Your right, it doesn’t pay to keep up with the Jones’s. I know what I signed up for when I buy my German cars and I’m willing to put in the work to maintain them. However if I recommend someone a car it’s going to be ford focus/Toyota Corolla/Honda Civic because at the end of the day people just need to get from point A to B and will either not have the knowledge or the willingness to maintain something more then your basic car.

That's basically it. All in one guide for pros and noobs. Totally agree on the oil interval change, spot on. We got here a guy ages ago made the news lines and newspapers hitting a 1 million kilometers on an old Zastava 750 and once they asked him how did he do it, that's not possible?! He said he loves his car a lot, dedicated lot of hours in regular maintenance and oil change every 1000 kilometers! That says it all.

2 leaks you don't want to be panicking about:
    1. Tail pipe leaking water (water is natural by-product of combustion and dripping water is normal)
    2. Water from the air conditioning unit (water condenses there and creates small puddle of water after normal driving; nothing to worry about)
Just so you don't worry and potentially get played by a not-so-scrupulous mechanic. Pick a garage that has a lot of customers, because they're more likely dealing with enough real problems; or very good reputation to build on.

I drive old beaters, and always use premium ethanol free gasoline on the grounds that if ethanol gums up the carborator on my snow thrower, chain saws, and lawn mowers, than I don't want to run even my old clunkers on ethanoled gasoline, though when filling the jerry cans I always fill the vehicle first so as to clear any ethanol lower octane gasoline left in the pump hoses from the previous customer, it seems best practice to me to always use the best fuel and oil that you can for your engines.

Time factor is also important for proper oil change intervals. 6 months for mostly city driven vehicles is recommended by many makes.

A good tip for people changing their own oil is to use a ring cut from gasket paper, as well as a new oil sump drain bolt washer, so that if the sump is accidentally overfilled, some oil can slowly be allowed to drain out again by slightly slackening off the bolt, then retightening without the risk of constant dripping from the previously tightened crush washer.

I'd recommend 5K -7K max on turbo charged vehicles? 10K -15 is asking for serious engine wear. Remember, brand new engine's actually use oil at first, nobody seems to realize this fact? The most critical oil change is when an engine is brand new. I always change the oil on my new vehicles at between 500 and 700 miles? It gets all the break-in metal out of your engine after initial break-in? When have you heard this out of anyone's mouth, in the last 20 years? My engine's look brand new inside them at 60K? No sludge ever? If you go to 10K or 15K oil change intervals, you will drastically lessen the life of your engine, just like the dealership wants?

Yes! Driving the Porsche around, now. You have touched upon extended vehicle warranties, on your channel. Anyone in the right mind needs to take out the extended warranty, after reviewing its coverage. Especially on the BMW, Mercedes and Porsche brands. I could give a long story regarding a recent visit to the dealership on my Porsche. Essentially, the warranty covered $30,000 worth of things, with very little cost to me. But I bought it for a price point where I could sell it for parts if I needed to and recover my money.

Did I mention that I bought a BMW X3 30d 2011 with 246,000 km 6-7 weeks ago? Anyway in this car (full service history) engine oil has been changed regularly (!) at almost exactly every 30,000 km! Will the engine last for another 150,000 km/100,000 miles?
When you live in cold climate a couple of months each year, and you drive a diesel car, you have to have an electric heater, and preheat the engine, because...
It is not very good to idle a modern diesel engine with EGR and DPF! After "a while" the EGR system and intake manifold is clogged up... At idling a diesel engine will never get up to normal driving temperature.
As European I'm surprised that you have 91 oktan! In Europe 95 is minimum and 98 is also quite common, and 99-100 common only in some countries.
    95 is also called E10 (10 % ethanol), and 98 is E5.
In Sweden diesel has had 30 % bio diesel mixed in it.
A few people make their own diesel, but I don't know in how new cars/vehicles they can or want to use it.

    • @michesbianan
      @michesbianan ปีที่แล้ว

If you hear knock in modern vehicles, stop driving. Knock sensors detect light knock way before you can hear it and will retard ignition timing. This not only can lower mpg but due to knock but also run hotter.
Your comments on ethanol (alcohol) is in error. BMW and Mini Cooper have approved up to E25 for years. The ethanol limit with modern vehicles is primarily due to EPA and that there is no approved certification fuel. The biggest concern related to seals, hoses and gaskets, and even plastics is the exposure to varying levels of aromatics. Significantly more variation in premium fuel than regular. I personally have 270,000 miles on my 2015 F150 with the 2.7L (non-FFV's). My truck has been fueled roughly 95% of the time on E30.

ECPP: Since you’re using a MB, do a video on Mercedes that are today rust buckets. My sister in law has a 2011 e350. when the car was only 5 years old the dealer advised her the subframe is rusting and has holes in in it and costs $7,000. she felt she being scammed by Mercedes for business and interjected, well aren’t Mercedes well built using the best materials. 12 years later she’s at the dealership again for expensive electrical repairs and the dealer again says the subframe is really bad and dangerous to drive. Mercedes said they will now pay for the repair. obviously MB is afraid of bad press. I advise any owner of MB to check or avoid any MB built after 2010.
