a lot of these videos I pull up Google street maps (probably a lot safer that way, huh?) to see what these places (meetings, death scenes-like Ray Washington at San Pedro &E 64th) look like today.The first thing I see at 77th & Broadway NOW is a police station! Fittingly it might seem. It seems to take up the entire block, and it still probably needs to expand, ha ha.

      @AlexAlonso101 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      war stories? people getting beat up, shot and killed is basically better than hearing "I am trying to move away from the BS"? Some of y'all sick.

    • @AlexAlonso101
      @AlexAlonso101 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      so its better to hear about how a bunch of teenagers were admiring a gang that disowned them, how they were false claiming it, and then started there own thing when they were 15 years old. Knowledge, right?

    • @C-Lyfe85
      @C-Lyfe85 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Alex A. Alonso
      Yea, that's right, knowledge.
      Hearing these OG's war stories is no different from watching the history channel do an episode about World War II.
      If you don't know your history you're doomed to repeat it.
      Black people problem is they forget they own history & make the same mistakes.
      Listening to the OG's stories can keep people from gangbanging.
      Especially when you hear that two Waring gangs like Crips/Bloods kinda originated from each other & have more in common than not.
      Which is why the gang war is unnecessary.
      Young dudes don't really have the foresight that the OG's do.
      But last thing +Alex A. Alonso if you don't value interviews from Old heads why did you interview King Bobalouie.
      You should have told him that to his face.
      Or did you reach out to King Bobalouie solely for the purpose of competing with +Kev Mac who interviewed him first, before you did.

      @Know2Much_ ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Both, but they couldn’t tell him that he couldn’t denounce his crip affiliation basically because he was part of the foundation of the crips. He lived on piru street and became close to them before the war kicked off but when the carver park crips jumped him his cousin and he confronted them the next day and they jumped him also because they didn’t know who he was, he came back with all the pirus the next day and That’s when the big confrontation happened with Raymond and the crips. But the pirus were a family they wasn’t crip or blood ac was the only crip that lived on piru street and the was the first crip in history to flip from crip to strictly piru and he paved the way for the origins of that entire red side
