Would it be worth investing into rebuilding or replacing my 1991 Toyota Celica's engine? or to use that money into another beater and try to not get ripped off for the car? I dont have much money, no job, as i plan on doing workstudy, i will be getting money refunded from FAFSA and from scholarships but of course that is once school starts. as of now the car does not run and has very low compression.
I would hit up every local junkyard. I’m assuming you’ll get back atleast ~$1400 from FAFSA. A used engine should run you no more than $500 for a used Celica engine. Maybe another $600 for labor. That leaves you $300 for used tires and a basic tune up. If you play your cards perfectly, you could maybe even have some money left over to buy lunch. This is just a thought, not advice
What @claude6541 said sounds great if possible, but I personally haven't seen pricing like that. Another consideration is that 1991 is a very old car. You're gonna have other things going wrong with it and parts that are harder and harder to find. You still have several weeks before schools starts. If u can go find a job paying $15/hr for 7-8 weeks, with ur refund, you could save $6-7k for a car before workstudy starts. Lots of jobs pay $15/hr now like stockers at walmart and target.
Toyota and Hondas are my car of choice. I always was curious about rebuilt titles. 👍
Thanks for this great information. ❤
You're welcome! Glad you found it helpful.

Always check trunk and spare tire area for damage or rust or water line caused by a flood
