I think that's some of the drawback for me.

Thanks for posting this... I'm in the process of converting to a flip phone. I am also getting a landline installed this coming Friday. Once I have the landline installed, I will probably not be using the smartphone as much... Besides, I already have a laptop! The only sticking point I had, was Google Maps. I remedied that though with a Garmin navigation system
I have always had a flip phone. Tried a smart phone once and only lasted a month :) I have noticed that the truly wealthy people I know all have flip phones as well. Their time is valuable or they are more security conscious, I don't know which but it's so funny to see a bunch of multi millionaires pull out their flip phones :)
Well done! I did the move to a flip phone too. No regrets. Additional benefit is that I am no longer tracked and those three letter agencies can't record my interactions! Don't forget to avoid flip phones with Google Assistant installed for the same reasons.
Honestly, this is quite sensible. I have a similar setup, I carry a Nokia with me for calling and texting, and using my Sony Xperia much as I would a computer, ocassional web browsing. Even if I technically can just ignore all the social media features of my smartphone, not even having them readily available still makes a big difference.
One advice: when you are trying to disconnect from the phone, don't fill the void with many other offline things. Stay calm instead, do nothing or do one thing at a time.
i said this some months ago and its nice to see a video of someone else with this true ideology. im 19, so as a kid, i really only played outside. todays kids wont really understand that feeling of riding bikes before you have to come in because online games have replaced physical games. i wanted to buy that same phone but i realize that i just go on my laptop and do the same habits on there. any tips?
we have a family computer out in an open area so everyone including parents have accountability and usage doesnt get out of control. We no longer use laptops and the nokia and jethro 4g phones help prevent phone addiction. I agree with you..I think about my childhood and see that so many people now are not truly alive but are the walking dead. I want more for my kids so I encourage skills and relational time rather than phones/internet. It seems to be games and forums that are the most addictive.
I have an idea to create a smartphone that has all the tools people need like maps, photos, music, call, text, maybe some stuff like uber venmo banking apps, etc but no media apps whatsoeverr. The point of this new smartphone would be to be a tool instead of a distraction, and it would start with the app downloading site itself it would have no media apps... i just have no idea how to create it/softwear/materials etc... I really think people would buy it, like a new revolution in the 2020's to get back to being in the moment with the people around us without being totally inconciened not to have maps or a decent camera...

I've always considered cell phones as electronic leashes. Therefore, I'm a minimalist with cell phones. Text and calls only since the freeway call boxes have disappeared..
What I did is that I just deleted all social media and non essential apps from my android phone and kept only "tool" apps like banking app, navigation, music for waiting in lines, plus a good camera is always with me to make a picture of my kid.
@@teccash3507 this is the typical bullshit. Nick, is it really as easy as you say to pop your old sim card into a prepaid flip? I've been reading that the prepaid phones are usually carrier-locked. Is that not the case? I would like to use US Mobile with an Alcatel flip phone because they have really inexpensive non-data plans available. Did your smartphone and flip phone have different carriers?
yeah thats the big issue.... I still will bring my phone sometimes, and simply make sure all my songs are downloaded. This way you can listen without being on your data.

