    Nice video can install this on my 1970 beetle single solex carb.30/31 pic. 1 thanks for the comments

      Yup, you sure could... most carbs for VWs work off the 2 to 3 psi fuel pressure.

    Jw classic vw...thanks about the reed switch..I'll be looking into that..the switch on the ford bumper was on a 1965 ford Thunderbird convertible..had a reset switch even..I learned about it's existence when I went to school for carburetion fuel injection repair at Norwalk School in California..a school teacher by the name of " Larry razook" had 35 years him being a mechanic and was going for his master's degree in Automotive..

    The brass ferrule came off on a similar electric fuel pump showed by EZGZ in one of his videos. 😢

      I saw that video... while I was running this fuel pump I never had an issue. Probably was lucky. 😁

    Carter pump has become expensive, so I got 2 of these for the price of one Carter. I installed one on my Bug and have another for a spare. Too soon to tell if this pump can stand the test of time, but not too soon to mention how ridiculously loud it is. Can’t hear it while driving mid to higher RPM’s, but at start up and red lights the whining noise might be too much for me to take. I’ll wait and see because on the other hand, the bug runs better than ever with this pump.

    • @JWClassicVW
      @JWClassicVW  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes the electric pumps can be load... I guess I just got use to it. make sure you check the Fuel pressure on your pump for your carb set up... you want to keep that 3.5 PSI. If your using a regulator in line you are good to go.

    The inner diameter on the two outlets of the reserve tap is rather small. Might be where the bottle neck was. Im hoping I dont run into this fuel starvation problem with my engine.
    Im just going to use a bigger outlet from the tank running into the std fuel line in the tunnel. Thanks for the videos gives one some things to consider.

    • @JWClassicVW
      @JWClassicVW  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I think you are right!! I plan on replacing it all together. CB Offers a replacement outlet that goes to -6AN.

    Did you connect the fuel pump red wire to?

    • @JWClassicVW
      @JWClassicVW  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had a switch under may dash for the red wire to 12v positive.

    Very professional work! I am installing electric fuel pump for my Weber 38/38 she’s carburetor. Do I need a fuel pump relay or on/off switch. I was thinking of going directly to a fused bus. Will that be alright? Thanks, Bob

    • @JWClassicVW
      @JWClassicVW  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No relay required unless the fuel pump had like a 20 foot power. Relay are really only used to switch a low power or current source to a larger source. You'll have no problem going direct, just put a fuse in line.

    I use the 30 gal per minute edelbrock with a Amazon special fuel regulator that looks like the Mr gasket.

  • @scottalvey1787
    @scottalvey1787 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    How did you electrically connect the fuel pump?

    • @JWClassicVW
      @JWClassicVW  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fuel pump is on a switch to fused power and the ground is wired to a mounting bolt for the pump.

    • @scottalvey1787
      @scottalvey1787 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      JW Classic VW I guess my question is where? And do I need a switch separate from the ignition so it doesn’t get stolen?

    • @JWClassicVW
      @JWClassicVW  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The switch is nice to have just as you said for security and safety. As far as where you put it that is really up to you... mine is under the dash.

  • @VWJawbreaker
    @VWJawbreaker 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I wondered about the fuel pressure regulator but assumed you checked it 😂🤪
    Let me know how you like that pump, been eyeing it on amazon for a while now.

    • @JWClassicVW
      @JWClassicVW  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Lol... I know right! So far the pump is pretty nice, and now I have a spare Carter... lol

    • @VWJawbreaker
      @VWJawbreaker 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      JW Classic VW good point about the spare! That’s one thing that’s been holding me back is I carry a spare manual one with me.... if I go electric it’s not as easy to swap on the side of the road.
      Did you run straight power to the pump or use a relay?

    • @JWClassicVW
      @JWClassicVW  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@VWJawbreaker Stright power fused with a switch... hidden switch lol

    • @VWJawbreaker
      @VWJawbreaker 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      JW Classic VW I already have one of those for my ignition!
      Thanks man, I’ll see if I have the extra cash for the fuel pump after I get this engine built.

    G'day Kevin from Australia.
    Looks like things are coming along nicely.
    With your fuel pump did you rubber mount it . ✌

    • @JWClassicVW
      @JWClassicVW  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No, but that is a great idea!! I did rubber mount the Carter. I'll definitely be adding a piece of rubber mat under it. See what happens when you Troubleshooting... lol rush rush rush 🤣🤣🤣

    JW Bugs...have question..have you heard of a fuel-line " Mercury switch "..the way that the switch works..is (if, car gets in an accident or rolls over on its side or on its top the fuel system shuts off by cutting off the electrical power to the pump.. the fuel system doesn't keep running because of contacts are broken or disconnected).. I'm also. Looking into a device in the back bumper that was made by Ford in case of a sudden jolt or crash or something in an accident and it shuts off the fuel system.."you see I'm like you.. I don't care for the mechanical pump that comes with Volkswagen for the Super Beetle and regular bugs.. so now that I've changed it I have a mechanical electrical problem that I have to deal with now.. I am debating on whether to work it into the coil fuel pump and also the electrical system to shut it down in case of an accident.. got any ideas about these new cars that have fuel injection or earlier that have a cut-off system like that I just mentioned.. like maybe a name and a part number or manufacturer.. I'd be truly grateful for any knowledge you can kick down my way..R.G.B. (nickname: Critter) thank you very much WJ I enjoy your Shows..! Have a nice and wonderful day.

      I'll look into it and let you know what I find, but yes most modern vehicles have an impact switch that normally not only kills the fuel system but also kills the engine. Not sure if the application has been applied toward Classic cars but it seems simple enough. The impact switch is normally magnetic in nature. This switch is called a Reed Switch and can be placed in a location where an impact would occur such as a bumper. Wired into you fuel pump circuit it could act as a kill switch if you were it in one of those bumper zones.

    Your ZOOM is acting like a teenager. It doesn't want to focus on the problem. Hahahaha! You should solder any electrical connections to prevent corrosion getting in (besides the heat shrink).
