Collecting, listening to music is not a hobby, it's a lifestyle!
You gotta go with what works for you... For me, music is a lifestyle (a big part of my life), but searching for various pressings, etc., is the hobby. If all my records disappeared, I would still have the music (just stream it, or something). I fully appreciate others see things differently, and I think that's great. Our differences make us more interesting.
Some people can’t afford expensive record players. I couldn’t nowadays. Luckily I have my old Yamaha from the 80’s still. People get too jacked up over all that stuff. Just put on the damn record and enjoy it on whatever you can afford.
For me, apart from the collecting and listening the coolest thing is just hanging out at my regular record stores and chatting to the staff (paid enthusiasts) and other collector's
For me it's a hobby but that's just me.
It's an addiction! And I have it!
Hey Frank! My Daughter has recently gotten into record collecting and in turn gotten ME into it. Needless to say we are new to the channel but loving every minute of watching your videos and all of the info and entertainment they provide! Thanks so much!
Nice! Welcome to the channel.
Just follow your heart when it comes to music, your channel, everything 🤘 it would be good to have a beer with you Frank, you never know
Good advice! And if there is ever a chance, I would gladly hoist a pint or 2 with ya!
The Golden Girls is one of my all-time favourite shows! Agree with your comment about us record fans, for example I don’t necessarily have the same music taste as yourself but that doesn’t stop me from really enjoying your videos every week. Plus I learn about other genres of music and it’s always good to try to broaden your tastes a little from time to time ! Cheers Frank ! 👍🙏
I started collecting records in 1969 with an all in one player, which I moved onto a separate system
I appreciate that you call it as you see it Frank. Only suckers and cults won't question things and sharing issues you see helps others avoid them or speak up against them as well.
I'd love to hear a list of your top five concerts you've attended sometime!
Great video, Frank! First of all, I love the term “Frugophile”. I think that would be a great T-shirt. I would put myself in that category as I've spent a fraction of what most true audiophiles have spent on their systems but, I enjoy tweaking, and adjusting what I have to make it sound optimal.
As for the Crosley conversation, many years ago I had a few hundred records. The introduction of CDs took me in a new direction and my records were donated to Goodwill. Three or so years ago my wife and son bought a suitcase type player and an Amy Winehouse album. Listening to about 15 minutes of that record reminded me of the depth that you can get from vinyl and rekindled my love for the hobby.
Thanks for including everyone who loves music, no matter what they listen to or how they listen.
My Dad bought me an all in one player in August ‘23 and recognise that it isn’t the best player but I have done things to make it as good as it can be. I have attached some Harmon kardon speakers, changed the stylus to a diamond tip and placed a stick on weight on the back of the tone arm. I also keep my records clean and store them correctly. As an entry level player, it’s done the job and will always have a sentimental value. I plan to buy an audio technica later this year when I’ve saved the cash to do so …
we all grew up drooling over the sears catalog all in ones by Emerson, Fischer, Pioneer, Marantz, etc. we suffered until our 1st jobs to move up to technics and seperate components...right?
still happy with my Polk monitor 12's, goin on like 30 something years now
Oh man... I remember getting a job at McDonald's as a teen in the late 80s... first thing I did was finance a Fender Stratocaster. Second thing I did was invest in a new technology called the CD player... good times!
It must be nice to have enough money where you' have an expensive system right off the but unfortunately most of us didn't have that luxury.
@@Extremesam43 made it worth so much more to earn it
I would have to agree Frank, I have slowed down buying vinyl.. but all these new pressings of old stuff... I just cant resist!! I am also definitely a fruga-phile. I buy what I can afford and truly believe I wouldnt recognize top end audiophile sound, if it ran me over in a bus ha ha !! Just finished watching "The last dance" - the story of Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls. A truely awesome talent and professional sportsman. Keep on spinnin !!
100% There are so many 30th anniversary boxes of incredible 90s content that is really hard to get on original. And of course all the 50th anniversary of the more classic stuff like pink Floyd. It’s really hard not to get sucked up in the special releases
Only issue is the sound is not as good as the original ones. @@SpyderTracks
I remember Pooh Bah’s in Pasadena in the 90s selling boxed classical and operas for a dollar in pristine condition. There was 50 cent bin where Kenny Loggins is a regular.