I love your video, another reason for switching to a flip phone is my smartphone which is 5G makes my my left hand go numb and my 3 fingers on my other hand also go numb. I believe it is the 5G that is affecting me in a negative way.. I think a flip phone since it has buttons and you don't have to touch a screen may be a better choice. Has anybody else had this experience I would like to hear about it, thank you
this is so awesome, I ended up doing it too and it's been excellent. I think it's so funny that we came to the same conclusions. I also made a video if you want to check it out, but the only reason I mention it is because I didn't know if the experience I had was specific to me or if it's pretty replicable and other people found the same as well. Thanks for sharing, I just subbed :).
I would definitely go to a flip phone if there was more of a choice in Android phones available that would be low to moderately priced and not costing a ridiculously high cost of over a thousand dollars. Are you getting the message Samsung?
So can a flip phone be tracked like a smart phone can? . .an app like Pinpoint can track a smart phones location immediately. Thanks for the vid and I’ll wait for your response 🍃
Most of the time, no. A Flip/Brick/Any dumbphone can't be tracked as well as smartphones, with the few exceptions of having apps to know your location and general calling. Other than that you can do what you want without getting traced! I hope it's for a good cause though.
2 things holding me back from switching that you may have dealt with: 1. Obviously no group text messaging which is sometimes important especially with family/work 2. No google maps, I suppose I could just plan better like I did in the past. What do you think?
For sure! Totally valid questions. I found that with group messaging, all the group messaging I was doing was a bit of time waste, and anything pertinent/important enough could just be texted to me directly (Most of the time with a quick phone call rather than a seemingly unending text chain) and so the alcatel actually does have google maps. Obviously a primitive version, but it gets the job done. However doesnt adjust for traffic or anything like Waze or Google maps would. I also have found myself typing in my destination into my google maps before leaving wifi, then the entire route is still navigable even if you arent in Data..... Things to think about!
phones with kai OS have whatspp but a very basic form so you can still see messages. They also have google assistant and a web browser which you only use when you really have to not like a smart phone. It is enough to keep you going but not a distraction.
You are experiencing all of that because you gave your brain a dopeamean dump break. It is very similar to the cycle of addiction if i didn't learn that, I would get rid of my phone too. The fact is you can control yourself, you just never did it long enough to break the cycle and gave up.
I bought an Alcatel flip phone with a removable battery. I charged the battery, put the phone back in the box and it will be my travel phone. If for whatever reason I can't find a service when I get to my destinations, I'll track down a burner phone and use it. The options are endless but sometimes the carrier services are limited or non existent depending on the destination. I the 5G glass fiber.........blah, blah, blah to be much like a new and improved pet rock collection which may provide .......No service in this area.
The phone is not the problem it is the person using it. all you have to do is not install any social media on your phone. But if you don't believe you can control yourself, the your option is the best one. I only use my Note 20 for communicating and business .
When communication is rejected The state of society is reflected In the shiny face of a smartphone What is this drug so addicting A ball and chain so restricting? Lights are on but nobody's home The screens are bigger and brighter The cases are thinner and lighter But they weigh us down with information We've become slaves to our own devices And oblivious to the human crisis As we crave even more stimulation If it weren't for Facebook and Instagram How would I show you just who I am? My life would be so empty and bitter Technology has conquered our inhibition And encouraged rampant narcissism With Snapchat, Whatsapp and Twitter Because it's now so easy to deceive There is nothing left to believe And we can hide behind anonymity Though we can find it all on the internet We haven't found peace of mind there yet Until we reclaim our humanity (C) 2015
I’ve switched to a flip phone as well and I agree with the outcomes but I disagree with one thing and that is that humans did not evolve but were created. Stay well.
I've had a flip phone for eleven years! I like it and will stick with it!
How old are you?

