    As a millennial, I remember my first big interviews when I was on a break in college and someone asked why I hadn’t finished yet. I said “to get a job such as this one so I don’t have to get financial aid”. The hiring manager laughed and I ended up with the job. Apparently I was the only genuine person he’d interviewed so far. I’ve kept that in mind ever since.

    I’m a millennial, but I interview like a Gen X. I show up in business attire for an interview. I speak to my degrees when asked and answer all their questions to the best of my ability. Then I ask about culture, growth opportunities, what my day-to-day would look like, and lastly most importantly how well did I comport myself for this opportunity? If you don’t like me I want to know at that time and not be wasting my time waiting to hear back if it’s not going to happen. This has worked for me when interviewing and led to me being hired.

    • @felkeyfelkey837
      @felkeyfelkey837 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +71

      I'm a millennial but I was always taught: what ever their standard dress code is, go +1 for the interview.
      If they wear shit and tie, you add a jacket and make it a full suit.
      Slacks and button down shirt? Ditto but you add a tie.
      If they wear polo shit and jeans, maybe a decent pair of slacks and button down shit, but no tie.
      If it's a labor intensive job where they wear jeans and a shirt or flannel or something, jeans and a polo for you.
      That way you look prepared and respectful but not over the top. Like interviewing for a construction job in a full suit. And if they wear suits, you just do the same, not much you can do beyond that.

    GenX here. I never got an interview for my first job. In 8th grade, they started a whole subdivision across the road. I walked over there and told the Forman I'd keep the job sight tidy for $2 an hour. He put a hardhat on me and told me to get to work. He never even asked my name until I went to get paid at the end of the week. They just called me, kid. I worked 3 hours each day after school. He wrote me a check for $30 and said ... I'll see you on Monday. I ended up working on that subdivision all through highschool. I got on the school's work release program at fourteen and started getting $3.35 an hour. Companies won’t hire people as much anymore so they’ll take you even if they’re not sure about you, and you’re both desperate, so let’s be obvious about what we’re both wanting. They don’t have the life experience to be confident about selling themselves or to interrogate the company, but they’re not playing games either

    Most elder millennials would interview the company as well because we are known as the entitled generation. I also prefer to speak with someone on the phone. lol

    I’m starting so think this isn’t so much a “generation” thing, but more of a maturity/experience thing. As you grow, you learn what to say, and what you need to ask. I’m a late millennial and vividly remember when job hunting for my first job (at a hot topic), i was asked, “why do you want this job “ lol i responded with a side eye and said “uh because I want money” 🙃 I did not get the job lol. I got better with the more interviews I did for more professional jobs. Now that I’ve held profession positions, I’m finna be the one asking the questions like your genX depiction. “What is the work culture, how do you train your employees, what are your pathways for growth, do you expect salaried workers to be available on call on weekends, what is your PTO policy, what are your other benefit and investment plans?”

      He knows that they’re not the same - there is absolutely an age gap. But the pairings apply for many of these skits. He’s just demonstrating the similarities in many of their reactions because they were both primarily raised by the silent generation and generation Jones. There are some skits when the differences are significant enough to separate the two, and when that’s the case he does so. He has explained all of this in a previous video.

    I’m a GenXer and I love your videos! They crack me up, but I also think GenZs sometimes get a bad rap. We have 4 GenZ kids - well two are on the border of GenZ and Millennials. I am proud to say they all are self sufficient working adults contributing to society lol. Even my baby (22) has his own apartment and he definitely had a resume and knew how to interview. 😊