I’m totally with you brother! I also have two daughters 12 and 17, and can only afford so much in the way of audio equipment. No matter what hobby you find yourself in there are always the insufferable deuche canoes 🛶 that make people feel insecure about how much they spend on equipment. We all fell in love with bands back in the day on vastly sub-par equipment, I remember falling in love with Boston and Led Zeppelin while mowing lawn over a horrible cassette walkman and nobody could argue that was a pristine experience. Many of us collect vinyl for different reasons than just audio quality. Don’t get me wrong I love a well pressed vinyl as much as the next collector, but for me vinyl brings back a flood of memories. Laying in the floors Saturday mornings listening to records while playing with legos, my grandfather putting on albums at Christmas, or my sister gushing about her Cher collection. Vinyl isn’t just about audio quality, it also represents personal bridges to our past. Play your vinyl on whatever you want, from a cross let to a high end turntable……it doesn’t matter and nobody should judge. If you and your kids enjoy gathering around a bargain turntable and listening to Walmart records, AWESOME! Everyone needs to remember that their vinyl collections won’t mourn them when their dead, but their family will. Much love brother, keep keeping it real!
Great video man! I often say the same thing regarding the all in one, starter players - Crosley etc. I kind of despise when people talk badly about them and make people who might have one, feel like they are doing something wrong. It is my view that if this is something that gets someone into record collecting and discovering the wonder in records, I think it is absolutely perfect. Yes, they are not good players, but as you said they serve a purpose, and I honestly thing it is quite a noble purpose. I think that if the younger generation doesn't discover the joy of collecting records, and the excitement of discovering music through crate digging, once we are all dead, all of our records will end up in a landfill, lost to time. I think that would be a very bad thing.
Good answer Frank.. Family comes first.... You are a good dad!!! Cheerz...
I had a great crosley with the wooden body, then I tried to change the belt and broke it, I used to have a Fisher Price that I played 45's on that sounded great and it made playing them easier and more fun
I agree with your sentiment at 3:53 exactly. You and I don't have much in the way of "crossover" as far as our collections are concerned, but I dig your show and look forward to each new episode!
Thanks!
I'm in my late 50s, and our 70s Crosleys was mono record 'players.' One I remember having at around 10 years old was a small Panasonic that I played my 45s on. I loved that player. Without that experience, I probably wouldn't have gotten into the 'stereo' of it all in my teen years and beyond.
I think the older Crossley were made better, and not till the last 10 years when they started making them in all these travel things that they take a turn for the worst
The all in one suitcase record player is what we had in the 50s and 60s. We could play 78s 45s 33 1/3. There were carry cases for the 45s, which the rich kids would have full of records. Instant party when someone brought one to listen to records after school.
I’ve been revisiting Night Court. Love that stuff!!
Frank, this is SO ABSURD! I have a budget CROSLEY. And it has NOT ruined any of my records! My favorite is when the critics say I will notice the difference if I ever upgrade. And I respond: "Well, if I'm content with this budget turntable, then it really doesn't matter, DOES IT?!"
I think those tales of Crosleys destroying records have been greatly exaggerated. It would take many, many spins to destroy a record. You gotta go with what you like, and it's no one else's business.
Right on same here .
@@Channel33RPM Sure! It's not the greatest thing ever. But I didn't expect it to be. I rely mostly on CDs. And every now and then I like to do it the old fashioned way. And even then, the ones I have are used records from the thrift shop. 🏮
@@Jermeister12 Personally, I think people just need to create problems where they don't exist. It reminds me of a friend I had who had a MERCEDES that was draining his pockets. He told me he needed to impress clients. And I told him, "I have a used DODGE SHADOW ; I paid cash; and I have no financial concerns. What's wrong with this picture?" .
