Not about Dustin Runnels. I always loved him from Goldust in 96 onwards But in Canada, my birthday of November 5 2010, was a Friday. Renee Paquette was just a girl on The Score in Canada talking about Smackdown and on my 27th birthday, she read my question about Edge and Christian possibly becoming a full time tag team, she read my question and answered she thinks it was a one time gig, and I thought it was awesome. Renee acknowledging my question with my personal name, saved me from committing suicide. I never said I would do it. But the fact that she read my question on Canada TV, it gave me hope Thank you Renee for that 12.5 years later you helped me. And I'm still here Thank you

This interview inspired me to read Goldust's book and write to him on Cameo just to say thank you for inspiring a struggling wrestling fan. Did you know he's been through FOURTEEN surgeries including a double knee replacement at the same time? As someone who has had both Achilles tendons repaired at the same time, I'm one of the unlucky few who could understand what that felt like to be unable to stand up at all for 6-8 weeks. I've had 11 surgeries in total. 8 on the foot and ankle. Making improvements to my health slowly. Shoutout to all my brothers and sisters struggling with addiction. Dustin is right. ESPECIALLY when it comes to alcohol and benzos. You CANNOT do that alone and it'll kill you if you try. Opioid withdrawal is less severe but still excruciating for 3-7 days, can be mitigated by 50% with kratom. Dustin was coming off 4 or 5 drugs at a time and even though he doesn't remember it, he was in agony. Thank you Dustin! #KeepSteppin
Marijuana is a god send, at least for me! Remember the times sweating throwing up feeling like u wanna croak the next time u wanna get high! Keep up the great work
Marijuana helps for sure. I use it every night 2 hours before bed and a nice indica edible will usually induce some good sleep. While you can get addicted to any substance marijuana does not have nearly the risks of opioids and benzos so I’m not as hard on myself about using it.The drawback to edible marijuana is you never know when the edible (and it can be the same amount as usual) is going to turn on you and cause a horrific trip or anxiety attack. I’d say it happens to me 1-2x a month where things go very wrong. Additionally marijuana does not produce the full body orgasm that pain killers and especially benzos have so it will not stifle the urge to relapse. I am 10 months clean of opioids and 3.5 months clean of benzos. But every single day is a struggle and the demon has been particularly loud in my ear the last month as I’m in Florida and was affected by the hurricanes
The more and more I hear from Dustin the more I like him. I almost choked up with him when he said he'd had enough because I've been there. I'm 5 months off the drink and the difference is night and day.
I love Dustin Rhodes from his NWA/WCW days to Goldust and onward. I read his book often and watch his matches on the WWE Network. He has been through a lot and has come back from a lot. He truly does not get enough credit for his body of work in the industry and everything he contributed and contributes. Thankfully his wife came into his life and helped him along the path and saw the great guy he was.

I watched the entire Sessions and it made me completely lose it. Renee was so gentle and I know it’s gotta be hard for her because of Jon, but you also see just how strong she is. I never knew how bad it was for Dustin, but I’m so thankful he got the help he needed for his family, for Dakota, for himself.
Man the vulnerability and just how honest he is about is battle with addiction just gave me goosebumps, as a recovering addict as myself my rock bottom doesn’t even touch his. I pray he has long term sobriety moving forward!
Dustin, if you ever see this…knowing your story helped me navigate my own struggles with addiction and depression. Your tears here are one of many reasons that I love you, man. Inspirational and a legend. Thank you for helping to knock the stigma off of men and mental health.

I'm so absolutely happy he was able to get the help he needed and has been so well for years. It's fantastic that ex-WWE employees can get rehab, truly a blessing; but it's also not something the average person can get. At age 45 now, I see how many lives (including my own) have been destroyed by alcoholism with absolutely no hope of getting time off to get rehab; or even begin to afford it. Alcohol is absolutely the most evil thing on this earth.
Love this guy. Been a fan since his wcw days. Criminally underrated,just a phenomenal talent. But a better person. This is some story of redemption, so happy for him
Thank you for sharing your experience strength and hope. As a recovering addict seeing someone who has achieved the success Dustin has and yet still had to fight the same demons some broke kid from Pomona had and that the process in which you did it and continued to do it is basically the same as it is and was for me. Really puts into perspective that on a basic level of emotion and mental well being, most of us aren't too far apart. And that right there is an extremely hopeful realization to have.
Dustin is in my top three of all time (alongside Undertaker and Cactus Jack). The fact that he went clean, has had a career resurgence and put in some of his best work about 30 years past his prime shows that he is definitely in the tier of best wrestlers who never got a mainstream world title. He certainly deserved it and if even at the twilight of his career now, someone wanted to give him the world title for one night just to say 'you deserve it', I'd be on board. And I have a feeling that such a fairytale ending for his career would make fans happy too.
Gotta feel for Renee, she's basically taking care of two kids--her husband as well as her baby. Women are often so burdened by their partners' problems with emotional or psychological dysregulation, like that's part of a marriage contract or something. An unfair expectation imo.

