Was introduced to Terry’s music in the early 70s talk about timeless saw him play live at the Earl of old town on wells street in Chicago on a show along with Oscar Brown jr. what a time what a place what a show!!
I met Terry Callier outside the Jazz Cafe about 8 years ago , such a kind , gentle and humble man. We discussed music , Bob Womack and other music luminaries . This song epitomises what an amazing talent TC was.
Heard this song on the radio today at work. Been humming that tune til I got out and looked up the videos. Love the song. The groove, lyrics, his voice! Beautiful song.
Such a pity, Terry Callier disappeared from our orbits. I play and sing C'est la Vie and Paris Blues myself. TC knew how to string chords like no other. Here it is extremely simple, for jamming purposes: Fmaj7, Em7, break: Am, G, F, E7sus, and still it sounds good.
And for my opening line I'm not trying to indicate my state of mind. I turn you on, I tell you that I'm laughing just to keep from crying Pretty music when you hear it, Keep on trying to get near it. A little rhythm for your spirit Oh but that's what it's for Come on in, here's the door And I've seen a sparrow get high And waste his time in the sky He thinks it's easy to fly He's just a little bit freer than I Now here's a mystery And maybe you can help to make it clear to me When you're fast asleep Then what is it that's lighting up the dreams you see Only your tears can't conceal it And only your prayers may not reveal it You've got soul so you can feel it And when you make the scene Well you know what I mean Hey, I've seen a sparrow get…
His son is my godfather. He was surely a beautiful soul. He used to watch me as a child. Love that man. So happy to hear he was such an influence for you!
I know I'm a little bit late, but believe me when I tell you he does. "Timepeace" has some really good music, "What Color is Love?" and "Occasional Rain" are some of his best work too. As a last recommendation I would say "Lookin' Out". There's some other really good albums, I'd say listening to all his stuff is the right decision
@@drewpeacock9347 Theres good jazz out there, I view it like country where I'm not a big fan of it plain but when blended into another genre it kills it. Check out Pieces of a Man by Gil Scott-Heron, fantastic unpretentious Jazz Blues album.
Like any genre, there’s a lot of pulp. “Starbucks jazz” I’ll often call it. Might as well be elevator music. And of course, the “took way too much acid jazz”. I honestly can’t think of a single genre I’m into that doesn’t include tons of awful music that you have to sift through. There’s gold in them hills, but there’s even more dirt.

genius, this track is pure class in all aspects.
And for my opening line
I'm not trying to indicate my state of mind.
I turn you on,
I tell you that I'm laughing just to keep from crying
Pretty music when you hear it,
Keep on trying to get near it.
A little rhythm for your spirit
Oh but that's what it's for
Come on in, here's the door
And I've seen a sparrow get high
And waste his time in the sky
He thinks it's easy to fly
He's just a little bit freer than I
Now here's a mystery
And maybe you can help to make it clear to me
When you're fast asleep
Then what is it that's lighting up the dreams you see
Only your tears can't conceal it
And only your prayers may not reveal it
You've got soul so you can feel it
And when you make the scene
Well you know what I mean
Hey, I've seen a sparrow get…
just so beautiful - what a guy. Proof if needed that there is no justice in the world..
I’m gonna cry everything’s just so beautiful

TC, super special man

Jerry Butler did the orginal and never really got the credit for the song

Butler version I prefer.
مع الموسيقى تصبح حياتي سيئة و هي في الواقع سيئة جداً
I thought about this long and hard and jazz is really shite
you might need to think a lil longer..