@@Channel33RPM my friends daughter has a Crossley Turntable/all in one and she has a bunch of Taylor Swift records that she plays all the time and I had mentioned to him that if you overlay the record it may or may not destroy it. So I don’t know what he did, but he said she kind of slowed down and hasn’t been playing them as much because of that, I kind of feel bad for mentioning to him but I would rather that then I have to buy you know to hold onto her records for the longer period of time versus have to buy new ones in a year and a half because she overplayed them
Frank I need more than 2 videos a week Ive been collecting for a year now and your my favorite vinyl channel but I’ve watched All your old videos some 3 times lol please more videos
Wow - thank you, I appreciate that. Welcome to the world of vinyl. Stay tuned, because I have some fun stuff coming up.
Frank
On the topic of all in ones:
I have my serious stereo in my den, where I keep all my truly valuable records (along with my first edition, leather-bound books on mahogany shelves, of course)
But I also have a thing for cheap, questionable records I find at Value Village, or for that matter, the dump…
So I got myself a little Victrola at Walmart. It’s perfect for those scratchy old ragtime collections or whatever K-Tel masterpiece I’ve managed to unearth.
People like to complain. I love your channel for your positivity. I've been watching for years!
Thanks!
One of my favorite TV shows is the Red Green Show, I haven't seen it for a little while though.
My friend got a Crosley-tier all-in-one player from his parents. I didn't want to bring him down, he got excited, so I thought, he's gonna learn through experience. I told him what I like, what replacement stylus he would need once this wears off.
Let's focus on appreciation instead of gatekeeping.
Hi Frank .
I own a Crosley😀 I love it 😀
It was what I could afford .
I have a lot of old records .I'm into Metal /prog rock /blues.
Crossly likes old records .I think the sound is good enough for me .
If a records sound needs help I hook up my computer speakers up 2 it.
Keep doing a good job.
Good for you man! Rock on!
Most of my music is new releases or represses on vinyl like say Britney Spears got her whole catalog pressed on vinyl for the first time
Totally agree with all your comments. Particularly about the suitcase players. The first record player I had in the late 70's was probably worse than the modern equivalent; and that is exactly how I got into collecting vinyl.
It doesn't matter what equipment we have even if it's a £2000 set up there's always someone who thinks it's s*** unless you spend that on just an interconnect. Yeh yeh.
Cheers Frank, if I see you in the UK I'll pop over and say hi 🤣
Find a record store with a $1 bin and a $5 bin buy you some vinyl get a Crosley and enjoy yourself.
hey frank..thru all the questions and answers, the number one thing that crossed my mind was the fact that i'm older than the college on your hoodie..time flies by...
best to the family..stay well..peace always..rocky
All the best, Rocky.
1969 I got out of the U.S. Army. I went to K-mart and purchased a box(turntable), but it had no speakers. Went to K-mart again and found small speakers & wired them on. It worked out GREAT!
The sound was so good I was offered money for it.
I just finished knight rider
Funny you mention this. I recently bought the complete series on DVD and look forward to watching it. This was one of my favorite shows as a kid.
Mine too
golden girls! I have the collection on dvd and still watch them every night on Hallmark
It was a great series... it seemed to lose some its steam near the end, but nonetheless, it was always entertaining.
My daughter started with a Crosley, and no, it wasn’t the best. But it did kick start her passion, and she now has a Fluance RT80 with a pair of Edifier speakers, and will upgrade to separate amp and speakers when she moves in to her new place. Not everyone has the budget and space for better, but bashing what they’ve got will only discourage them. And Crosleys don’t damage your records anywhere near as much as is claimed!
As you can see from my screen name, we may have a little something in common when it comes to our audio gear purchases. Not only do I like inexpensive gear. I am also all about a good deal on higher end equipment.
Best band ever on display on your record shelf, Bad News!
I like the shelves you have your dvds on. where did you get them?
Thanks! They arr from IKEA, but have been discontinued. You can still find them used pretty easily... just search for IKEA CD shelves (or DVD shelves... they are the same)
Regarding TV shows I am currently watching Masters of the air on Apple TV I highly recommend this.😊😊
Hi Frank, I have been quietly watching and enjoying your videos for some time now.
You really made me laugh out load this time saying your wife and you enjoyed watching The Golden Girls.
