- Welcome to Video 1 in the Ducati Panigale Engine Swap series, in this first video I remove the bodywork and fuel tank from the bike
This project is to take a 1199R engine, swingarm mounts and adjustment hardware and retrofit them into a Ducati Panigale 1199S Trackbike to make it more suited to the track
Why??
The 1199R engine is more reliable at high revs due to he titanium conrods as standard and the swingarm adjustment allows me to alter the bike set-up further still to improve handling

Awesome 💪💪💪
Thank you! Cheers!
Great video, I really like the ducati and find someone who does work on them and who shares it is difficult, congratulations
HI Antonio, Thanks, glad to have you watching as well 👍😎
Thank you!!
You're welcome! 😊
Hi can you let me know what size fly wheel puller, would it be. A 50mm or the 55mm I would need for the 2024 Ducati street fight v4 s many thanks John
2 questions ... would u know if a 1299cc engine can fit in an 1199 frame? & what would happen to d milage reading on d new engine?
Yes a 1299 engine will fit the frame as they are the same stud position on the heads, the mileage is within the ECU and Dash so would not reset with the engine unless you had the original ECU and Dash for the 1299
Mate I have a question for you I would like to know if you encountered this or even heard of this. I have a 1199R that is losing coolant and my engine oil is rising up. Is it possible to do a pressure test at the hose from the reservoir? I don’t want to take everything apart. Thanks mate I appreciate your input👍
Sounds like your head gasket might have failed on one of the cylinders, is the oil starting to look off colour or milky?
What size Allen wrench did you use? Also, would it be a problem to remove only the mid fairings! I have to replace a gear change lever later this week and am wondering would I need to remove upper and mid fairings.
Great video and thanks!
The allen keys are either size 3 or 4 depending on the bolt, they mixed the sizes across the panels
You can take off any panel you want without removing others but you may need to loosen the lower and upper to allow you to remove them without damaging them.
Looking forward to this series! When is the next installment coming out? :)
On their way this week Peter :)
In my experience, leaving the front wheel attached results in a nice expensive wheel barrow making the entire front end easy to remove and ‘wheel around’.
Also, what’s to be gained going with a 2013R engine over the S? Are the Ti Connecting rods going to be of benefit or was this engine just too good a deal to pass up?
Hi Rob,
The aim is for improved reliability as its a track only bike, the engine was cheaper than a set of conrods so hence this approach :)
DesmoWerx cheaper than a set of connecting rods?!?! I don’t know if that screams market opportunity for connecting rods or you got a smoking deal on the engine! Sounds like a fun project.
@@robevans3980 , a new set are £2500 and the engine was less :)
Second hand sets come up every now and then but values vary and the engine rebuild kit, bearing etc means that even then the costs stack up against a cheap complete engine.