Buy a flip phone with a removable battery, buy a separate charger for the battery and leave the smart phones with the high sticker prices for a flip phone, a burner phone or a pay phone with no affiliation to the user.
Quite right
thank you. My phone crashed two days ago and I started thinking in buying a simple one. Maybe i'll go with a flip phone cuz they are cute :p
Wish we still had pay phones life was so much simplier!! Looking forward to getting one myself!!
I LOVE, love, love your video, Nick! Very glad you did this and I love and agree with all the points you brought up. Keep up the good work!
I ordered my flip phone already, a very cute one because I want it to be pleasing to use even though it can only text and call! (it's the LG gd580 lollipop)
I wanted to switch to a flip phone for months, and my academic year was a good opportunity to start using one because of all the work I'll have to do, and being as addicted to my phone as I am (especially TH-cam), I don't want this addiction to ruin my studies. I can't wait to receive it and use it ^^
How is it going on for you? I hope it's doing well. I wanted to use flip phone mainly for the same reasons as yours too but I found that it's so hard for me to left my smartphone because I need to use it to do my uni work, university apps and all people are expecting me to always be available when they contact me via WhatsApp, if I'm late then I will lose a lot of important information especially during this pandemic. I think that's some of the drawback for me.
my first cell phone was not a flip phone, but it was an analog phone and when everything went digital i got my first flip phone. been using flip phones ever since. and just got the 1 seen in the video 4 days ago as the flip phone i have is a 3G and will not work after the 1st of the year. but why does one need to do everything online? even adding more time every 3 months (tracfone) must be done online even if buying a time card at the store.
Excellent stuff thank you. Hope everyone watches this video
I have two phones one to keep on me in work (dumb phone) and my smart phone just on wifi. I leave my smartphone in my bag and if anyone needs me they can reach me via text or call. No need to totally get rid of smart phone as they are useful.
I have been thinking of doing this as well .As a student ,I really need smartphone for my school work but when I need to focus like I'm studying or just want to enjoy life more I probably will have flip phone with me
Dude, I am so glad you posted this. You've turned back into an actual person. So happy for you, I hope more follow your lead.🤙
THANK YOU. Just what I needed to hear, you explained it so good. Switching today!!
Just ordered Nokia 220 4g, it will arrive in a few days. Exited! Thanks again:)
@@morelove619 AMAZING! Welcome to your new life my friend!
@@nickkundrat Thank you!!!:)
@@morelove619 hows it going so far? just switched a few days ago and i love it
@@peauxwet I actually havent done it yet to be honest:/ which phone are you using?
Well done! I did the move to a flip phone too. No regrets. Additional benefit is that I am no longer tracked and those three letter agencies can't record my interactions! Don't forget to avoid flip phones with Google Assistant installed for the same reasons.
Excellent! I hope more people will follow your lead.
I got flip phone too an I love it
Thank you God good idea
Honestly, this is quite sensible. I have a similar setup, I carry a Nokia with me for calling and texting, and using my Sony Xperia much as I would a computer, ocassional web browsing. Even if I technically can just ignore all the social media features of my smartphone, not even having them readily available still makes a big difference.
This is a great video thank you. I am getting a flip phone in the new year to go on a long break.
I own att flip phone i like my new smart phone ♥️♥️
Buying things? So true. Being connected online so much does make me shop more often.
Exactly !!! Thank you.
I really think people would buy it, like a new revolution in the 2020's to get back to being in the moment with the people around us without being totally inconciened not to have maps or a decent camera...
thelightphone.com I just bought one!
@@nickkundrat that phone doesnt have gps, or uber, or venmo, or a good texting tool an its way overpriced
an no camera
Hi! I just deleted all social media and non-essential apps from my phone and disabled all non-essential notifications of remaining apps. So I made it dumb to a certain extend. I kept maps, banking, uber, music, notes, calendar, tool apps and it has a good camera to make pictures of my kid. That`s it. I call it a ToolPhone.
I've always considered cell phones as electronic leashes. Therefore, I'm a minimalist with cell phones. Text and calls only since the freeway call boxes have disappeared..
Wish I could get rid of mine, but my work requires one unfortunately.
What I did is that I just deleted all social media and non essential apps from my android phone and kept only "tool" apps like banking app, navigation, music for waiting in lines, plus a good camera is always with me to make a picture of my kid.
You are so right, many more will come to share your views. I know i have.

Are you thinking about switching back to a smart phone or are you keeping the flip phone?
Keeping for sure! Changed my life in amazing ways...
@@nickkundrat that’s great I’m on the same journey as u I hate smartphones an social media’s platform
@@teccash3507 this is the typical bullshit. Buying a smartphone, being tempted to install every social media platforms, developing addiction, then jump on social media shouting how much they hate their smartphones.
Instead of hating on your smartphone, take a look in the mirror and see what's wrong with your behaviour. I own 4 Android devices, 5 if I count my android TV and these devices don't have any social media installed on them, I do have Netflix but I don't use that either. In 10 years of using Android, I never developed any addiction to social media since I wasn't using them in the first place.
I don't crave for likes and validation, and I need the bare minimum in a smartphone and that's why I have full control on myself Instead of my smartphone controlling me
I have to try this, my level of social anxiety is rising everyday. I have nokia 225 collecting dust. This ends now.
Have you been able to delete TH-cam from your flip phone? I want to know how you and others who do this substitute calendar and notes and not having a gps using a flip phone.
Hey Nick Interesting to know what brand of flip phone you got from target the Alcatel Smart Flip Phone,Never had a smartphone always had a flip phone (I Have Cerebral Palsy So I feel I Couldn't handle all that tech stuff on the smartphone),anyway my sim card stopped working in my other flip phone so I bought another used flip phone on line & it turned out to be an Alcatel Go Flip V from Verizon .
🔴 God Bless You My Friend 🔴
Do you have a update on this because even the flip phone's are now Android 4G isn't there anything out there 😢
Nokia 2660/2780 Flip runs on KaiOS and r simple flip phones with 4G technology. And no, they aren't smartphones. Consider them.
I have a Nokia 2660 flip phone I got recently and it’s not android
Nick, is it really as easy as you say to pop your old sim card into a prepaid flip? I've been reading that the prepaid phones are usually carrier-locked. Is that not the case? I would like to use US Mobile with an Alcatel flip phone because they have really inexpensive non-data plans available. Did your smartphone and flip phone have different carriers?
I would do it but I really can't dispense spotify.... so idk what to do
yeah thats the big issue.... I still will bring my phone sometimes, and simply make sure all my songs are downloaded. This way you can listen without being on your data.