Because so do my wife and I and we still laugh out loud, made me feel we have so much in common.😊
Haha, glad you dug the video... and YES to the Golden Girls!
I've been a hifi nut and dj for 30 years I recently got a Crosley and it's def not my 1200s, but I love the headphone output of the Crosley and if I hook it up to my Peavy pa wow there's lots of bass and highs and actual detail. But the all in one is nice too for very quiet listening.
Great vid Frank. Totally agree with you on those first question. Great stuff my friend!
speaker upgrade suggestion?...Klipsch !
Wharfedale Diamond 12.1
I started on a all in one Lancaster
I now keep it up north.
I got it to see which format I liked best. I also got it because the store I worked at started selling them. I know have a LP120BTUSB. Got it first record store day.
Also on a side note my dad and mother let me have their records which is awesome too me !
Hey Frank! I’m with you on the negatives of the VC…most people are nice, but there are a select group that are overly offended on the beginner turntables and the younger generation’s music choice. And I also agree that the greatest positive we all share is that common bond of loving music and collecting records. I’m a fan of crown too, so in real life, I feel like we would def get along!
My wife and I end each night with watching an old show. We are currently watching Taxi. We previously did The Office, The Sopranos, Mad About You, Scrubs, Cougar Town, and i'm sure a couple more that I'm missing.
Audiophile defined is a word that means "One who will willingly spend far too much for a preamp that looks good but doesn't support its price with continued value over time."
Collecting records and enjoying music is something to do for those who enjoy doing it. I enjoy Jethro Tull, I have all their albums on CD, I am in the process of collecting all their titles on vinyl. Alongside that, I am also collecting the remix box sets of their specific albums for the included 5.1 mixes. Why, because I can't get enough of Tull's music.
Another aspect of record collecting is finding a good copy of an artists first album from 1968, is like a sports fan getting a baseball signed by Lou Gerhrig or Babe Ruth. It holds a meaning for this person.
we bought our 11yr old son a Crosley suitcase hooked them up to a pair of Bose powered speakers we had in the attic, put a diamond stylus on it and I have to tell you it doesn't sound half bad at all, to be honest. certainly better than those crappy ones we used to get when we were his age during the late 70's and early 80's. Kids have it good now LOL but yeah he loves it, he likes to go the record store I think it's awesome.
Thank you for being a friend Frank! :P
I had a Crowley and I returned records because they skipped on the player. Turns out it was the record player and the records were fine
Nice hoodie, shoutout to NAIT in Edmonton.
Absolutely! I used to work there, in the Marketing and Communications Department.
I have a Pioneer DJ CRSS 12 turntables. They can be analog or digital! It is quite an awesome feature to have. But hey, crossley is okay if I don’t feel like lugging out the big boys! It’s about the experience not the player…. ;) IMO lol anyways thanks for all the content!
Thanks for answering my question Frank! So true on those “trigger” topics ✌🏻
OK! I agree. The Evil series is fantastic. I'm back in!
Great video Frank! I agree with your take on Crosley and all in one players. Great gateway product. As for classic tv shows, a couple of years ago I watched the entire series of All In The Family. 50+ years later, still relevant.
All In the Family... another show I need to re-watch.
In the beginning of my Technics manuals they address me as "Dear Stereo Fan". I prefer that
Stereo Fan... I like that too.
Hey Frank -- Some solid TV recommendations from me...
1. 'From' (MGM+) -- It's kinda like a horror version of 'Lost.' Two seasons (so far), but S3 is supposed to land this summer.
2. 'Yellowstone' -- Wife and I are currently binging it. Getting the seasons on DVD from the library, so $0 cost.
3. 'Veronica Mars' -- One of my favorite series of all time. Kristen Bell and rest of the cast are so good. Really fun, well-crafted show.
Thanks for the recommendations! I am all caught up on From - and I look forward to the new seasons. That show it well written and well acted. People keep telling me to check out Yellowstone, so I think I will (I think it's also on Paramount+?). I am not familiar with Veronica Mars, but I will look it up . Cheers!
