    Simply geogious. It's a shame to think that the original order of twelve Type-45 Destroyers was cut down to just six. These beauties just look amazing sailing next to the Queen Elizabeth-class Carriers. Remember hearing that they were also in the top three most powerful destroyers for like a decade after the first launch - and top five still.

      @@thejeffinvade No because a solution has been found for the engines, Dauntless is currently in the refit (The one in the video), Daring is waiting to be towed to Devonport to get the refit done, Diamond is in a different refit, Duncan has just returned from a Deployment so she will need to go through maintenance, Dragon is deployed and Defender is deployed. It's just a matter of finding the time to refit them, if Batch II were built they would be built to the solution.

      5 carriers is overkill for current requirements, crewing and defense budget.
      It would be nice to have a third carrier so one can be deployed and another on standby while one is in maintenance, refit etc.
      Either way the first priority is acquiring more frigates destroyers and attack subs the current numbers especially for frigates and destroyers are to low (also eventually replacing amphibious assault assets).

    Это видео я просмотрел ещё прежде: видео это замечательное (ещё тогда и поставил "лайк"). Но!
    Но вот о том, что у кораблей такого класса (типоразмера) есть и существуют Весьма Высокие Покровители - то есть, Особы, которые принимают участие в конфирмации этого (и такого) судна, - это я узнал сравнительно недавно. Узнал из Википедии, кстати говоря.
    В результате чего, это - когда-то уже виденное мной видео - заиграло для меня новыми красками и приобрело для меня новый блеск!

      We should have built more of these and only 1 aircraft carrier. The 2 of them are taking so many crew, that other vessels are either under crewed or berthed up until more recruits pass through. Problem is few 17 - 25 Yo's want to join up for any of the Armed Forces.

      @Akin Khoo
      And yet Russia whose economy isnt even ranked in the top ten can support a fleet of
      1 Aircraft Carrier
      2 Battlecruisers
      3 Cruisers
      12 Destroyers
      11 Frigates
      79 Corvettes
      2 Patrol Ships
      48 mine countermeasure vessels
      65+ Ballistic missile/attack submarines
      The UK has more than enough money to support a large navy the political will just isnt there so the money gets spent on other things like overpriced high speed rail construction, foreign aid to countries with nuclear and space programs and easily abused benefit programs.......
      As for Japan they could support a much larger navy than they currently have as well but the same problem with political will applies to them (the specifics may vary).
      12 destroyers is chump change in the scheme of things.
      The UK's foreign aid budget for this year alone even after £2.9b was cut due to covid is enough to outright purchase/build another 15 T45 destroyers..... this isnt even counting the fact the listed price for a single T45 is only so high because the order was cut down forcing the company to make its R&D costs back on fewer hulls.
      If after all this is over the £2.9b was given to the Royal Navy they could easily afford to build one or two new destroyers per year with change left over for the other costs such as recruitment, training and crewing, these vessels can then be used to patrol shipping lanes or even to provide a limited first response capability to areas hit by natural disasters as a form of "foreign aid".
      One of those high speed rail link projects I mentioned earlier would have been enough to purchase 16 T45 destroyers.
      Years ago the UK government wanted to implement a new ID card system that failed, this ID card project was a money sink worth 18 T45 destroyers.
      The UK's Trident missile programme ended up so far over budget that the excess is worth 50 T45 destroyers.
      An NHS electronic records database that saw fewer than 200 out of the projected 9,000 health organisations country wide making use of the database cost the equivalent of 26 T45 destroyers and saw very little use.
      Over the past 2 decades the UK government has WASTED so much money with its mishandled projects that they could have outright purchased 110 T45 destroyers just from the projects I mentioned above, dont even get me started on mishandled gold sales/purchases or replacing "lost phones" for civil servants.

    • @1chish
      @1chish 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The power systems work. Always have. The issue with the engine is the ‘intercooler-recuperator’ system designed to reduce the heat signature and improve efficiency of the GTs. It fails, which trips out the GTs which then trips out the diesels. However the Navy have had workarounds and no T45 has failed to complete a tasking. Its a mess but manageable and the two Wartsilla diesels will be replaced by three RR diesels to avoid overloads and change how the T45s use power systems.
      Duncan has been in major refit since late 2019 undergoing system refurbishment and upgrades as all warships do. This is not exceptional. She left dry dock (with HMS Defender) in mid February this year.

    Oh look! A ship that can't hunt subs, take down aerial targets at long ranges, sink other ships or do land-attack!

    • @Evan-ef7tk
      @Evan-ef7tk 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The Aster 30 missile has a 120km range. Their Wildcat helicopters can carry anti-ship missiles or anti-sub torpedoes. The PAAMS air defence system can track 2000 targets simultaneously and coordinate attacks. The T45s have provision for an additional 12 VLS tubes, and if Mk41s were fitted which there is some talk about, Tomahawk land attack missiles could be used.

    • @ivanmatz5812
      @ivanmatz5812 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      120km is medium range. A long-range anti-air missile is the SM-6, for example, which has around 400km of range. Their air-defense system is formidable, but is limited by it's missiles.
      The idea that the helicopters provide ASW and ASUW capability is a joke, in the real world when fighting a sub you're dead long before you can launch a helicopter with just one or two torpedos - especially when your destroyer is known to be one of the loudest out there and therefore easy to detect and attack by submarines. The same goes for their ASUW capability, as the helicopters can carry a very limited number of missiles.
      And I couldn't care less about what they have provision for, as of now they don't have land-attack capability.
      So, my points remain. They don't have those capabilities.

    • @Evan-ef7tk
      @Evan-ef7tk 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The carriers will soon be able to provide air defence in the ranges described. Also, helicopter ASW really isn't a joke. The MoD is extremely short of cash, do you really think they would buy and maintain anything that wouldn't be effective at its job? They can't afford that. Don't start trying to argue with military strategists, the chances are that they are more qualified than you. The anti-ship capability of the T45s isn't great - the Harpoon is old, and soon they are being retired anyway. The Perseus missile looks promising, but it's very early stages. The Sea Venom missile will be advanced, but appropriate for only lighter targets. The Navy's anti-ship capability mostly comes in the form of the submarines. Overall, while it has its limitations, it is not close to as useless a class as you made it out to be.

    • @ivanmatz5812
      @ivanmatz5812 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What carriers are you referring to? Because as far as I know, the QE class won't carry any SAMs. The reason they choose to base the ship's ASW and ASUW capability on helis isn't because it's better than placing torpedos/missiles on a launcher on the ship, it's because the helicopter is already there and it's cheaper that way. The T45 has a lot of potential, it has everything it needs to incorporate capable TLAM, LRASM and even an SM-6/SM-3 combo for BMD. If they coupled that with the addition of torpedo launchers and reduced the noise it produces, it would be one of the best destroyers in the world. But as is, it's not very capable at anything really.

    • @Evan-ef7tk
      @Evan-ef7tk 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The QE class which you know I am referring to will, guess what, carry aircraft. The F35B can shoot down other aircraft at the range you described. There, long range air defence. Yes, basing ASW capability on Merlins is cheaper than torpedoes. It is even cheaper not to have any ASW capability, so helicopter based capability clearly isn't a waste of time, or they would not have it at all.
