  • Another bunch of snow! 4 feet in 12 days, 32 in last week. Grader plowing banks and widening roads after storms. Applied some different camera positions and preserved more grader sounds and audio as requested.

    Very thoughtful of the homeowner at the end having homemade cookies hand delivered to you & your passing machine. Definitely hit the spot with the possible growlies. There making sure you have enough energy to carry on ,if you like peanut butter should carry a couple of jars stock of it in your cab just to hold off the growlies in the tummy until you get home where the wife has made either breakfast lunch and supper for a hard working husband.

    Hello from AlmostHomeRanch. I just wanted to say that you are doing a great service for your community! I love your camera work and the views from your grader. That wing is pretty amazing and I thought long and hard and almost got a grader. I still would like to get one if there was something affordable. At any rate, here's a shout out from another snow plow operator in the PNW. Keep up the great work! People appreciate it!

    Great vid. Thanks. I live in Alaska have pushed show with shovels, atv's, plowtrucks, dozers and loaders but i have never ran a grader before. It look like the Swiss army knife for dirt and snow. I grade dirt roads with a dozer and a few guys said wow what a good job I only can imagine what you could do with a grader. Now i have a grader on my wish list. @17:06 did that lady give you snacks? If so that's awesome "thank you lady". I feel like up here no 1 ever gives luv to the plow guys. Ive had a grader operator pull me out of a ditch a few times great guys working all night and day. I'm always to busy pushing snow my self. Some day i want to buy many pizza's and drinks drive around and hand out snacks to the poor plow guys. #the plow guys needs to eat.

      Yes! It was a plate of homemade cookies that I love, however, I am on a very low carb carnivore diet so I only ate one and then felt a little guilty but I am over it! I like your Swiss army knife analogy. I think it is the most versatile snow machine for several reasons. I would still like a blower also because sometimes when you lack the space to push it that's the answer and a loader with the bucket to pick up piles and move them is sometimes called for. I modified my front plow to be able to deal with the piles and move them further off by pushing on an angle with the grader articulated some. Last year was the only year I had to have a loader help move some banks. Thanks for watching and your input.

    Stumbled across your channel a couple weeks back, now subscribed. Love hearing the sounds of the equipment as well. These snowplowing videos are oddly soothing.
    I plow with a 40hp, 4WD, enclosed cab, Kubota rubber tire tractor. It has a “qwik-attach” front end loader. I remove it, and attach a sub-frame frame with the ability to accommodate a blade, that I can readily swap off for a front mount snowblower powered by the mid-PTO. I have to keep about 2-miles of private road open out to the county road.
    I so look forward to plowing…, I know that sounds crazy, but is cheap mental “therapy” (hahaha..,!).
    Great video(s),
    Thank you sir.

      You can't see it from the camera but I had my led safety light flashing on top of the cab and these are private roads that are handled a little differently than public roads although these are not gated which make them "Quasi-public" and safety is always a concern. The flashers would add to the visibility and I should consider it.

Beauty as always is in the eye of the beholder and your loved jd grader is the center piece of this very beautiful area, Do you cut grass in the summer time & someone could invent a Grader with the belly mower and quick attach to the circle Yes ? • @watchthe1369
    @watchthe1369 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Interesting. I was just thinking that if you put you wing blade up higher and swung it further out, you might actually get some of that top accumulation gone for a true shelf. That top snow would actually be pushed far enough to go out and over the back slope of the pile and be gone. Maybe use the road blade to scrape up ice to the center of the road as a counterbalance.

    • @AnthonyHutson-ej5pk
      @AnthonyHutson-ej5pk  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Part of how the wing is designed is the steep angle. Even at that I have had the front of the grader flung around into the bank when I hit a hard area at speed. Less angle would increase the chance of that. Everything you say is physically true. Maybe a little more length on the wing at the same angle. There is a limit to how high it will raise also. Many of my videos have me using it at top height, about 4 and a half feet at the front and 5 to 6 feet t the rear. It has to be fairly flat or because it is cable it either won't cut or digs in. Thanks.