Love hearing the questions from other viewers and the variety. Always appreciate your take on things. Would love to have a beer with you some day. A friend brought me a growler of Henderson Brewing Rush Canadian Golden Ale back from Toronto. Good stuff. Enjoyed your video review of their beers. Music is life and helps get through life. Love collecting and just enjoying the tunes. Rock On!
Quick question, how often do you change your stylus? I am still on my original from when I bought my turntable. While it may not have seen as many hours as some or most, it has seen years. Audio Technica AT-LP120XUSB direct drive turntable. Base model cartridge and stylus.
Great episode Frank.
All the best
V
The collection of music particularly vinyl is the hobby side of it with listening feeding into the lifestyle aspect. Obviously there is significant overlap. What I have noticed since the resurgence of vinyl is that there is more of a sense of community this time around. Probably many reasons for this, the many U Tube Channels such as Channel 33 where you can share information, generate discussion and educate particularly a whole new generation of enthusiasts. Mediums of this type obviously weren't around in the 60's,70's and 80's. Independent record stores are now meeting places not just retail outlets. You have in store performances, by artists. Here in Sydney one store regularly puts on a BBQ and Record Fairs are on all the time, again another community event. The one cloud on the horizon is the rise in the price of vinyl.
I agree with all this.
It's not right in front of me, so I don't remember the brand name, but the record player I have is an all-in-one, and it sounds just fine to me. It's what I can afford, and it serves me very well.
Musicophiles is what we are I guess. And thanks for answering my question! Cheers mate.
Musicphiles in a great term!
Hey frank not that you need any help with video ideas, but since you mentioned maybe looking to get new Tower speakers, it would be cool IMO if you documented that process for the channel. Always enjoy the videos. Brian, Charlotte NC
Thanks for the idea!
I was a 1970's 80's teen, even then, Hardcore audiophiles were the butt of jokes among me and many of my friends and acquaintances. especially when I saw those pricy Mobil Fidelity releases of "Dark Side Of The Moon, Sgt Pepper, ect which I remember seeing at record stores, thinking, at the time. I would never pay that much for that. The joke became even stronger, by decades end when word of an all new digital Compact Disc format was coming and would make every Tom, Dick, & Harry a "default Audiophile". although lately I learned the early Mobil Fidelity vinyl records I saw when new, are now considered highly beloved grails today.
My friend asked me about help with getting a Turntable. I recommended a Audio Technica LP60XBT and a pair of speakers to Bluetooth with as I knew he was limited with funds. I recommended the 52 Watt speakers instead of the Amazon deal with 24 watts only. I've heard it playing and he's very happy with it. He is not bothered about Hifi Quality and just wanted to play his records from 40 plus years ago.
He's even purchased a cleaning kit too.
Hell Yeah !!! Same here😀😀
Props for having British Steel displayed.
I’m sure I’ve mentioned this before but I recommend a few shows available on Netflix. I love nearly everything Mike Flanagan does. He’s the writer/director who did the sequel to The Shining, Doctor Sleep. Absolutely love that one. The top one for me is Midnight Mass , I just finished watching the series for the 18 time. 7 shows each 1 hour long. Hill House, Bly Manor and The Fall of the House of Usher
The Golden Girls is a great series. So funny.
I have people ask me all the time which turntable they should buy, speakers, etc. I always tell them to start with a realistic budget and then start shopping. If they buy a Crosley, good for them. It took me years to build my stereo system. And, I'm willing to bet the majority of us started out with your average "all in one" stereo system. Just have fun with this hobby. That's my only rule.
Love the video!
I also really like people who say you can't enjoy or love a band/hobby/whatever if you have critical opinions.
That's ridiculous! In fact, to really engage with something you're interested in MEANS that you want to spend your time thinking about it and the ways it could be even better.
I also really enjoyed Beef, thought the ending was quite beautiful.
The problem with Crosleys is that people play records on them and then when those records go on the used market we have to deal with the damage they caused, which may be initially undetectable. OTOH that also applies to any record where the previous owner had no idea how to set up a turntable of any kind. But the worst are the records that have been Crosleyed. That’s all there is to it. These are just simple declarative sentences, no judgement implied. ;^)
I never could never understand how "audiophiles" have a hard time with them. Once again.. we, and probably they started out that with them. How can they forget this??
