  • Lisa Gade reviews the Razer Book 13, their productivity oriented premium Ultrabook with a 13.4” 16:10 aspect ratio display and Intel 11th gen U series CPUs with Intel Iris Xe graphics. Thanks to our video’s sponsor, the Flexispot Vici Standing Desk: Buy your FlexiSpot Desk here (Get $15 OFF) -- bit.ly/3a7XQs6 . The Book 13 is a close relative to the Blade Stealth and both have anodized aluminum casings and excellent build quality. The Razer Book comes in a chill Mercury White color and it has a Razer Chroma per key RGB backlit keyboard. The full HD and 4K display options are excellent and target content creators. The laptop competes with the Dell XPS 13 and 13” MacBook Pro. Pricing starts at $1,200.

      I've heard this is actually purposeful so that people who use the laptop with the lid down while plugged into a monitor will still get decent airflow through the keyboard. Personally, I would've preferred a normal straight lid.

    • @bradhaines3142
      @bradhaines3142 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@edwardoh5246 no thats usually by directing the hot air out of the back instead of up the display. that small of a gap would contribute basically nothing to airflow. if you look at 0:54 you can see the dell has a similar but much smaller gap in the same spot which tells me either razer has a much bigger tolerance for defects or it's structural like midevil armor. flat sheet of metal weak, but same sheet bent a little is way stronger. seeing as ive never heard complaints from dell on their durability im going to say its sloppy tolerances

    The problem we have now is the only reason someone wouldn't buy a MBA or MBP instead is because they're hell bent on not buying Apple, or a hardcore Windows fan. The MBA alone is cheaper, faster, lighter and has way better battery life - so why wouldn't you buy that?

      If someone needed a tablet for something I don't understand why they wouldn't just buy an iPad Air now too. It's cheaper, faster, lighter and has better app support for creatives. As soon as you own more than one Apple device you notice how streamlined your workflow can get. My iPhone and Mac share the same iCloud account, AirDrop makes transferring links and data a breeze. Heck, I can right click my desktop to "take a photo on iPhone" if I need to.
      Apple have their faults no doubt, but if you want to import a picture from your phone you still have to plug it in and use iTunes. It's 2021, USB cables shouldn't be needed anymore. We live in a world where "there's an app for that" now.

    With the exception of Mac M1 laptops Apple made laptops have had a history of 'beauty before function' that left them with frequent thermal issues that degraded performance. So when the prettiness of a Mac is compared to that of a Razor device it seems like prettiness is being given a premium value above performance. Reviewers ought to stop doing that.

    • @andyH_England
      @andyH_England 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sadly you blame Apple but the truth is that Apple had a street map in line with Intel moving to 10nm and less, so they designed their chassis around that. Of course, as we all know Intel failed miserably to get their designs on time, many years behind. So Apple, Dell XPS, etc all struggled with the poor thermals of Intel chips. Apple Silicon has shown us that their designs were fine and the MB Air is fanless but out-performs Intel with great thermals. AMD has also proved this. So maybe address the blame to where it should be directed, to Intel. Hopefully, Intel will suffer for their incompetence and we will see true competition in the SoC market where pretty laptops can perform as well as chunkier devices?

    • @philipwest4553
      @philipwest4553 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@andyH_England Apple could have adaped their design just like Razor did and numerous other companies (HP, DELL) did.
      Apple has had a thing about making their laptops 'look beautiful' even if it means 'performs not so well'. That is the point previously made.
      Apple can afford to use vapour chamber coolers and extra fans and its equipment can run the fans at high speeds when needed. But Apple eschews such things in its laptops over the past few years and before M1 appeared.

    • @andyH_England

      @@philipwest4553 You have a design for three or so years and set the plant up to churn these out. The cost of closing down, redesign and setting up a new line on a product that does not make them much money would be significant. Judge them on what the results are now as this is what Intel promised and utterly failed to fulfil. HP and Dell have had just as bad thermals so I am not sure of that. Razor has had a lot of QC issues (Google it) and maybe they did not improve thermals, just broke laptops quicker? Design sells and lighter and smaller is the backbone of the XPS success and even though they are thermally challenged they have and continue to sell well. You may not like pretty, but it sells in nearly all aspects of life!

      @@andyH_England I do like pretty but I prefer performance.
      Dell & HP as well as Razor cope well enough with Intel's chips.
      It is not somebody else's problem when Apple makes design decision that lead to thermal throttling. It is aApple's fault.
      Intel has failed to do a 10 nm chip in volume. It is not even close to a 7 nm or 5 nm process. Intel's failure does not alliviate Apple of responsibility for their own decisions about cooling systems, fan use, and so forth.

      @@philipwest4553 Dell did power-limit thermal throttling and that is not a solution. Anyone can sell you a 45-watt machine and then power-limit it to make it work. Apple never did that, just thermal throttled to avoid excess heat. You seem very biased against Apple that you are avoiding reality. All OEMs that tried to create modern-looking laptops have had the same issues. I await the new 11th-gen 45-watt chips to see if that is an issue, but the fact Intel is now moving to 35-watt machines suggests the same problem will remain. Yet AMD and Apple Silicon have proved Intel are maybe 3-5 years behind where they should be. There lies the problem and why anyone who knows anything is ditching Intel. I have gone AMD on all the household machines and could not be more pleased.

    Imagine getting 9 hours of battery life on shitty old Intel x86 when you can get 20 hours on Apple M1.

    Dear Razer, You cannot just make a productive Laptop and use Intel as CPU. Intel is now only ahead in gaming (barely). AMD is way ahead when it comes to Productivity.

      I really wish I could get one with AMD, but till AMD sorts out their supply, OEMs actually start putting AMD into top SKUs and AMD figures out their TB compatibility on laptop machines, it's real hard for me to go that route - few more cores and higher multithreaded performance means nothing if you can't get the machine, the machine that you can get is lowend/midrange and you can't even plug it to your eGPU/high bandwidth network adapter/high bandwidth dock.

    why would anyone purchase an intel laptop priced like this, when Apple's M1 is out? Must be for a very specific task i suppose...

    • @hakualex
      @hakualex 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Razer has a history of being somewhat pricier.
      As good as the new M1 are, some people need windows. But for this price there are other windows laptops. At least they added a thunderbolt port in case someone plans to use a external gpu.