    With that kind of Snow you should invest in an AWD Grader plus a Vplow PLUS a Wing that you can extend out in order to widen better !

    • @AnthonyHutson-ej5pk
      @AnthonyHutson-ej5pk  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you. I have a V-plow but I try to get to the drifts early and stay with them to not use it as then I have to go back to the shop to get the front plow to push the ends and cul-de-sacs when I get through. I would love an AWD and a little newer grader. I have the snow and terrain to justify it just not the money or income. an extendable wing is interesting. I don't know if I have ever seen one. Thanks.

    I at one time did this same thing, in Ont Canada , push the banks back, did so for 2 yrs . 1972-74 , Champion grader . My set up was a little diff I did not have a front plow , but a bull blade 4’ high, width of the machine used to punch out turn arounds . Post mounted wing & push rods , cable lift . Wing 12’Long I think it was , pushed the banks back 8-10’ & did so at FULL throttle, roll that snow .
    I was wondering why you did not make a turn around place , so you could move the snow to the down wind side ? instead of backing up ? Totally remove the snow on the up wind side so it keeps the road wind swept !
    Our plow trucks pretty much kept the roads open.
    Is your plow reversible so you can roll to the left ?
    If I were to ever use a grader again to plow I would want a reversible plow to either push left or right depending on wind direction & terrain .
    Those Walther Snow fighters are amazing, a V with wings on both sides of the truck

    • @AnthonyHutson-ej5pk
      @AnthonyHutson-ej5pk  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Usually backing to use the wing on the right or setting up for the wing when I come back on it. My front plow is reversible. The snow never blows across our roads as they are often cut in the sidehill with a high dirt bank to start with and the wind almost always blows down those hills so they fill in at that cut and there is not enough room for all the snow we get on the down wind side. So, there is plenty of reasons on both sides of the road that catch snow and won't let it blow across. I find by pushing that bank up on the windward sidehill it catches some of the snow before it gets to the road on that bank and allows me time to get back to it and open the road moving it across to the other side in most cases, but then that bank on the downwind side catches snow too.

    Question: Why not have the front plow down as well? The video from 3:45 to 7:40 looks like just the grading blade

    • @AnthonyHutson-ej5pk
      @AnthonyHutson-ej5pk  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Sometimes I do to sort of pre-plow so the main blade doesn't have to carry as much. Sometimes I just use the front plow or just the main blade when its heavy especially on steep hills, but that was not the case here, because I just can't push all of it with the resistance of both plows on the road and the snow load. The main blade is 14 feet and the front plow 11 so it will often load the main blade anyway even with the front plow pre-cleaning in heavy snow. I am not sure why in this case, however, later in the video I believe I was engaging the wing with the main blade around a curve and it becomes less an issue and a lot to manage control wise especially adding a third blade to the mix although I have done some of that in some situations. Thanks!

Not enough to really make any money, mostly cover expenses especially considering I basically give up six months of my life every winter as there is no backup and I can't ever really get too far away because events happen all the time and even when it is not snowing actively I am pushing and widening in between as well as all the maintenance I do myself.

That particular one was not well marked with a higher pole because it was protected by trees but he went into the trees to get it. I keep them well marked and know where they are. • @AnthonyHutson-ej5pk

      Not on the snow blades as I have shoes on the moldboard and toe of the wing to leave a little on the road to preserve gravel and for snow machine travel, which takes away much of the abrasiveness. On the moldboard during spring grading due to the hardness from the mag-water and that I don't have a water truck so moisture is not always optimal, I end up with a frown in the center by the end since with the narrow roads and pulling gravel back to the center it washes under the center of the board regardless of which way I am angled. So yes, at least one a year. I have also started squaring them with a torch at that point to get everything out of them and be able to grade effectively.