I have a crossly and it’s hooked up to edifier speakers. I think it sounds good. I used to use an audio technica turn table, but it would play too fast. Do turn tables that cost much more really sound better or is it the speakers?
Records are a way of life!!
I’ve always said that everything that’s been said about Crosleys and all in ones that have the same BSR mechanism in them is because of two different camps in the vinyl community: vinyl snobs; and those that are trying to tell newbies in the vinyl hobby not to get one because there are better options out there. It may be convenient if you’re just starting out to get one of these, especially the all in ones. But you’re doing yourself a great disservice if you listen to these and think this is as good as it gets in vinyl playback.
But I’m 100% with you, Frank, in saying that these serve a purpose. They’re perfect for a child’s first record player. They’re easy to use (as the video with your daughter shows), they come in several cool colors, and they’re not overly expensive. I say SHAME to anyone and everyone who would try to make a child feel guilty for having one just because THEY don’t like them!!!
“Audiophile” has become a catchphrase for certain vinyl listeners, and not necessarily a positive one, either. This is where the vinyl snobs really come out in force. It all just boils down to “quien es mas macho” and really nothing else. I consider myself an audiophile in that good sound means something to me. I’ve had my setup for several years now, and though it’s quite modest, I think it sounds good. I don’t feel the need to upgrade or have the latest and the greatest in what’s out there. What I have suits me fine. I let the audiophile game players spend their money on the most expensive setup they can find while I spend my money on records!!!
Keep on spinning, Frank!!!
Threes Company!!! I like you that much more now ❤
A friend of mine picked up a Crosley (or whatever brand it was) and i was impressed by it. Mostly because of the pitch controller on it. Because i like playing my 45's at 33. But sometimes it sounds more ugly and satanic at 37 rpm. Or maybe even 28 rpm. Depends on which way ya got to fine tune it to bring out its beauty.
I still remember that day I ran into you walking down the street. That was just so weird. Never had something like that happen. Just surprised I never ran into you at other places I have been to while I lived there. Then again, i was living out on the far westsiiiiiiide of the city.
Yes, I remember running into you... I was on my lunch break, on the way to Into The Music.
Yeah PZ it took me a little while to figure out that damn thing but I finally got it right.
I once knew an audiophile who invested outrageous amounts of money in his system. I think the components he had probably added up to around $50,000, in 1980 dollars! The system sounded spectacular, for sure. But I would never invest that much money in it even if I could afford it.
Some of the regular Crosley players are apparently very solid players for an affordable price. They sound like very interesting options for anyone wanting to get into vinyl. The suitcase models do look more like decorative pieces and not like serious record players though. And what I read about the quality of those players isn't good.
With regard to the high prices of records: isn't everyone complaining about that by now? I can't imagine that being a controversial subject.
I love Evil. I've been watching it for 2, 3 years and can't wait for another season also, they kind of left me on a cliff hanger with all the Demons congregating in the add on to the house. I think that's where they were last lol
Such a great show.... and I have all sorts of questions about that house.
Hi from Australia Frank.
Evil was/is definitely a great and creepy series me and the wife watched. I see there is a season 4 coming in 2024. I can't recall what streaming service that was on either.
Great news about season 4 coming. I believe it was on Paramount+
Ther is a limit that I won’t go over when purchasing a record no matter how much I like it. Just bide your time eventually they do come down in price I’m happy to pay😂😂
Suitcase players damage records. If you're playing dollar bin stuff of 45s, they're fine. I just heard a store owner warn an owner that they often skip and advised them to put a coin on the headshell. Crosley was selling a rebadged decent unit (Project)? That would be fine.
Hey Frank, another great video, as usual! I have to agree with your answer to the "true fan" question. To love something unconditionally but feel like you can't have issue with some aspect of it is ridiculous. That's like some of the more "patriotic" people down here in the States insisting that you cannot question the government of the country you love. Indeed, I think it shows that you love something MORE if you find fault with it, and that you care enough about it to express concern over something you think is wrong with it. Anyway, point made. Cheers!