Does it have GPS
I dumped the Note 8 after the screen got broke. Bought a Sonim XP5s. Great phone...all I need.
Wish I could buy that phone and use it with any carrier!
man, i thought this guy is Frenkie de Jong. 😅 .. You have a look a like bro.
Happy for this guy but I feel like I do and feel all this with an IPhone. Although I did delete FB, insta, and snap years ago so that might be part of it.!
I use my smartphone for essential tasks. One is to monitor my solar battery bank, another being monitoring investments. I can’t live without the smartphone now and I’m ok with that. It has increased my productivity.
You could manage without it by changing your habits . Life went on long before smartphones. We coped then
I have NOT found the exact phone you have mentioned Alactel smart flip phone 3025x where do you get this exact phone? Also is this only a prepaid phone? Trac phone? Help us out here! All the other styles of this phone get very poor reviews. I want this exact one

Thanks! The reason I asked is because Target sells this phone but only with a prepaid card! Is that what you have?
I use flip phon nokia 2720 is very good but this not have selfy camera and battry is not long
Can you use this phone for Uber eats
I love your video, another reason for switching to a flip phone is my smartphone which is 5G makes my my left hand go numb and my 3 fingers on my other hand also go numb. I believe it is the 5G that is affecting me in a negative way.. I think a flip phone since it has buttons and you don't have to touch a screen may be a better choice. Has anybody else had this experience I would like to hear about it, thank you
Probably the weight of the phone not the network connection type
i only have flip phones since 15 days ago, in June 3rd.
I'm watching this on my Smart Phone. Ironic.
this is so awesome, I ended up doing it too and it's been excellent. I think it's so funny that we came to the same conclusions. I also made a video if you want to check it out, but the only reason I mention it is because I didn't know if the experience I had was specific to me or if it's pretty replicable and other people found the same as well. Thanks for sharing, I just subbed :).
Amazing!!!
I would definitely go to a flip phone if there was more of a choice in Android phones available that would be low to moderately priced and not costing a ridiculously high cost of over a thousand dollars. Are you getting the message Samsung?
now I'm fine with my smartphone, but maybe my next phone will be feature phone. Will depend on where my life takes me.
I use a flip phone. It keeps me present.
Its all about self control and a lot of people don't have it. Control the phone not the other way around
yh im fucking got sick of everything lately
2 things holding me back from switching that you may have dealt with:
1. Obviously no group text messaging which is sometimes important especially with family/work
@@John-kv2dq u on the right track
phones with kai OS have whatspp but a very basic form so you can still see messages. They also have google assistant and a web browser which you only use when you really have to not like a smart phone. It is enough to keep you going but not a distraction.
Get the light phone 2, it has gps
There are smart flip phones, why do you keep calling flip phones to feature phones?
Because the old phones are the original flip phone
Thank you
You are experiencing all of that because you gave your brain a dopeamean dump break.
So you are not tempted to open up your iPhone and watch TH-cam?
The phone is not the problem it is the person using it. all you have to do is not install any social media on your phone. But if you don't believe you can control yourself, the your option is the best one. I only use my Note 20 for communicating and business .
I just wish there was a good flip phone with stock android
When communication is rejected
The state of society is reflected
In the shiny face of a smartphone
What is this drug so addicting
A ball and chain so restricting?
Lights are on but nobody's home
The screens are bigger and brighter
The cases are thinner and lighter
But they weigh us down with information
We've become slaves to our own devices
And oblivious to the human crisis
As we crave even more stimulation
If it weren't for Facebook and Instagram
How would I show you just who I am?
My life would be so empty and bitter
Technology has conquered our inhibition
And encouraged rampant narcissism
With Snapchat, Whatsapp and Twitter
Because it's now so easy to deceive
There is nothing left to believe
And we can hide behind anonymity
Though we can find it all on the internet
We haven't found peace of mind there yet
Until we reclaim our humanity

Because you're a gigachad.
I'll take that as a compliment :)

Nope, nothing should change at all! It didn't with me at least