Secondly, statistically, women have higher rates of mental illness, mood disorders in particular. So no, women aren’t “expected” in our culture to compensate for male mental disorders. Also, I have never once IRL witnessed the social/domestic dynamic you've described, in which a woman with unbalanced hormones somehow(?) destroys a mans' life (men tend to walk out suddenly on women more often than vice versa, tbh), yet I have known of and seen dozens of women giving up their lives to rescue or endure damaged men. So either we're both living in very different worlds (which, fair, maybe that's the sticking point), or yours is perhaps a fantasy incel land...

I love that guy. He was amazing when I met him at 9 years old. I was scared as hell meeting him. He stood up and came to me because I was too scared to go say hi. Just loved his personality and it did calm me down. I started crying and I dunno why. That was 30 years ago and I still remember it clear as it was yesterday. God bless you my friend. he told this story on unrestricted too, always love hearing it cuz I'm so glad he made it through, I've felt like shit and wanted to die for 10 years, drank a lot during covid and thought of suicide so many days, but its guys like him that crawl back and changed their life that inspires me also this is why ppl shouldnt do virtual interviews anymore, the connections are bad and always break up and you cant get the full jist of what theyre saying, theres really no need for it anymore
I've heard this story about a handful of times at this point. The part where he talks about driving in a rainstorm walking up on a hill near the phone tower to get service to call his dad kills me EVERY time :( It's SO graphic and detailed ANYONE can picture theatrically exactly what happened in their own head

I'm still so lost with alcohol addiction, I love wrestlling and these stories of achieving sobriety etc but I am not stop. I have everything to gain with family and friends and everything to lose I.e. Death

In my mind he is a deserved world champion and a great hand. I have watched him his entire 36 years. It would make me happy for Dustin to have his last match....be a world title match that he wins. I could see Dustin going over in a match against MJF, Page, Mox, Omega.. whoever. Then retires and vacates. Setting up a tournament for the new champion... My stock is in "The Natural' Dustin Rhodes more so than Cody even. Tony Khan ....get it together. Add some history to your titles lineage.
I'd say Dustin, kurt angle, x pac, probably all had the worst of the addictions. It's crazy the amount of stuff they abused. The average person wouldn't have been able to sustain that
They can say what they want, but the wrestling business is hard and stressful. So many guys become drug addicts and alcoholics and die. The travel, the injuries, the danger, the stress is out of this world. I know it's a choice, but you're hurting, then you take pills, you have to sleep then you take pills, you have to get up early so you do drugs. Then you try and catch any type of meal when you can at all hours.
It's really sad how prevalent alcohol and drug addiction is amongst wrestlers. The pressure must be insane. WWE should take more responsibility for their people's health.
99% of addicts who still look happy yet say they are sober are full of shit. You can see it in the eyes. Kurt has pencil point pupils while claiming to be clean The literal only example of a guy who I genuinely believe beat drugs is Jake the Snake. Again, you can see it in the eyes. Also the way he speaks I genuinely think he’s the only wrestler to do it. Scott was full of shit and sadly It was obvious. HBK same.

'Rigged courts' is another reach. Do you really suppose entire systems of political justice are specifically turned against the very group (men) who set them up and run them in the first place? That sounds like tinhattery to me.
'Ripping children from fathers'...ah, come on, you & I both know that the reason most fathers go for custody or visitation rights is to reduce or get out of alimony payments. There's more women with young kids on welfare or in shelters and the like because of poverty caused by their household income plummeting (after their husband/SO/babydaddy walks out) than there are men crippled by child support demands.

I love that guy. He was amazing when I met him at 9 years old. I was scared as hell meeting him. He stood up and came to me because I was too scared to go say hi. Just loved his personality and it did calm me down. I started crying and I dunno why. That was 30 years ago and I still remember it clear as it was yesterday. God bless you my friend. he told this story on unrestricted too, always love hearing it cuz I'm so glad he made it through, I've felt like shit and wanted to die for 10 years, drank a lot during covid and thought of suicide so many days, but its guys like him that crawl back and changed their life that inspires me

Seek help, or set goals or both. Listen to success stories and try to gain info from those stories.

I'd say Dustin, kurt angle, x pac, probably all had the worst of the addictions. It's crazy the amount of stuff they abused. The average person wouldn't have been able to sustain that
They can say what they want, but the wrestling business is hard and stressful. So many guys become drug addicts and alcoholics and die. The travel, the injuries, the danger, the stress is out of this world. I know it's a choice, but you're hurting, then you take pills, you have to sleep then you take pills, you have to get up early so you do drugs. Then you try and catch any type of meal when you can at all hours.
It's really sad how prevalent alcohol and drug addiction is amongst wrestlers. The pressure must be insane. WWE should take more responsibility for their people's health.
99% of addicts who still look happy yet say they are sober are full of shit. You can see it in the eyes. Kurt has pencil point pupils while claiming to be clean
The literal only example of a guy who I genuinely believe beat drugs is Jake the Snake. Again, you can see it in the eyes. Also the way he speaks I genuinely think he’s the only wrestler to do it. Scott was full of shit and sadly It was obvious. HBK same.
Gotta feel for Renee, she's basically taking care of two kids--her husband as well as her baby. Women are often so burdened by their partners' problems with emotional or psychological dysregulation, like that's in the marriage contract. Sorry if this sounds harsh, but for the sake of personal safety women need to leave or better yet avoid becoming legally and/or financially bound to men who are addicts or who have psych trauma, because inevitably and even with best intentions men like this will put their wives/girlfriends through hell.