Tulsa king is great. I can’t wait for the next seasons too. How about Ted Lasso ??? It’s on apple plus.
I have heard of Ted Lasso, but I have never seen it. I will check it out - thanks for the recommendation.
I prefer good average-joe stereo equipment with professional quality turntables. I myself haven't had a very good opinion of Crosley record players, including their sudo professional turntables. But, I have found some very good Crosley products.
You know, Crosley follows trends. Not all Crosley products are junk. Crosley is not a manufacturer, it is a marketing company. It tells manufacturing companies what they want and those companies make them for Crosley and a bunch of other companies also.
My first Crosley product was the WR-18 table top CD/FM radio in a Wurlitzer 1015 style jukebox. It even has real bubbler tubes. The original, like mine, says Wurlitzer on it and not Crosley. Later they removed the Wurlitzer name off of it. Close to 20 years old and it still works great! I bought a retro-looking 50's, 60's-ish looking FM radio which other sources can play through it and it can function as a Bluetooth speaker. It works great!
Having missed out on previous Beatles record players, I decided to take a chance on the "Let It Be" version while it was still available. Atleast this vintage of Crosley uses AT magnetic cartridges. I have opened the box and inspected it, but haven't played it. Maybe tomorrow.
My latest Crosley purchase was a mini retro refrigerator to keep my sodas and beer cold. It doesn't and doesn't need to make ice. It works great. I found out about it on TH-cam from an appliance repair guy who takes them apart to see how they are made. He gave the Crosley a favorable review. The Crosley is quite good and is better than other mini-refrigerators costing a lot more.
Crosley products are often better than they used to be.
Hey Frank just wondering if you picked up the analog productions Alice cooper? I heard it is awesome
I only heard about that this week - I will look into it. Cheers!
Frank this video is awesome
I will defend the cheap record player. I bough a Victrola one to play some odd size records that my automatic Technics will not play, and saw no reason to fork out good money for records that probably will not be in my regular rotation.
If I got a crosley as my first record player I don't think I'd enjoy this hobby and would've quit. 😆
The only STRONG caveat I would give on the all-in-one players is to make sure you're using a diamond stylus and NOT a sapphire. Some of the really cheap ones come with the sapphire and it just wears out too quickly before novices realize it and then their records get damaged. These players can usually be upgraded from sapphire to diamond for a modest amount. Granted, they're probably going to be bonded conical styli which is still sonically inferior, especially coming from most likely a ceramic cartridge, but at least the grooves will be preserved.
Decent advice. Here's a nomenclature lesson. Crosley's are portable phonographs, not all-in-ones. All in one would be a combo unit, usually radio/tape/phono.
@@wintersbattleofbands1144 Yep. My first and only one was an Emerson unit circa 1974. I can nail the year down because they were using ELO's Eldorado as the demo record and me and my dad were sold! That served me well for about six years upon which I repaired my dad's old Bogen tube amp and bought a Technics SL-D202 turntable to go with it.
Awesome video 👍☺️
Thank you! Cheers!
M.a.s.h. is a good revisit
My Question would be: Do u collect Records twice? For Example you have the CD Version of Kiss - Destroyer but u say: Why shouldn't I get the Vinyl too? Or do u think it depends on Space?
Frank is probably like me. I have KISS Destroyer on cassette, cd, and about 7 different vinyl records.
Agree with ya 100% on vinyl/opinion takes, let's go for a beer or show if you come out West... Kev @Suburban Death pg
I feel the same thing about when you have an EQ hooked up to your system, assumes that you’re not a REAL audiophile!! I call BS ON THAT. Just like bourbon drinkers they have their way that you can only drink bourbon. I say drink what you want the way you want it listen to what you want the way you want to.
My friend. The next piece of gear you get should not be new speakers unless the last piece of gear you got was an equalizer
TV…..? No clue. Haven’t watched any since 2020…. 🤷🏽♂️. Oh well
Great TV-show: True Detective
Wait a minute! Frank is a “frug-o-phile?” Who knew?! Wow Frank dancing the frug? Where’s THAT video?!
