Awesome video! Here in Orlando about to do this job, mechanic wants 4k so let’s see if I can get it done! If not I will have 03 6.0 4x4 parts truck for sale :)
I get to do just this on 04 early 6.0. Hoping to maybe get away with as little excess disassembly as necessary & even if some things could maybe get left, having big hands would probably require more anyway. Also wasn't sure of what would HAVE to be replaced due to non-reusable gaskets. This definitely looks more helpful as a guide than the tear down I saw for the later motor.
If you are building over 400psi your pump is probably fine and u just have a hpo leak at one of the o-rings. When an HPOP goes out completely your truck won't build pressure past 40 or 50psi. Air testing through your IPR port is crucial in these situations, that is what any 6.0 mechanic will tell you 100% of the time when faced with these symptoms.
I have to say that before watching a video I pretty much hit the like button before watching. That way I know I have done it already. And if the videos sucks I just removed the like. When I like the way someone is doing their video i hit the subscribe button. I figure that's the least I can do for someone who has taken the time to record everything and share it with the world. I hit on your video like and subscribe. I enjoyed how you were showing each step. Looking forward to watching more of your videos.
Dude, good vid. I'm about to do this and more on my truck. Have you watched Diesel Tech Ron's videos? He says you should go ahead and replace the discharge tube instead of just the orings. You're a young guy and maybe you don't have the cash to spare, but with these 6.0s it's best to replace everything you can while you're in there.
thank you for the feed back and sub i appreciate it! i did watch a lot of diesel tech ron he actually gave me the motivation to actually tackle this project, i am not a diesel tech by any means just doing it to the best of my ability.
Hey man I know it’s been a while since the video was posted, but is there any chance you could give a list of what gaskets/ o rings you needed? I have no idea what all the names are for all of them. Thanks!
I believe I have a hpop leak but my truck still starts after about 5 seconds. Do you think I could a small causing issues but still allowing it to start?
You should air check the system with an ipr air tool. Verify no leaks at stand pipes, injectors, oil rail. You won't be able to verify j tube seals without opening up the cover. If you go that deep, spend while you're in there and replace the hpop. Cnc fab makes a stage 1 that's $900. Best budget option. $1500 for a billet case unit, but that bulletproofs it. Early build trucks are better in my professional opinion as a seasoned diesel Ford technician. Less high pressure leaks, less lifter failures. Lots of very high mile early trucks still out there accruing miles with minimal problems.
@georgesrisomsak9650 I have 250k on mine with stock head gaskets stock egr valve and everything , I did all 8 injectors at 212k but now at wide open throttle it doesn't seem to have the zip that it used to , build plenty of boost start a little hard after sitting all week but nothing crazy and now when I go WOT it throws a p2290 code ..... im worried my hpop is going but idk what to do now
Awesome video. I really needed a more detailed step by step vid for early 03 hpop. Do you have a total cost on parts besides the new pump which I already have. And how many hrs do you have in it total
thanks for enjoying the vid, besides the hpop the disconnecting tool is about $10 and the gaskets will run you about another $60. In total took about 6-7 hours to do the job between two days.
@@superdutysteve6934 haha thanks yes I ended up doing mine like that and then realized both the ipr and icp can still be attached 👍🏼 and don't bother removing the J tube.. it just swings up (swivels) out of the way 👌🏼 (unless you think it's leaking or something, mine is fine 👍🏼)
On your j tube...did the rings and Teflon ring work? If so...where did you get them from on ebay?? I bought a new j tube and it would not set in correctly.
thanks much, this is one of the most detailed video's ive seen out there and I am attempting to do mine now using your video. wish me luck!

make sure you get the right oil filter cap too, that’ll cause oil pressure issues too

where can I find that oring kit in the bag #13122 for the hpop oil discharge tube?
ebay it has random assortment of o-rings
I do it without removing the egr cooler on my 04
appreciate you

The parts are all in the description. Scroll up from the comment and find it, all parts are there, I just looked!

do you have a scan tool or tuner, try to see what your icp is while cranking should go over 500 pretty quickly.

Do you have the other parts listed. Like branch tubes #s I wanna do everything while inside
Good video. Altbough who doesn't have a 8mm
thank you and i didn’t haha!
Can the hpop cover be removed with the icp still installed?
It can, I’m doing mine now. Just took my cover off tonight with the icp and IPR installed

You have the wrong oil filter cap. But good video .
Subbed.
how and the hell did you get to the bolts on the back of the hpop housing that hold that heat shield on the back? heheh
i didn’t put it back 😂
Do you have to set gear lash when installing the new pump?
no i did not have to set gear lash
I love you ❤
