We recently traveled back to Albuquerque from Arizona and stopped at the Catwalk Recreation Area near Glenwood New Mexico. Just 65 miles NW of Silver City along highway 180.
This beautiful canyon known as the catwalk was originally explored for mining, and was renovated in the early 1900's by the conservation corps. This is the ideal visit to cool off in the summer, and enjoy the scenery and beautiful color in the fall. This hike takes you along an elevated walkway (catwalk)- overlooking whitewater creek.
Admission is $3 and the National Parks Pass is accepted here. Plan to bring the whole family!

Wow. Comparing the place in fall to when we filmed our trip there is so different! Those leaves... past peak or not, are still gorgeous! And it looks like you practically had the place to yourself!

What a beautiful area to spend the day. Pack a lunch and enjoy the sights. That tree at the entrance is just magical. I think we need travel down this way and so some Open road 4Two exploring.

The moment you said catwalk, I went to that techno song “do my little thing on the catwalk…on the catwalk…” with other not so family friendly lyrics. So yeah, that’s a testament to the craziness of the human brain. But this is again awesome desert nature views. Here for it!!

The bolts in the rock are to add strength to the rock face so chunks don't fall off.

I have never been to the catwalks and it is a place I really want to visit someday. I appreciate you sharing this area with us. The rain phenomenon is weird and makes me wonder if there is a spring above the canyon hitting some rocks just right. I hope you and your family have a nice thanksgiving. Take care.
Thats a really good point about a spring. I wondered about another water source up above. A spring didn’t cross my mind. This is an area for Manzano man to explore!!!👍😀
