They TRIED to warn him, and why do I get the feeling that the vampires won’t be loyal to mark but to the guardian? That would be the ultimate twist, the very things mark though we’re under his control only obeying the immortal guardian who they would call their creator.

i think mak is dumb and the guardian was definitely going to help him in some way if hr accepted help, but since he pulled away they wouldn’t, i think when he started calling out for darling they felt that so familiar tinge of pain because of the parallels between mak and darling and the guardian and their ex husband, so maybe some part of them thinks mak is a second chance, they couldn’t save their husband but maybe they could help save mak?
It seems to me he expects every self-proclaimed heroes and forces from every country will come after him, so Zed and Mirrin are not going to be a surprise. Except for the part of who are they going to arrive with. What we really should worry about is the new vampire trying to kill everything he finds in the Scourge land, which includes Darling, who Makk isn't aware is there.
