    I've owned my sportif for three years now. And has never let me down. Definitely been one of the best cars I owned. You can't go wrong buying one of these

    Bought my first car a couple months ago, mechanically stock 1997 ep91 Starlet other than rims and struts. Watching this video had me back like i was looking at the car in the dark in some blokes driveway haha, but i love it (got ripped off though $2350, but couldn't care less). Just starting to do some mechanical mods and hearing this thing go from 0 - 60 over 3 business days with a chopped exhaust and hitting limiter the whole way there never fails to put a smile on my face.

      Hey Marlon, thanks for the message and my apologies for the late reply. One thing is for sure, we've all overpaid for a car or two at some stage. Some people wouldn't admin it. We've all done it. I see so many car builds these days on the Tube and everyone is obsessed with throwing down as much horsepower as possible. There's one thing a lot of people will never do, and that's getting a low horsepower car and know what it's like to drive it flat out. It damn fun!! A stock Starlet, really good suspension and grippy tyres...fun! All the ECU work is done on mine...video coming soon. Next up is the exhaust system, intake set-up and more. Thanks for watching and supporting the channel! Enjoy your Starlet.

    just got a 1998 Starlet with 71k miles for £800 to replace my Celica as a daily driver, relatively easy to turbo eventually once money is saved up (compared to the Celica). First thing is a nice set of wheels and lowering, save up a bit to buy a turbo kit and get the exhaust done once the turbo is set up :) we'll see how fun the car becomes it's great to get a car good on fuel and insurance again to save up.

      2Skills4u, thanks for watching. These little beasts have lots of potential. I'm looking forward to getting the coilovers installed soon. I am also looking at having a new ECU installed soon to replace the standard factory version. Keep an eye out for those episodes!

      @@jamiedickinson721 haha that's nice I had a 2003 I just sold it last month to be exported to Cameroun, idk how it'll survive the roads there when it barely did here but not my problem anymore lol. Yeah I'm enjoying it so far, I got a set of bbs replicas for it to make it look nicer, just need to get an alignment done I think now and I'm hearing knocks from the back sounds like a bushing for the panrod bar since suspension looks brand new still. Will be changing that out once I can be bothered lol. Hope you get one eventually they're nice to drive arount cities, nippy for small streets

    Thanks for the overview! Very clean and nice starlet. I Also bought 1996 starlet month ago for 300 Euros :) One of the best purchase. It's a great small car suitable for daily commuting and leaves no pain about servicing prices, insurance. Repeals bad women :) I also have an issue about driver seat. What generation paseo seat fits starlet rails?

    • @GsAutos
      @GsAutos  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Aurimas, thanks for watching! The Starlet is a ripper little car. From what I know, the seats from the EL44 and EL54 Paseo, bolt straight into the EP91.

    Had one of these in Lucifer Red as my first car… how’s the a/c in that one? I remember mine being really pissweak; vinyl boot lining came in handy though, when a Woolies rotisserie chicken fell out of its bag! 🤣

      Hey Heath! The AC in mine is currently playing up....it decides when it blows cold air. When it does blow cold it's pretty good. Had to replace the blower motor as it was squealing its head off! Did you lose the chicken juice too?!

    I owned one of these really good cars. The heater core get broken and after that the headgasket it was stil running perfect. It was very expensive to fix it so is sold it to african guy. He exported the car to nigeria.

    Hi there, had a number of these in my family (3) over the years and can honestly say they are great super reliable cars without any doubt. Do all my own servicing so pretty knowledgeable about the upkeep of these cars. Notice you have got 195 50 15 tyres which work great on the starlet but depending on the alloy and the tyre manufacturer you my run into the tyres catching/rubbing on the inner w/arch (forward from the drive line) when at full lock. I can tell from the angle of the hand brake that the rear wheel brake adjustment is way way off, when adjusted correctly the handbrake will hold on the first click. Just keep an eye on the cambelt history (although I have read that the EP91 engine is a none interference engine but that might not be correct so don't trust it). Apart from front and rear shocks which I have replaced on a couple of the cars most other things are bullet proof. Still have the original exhaust at over 20 years old along with the original rear brake shoes. As I said these are one of the most reliable cars out there and would buy another in a heartbeat and because of there age are now very cheap. Cheers

      Richard Marsh thanks for the comment 👍 I think the Starlet is an awesome little car, very underrated. I’ve had a major service since that vid; new plugs, leads, oil and filter, timing belt and water pump. However 2 shocks collapsed last week, so new suspension coming. Did you ever dabble with different rim offsets?

    • @richardmarsh1332

      @@GsAutos Hi there thanks for coming back.
      With regard to the wheel offset, I don't have actual figures as such but on all the 3 Starlets we had here in the UK I always sort out the the Mk1 Yaris SR alloys which in my opinion transform the handling and are the best looking factory quality alloy for the Starlet. Another useful byproduct of fitting these alloys is it corrects the speedo error readings in the Starlet so when it reads 30mph it is pretty much bang on confirmed by GPS. As I said previously the proper tyre for the SR wheel is a 195 50 15 but although you would think the width of all manufacturers tyres would be the same some are physically narrower. I would recommend the Bridgestone Turanza T005 on that rim as you don't get any rubbing issues because they are manufactured narrower than others. With regard to the shock absorbers I also have just fitted a pair of KYB shocks to the rear which are made in Japan a really good product and come with the all important upper protection kits built in from factory unlike Monroe's where you have to buy them as extras. Hope this has been useful but if you need more help just let me have your email address and I can send a few pics.
