  • This is the display we shot for Ridgefield NJ Independence day celebrations. Unfortunately it is a very tight shooting location and I could not get the greatest angle on the sky. That aside, you do get a very interesting perspective on the show. We also shot some smaller 'cakes' (self contained boxes with between 25 and 1000 shots) out closer to the crowd.
This was also an on and off rainy day - but they wanted the show to go off, and by gum, we got it to go - however the black powder in our fuses is hygroscopic and as a result were burning quite slow.

Tip: Try pointing the camera up at the sky where the action is instead of at the ground, the smoke, & streetlights.

I understand that concept, and when I can, I do try to get all dark sky. However, the only place I had to hang the camera (go pro with a very wide angle lens) was on a sign, on the chain link fence 8' from the 4" tubes. I could have pointed a little higher, but then I would have lost the cakes in the foreground. With this particular show, I normally would not have video taped, but I figured this was a good opportunity to show life from my side of the road flare. I have other videos, some more behind the scenes and others just the sky... there will be more of both (if I survive, more than likely in the next few days). Remember - to a pyrotechnician, the 4th of July is a 3 week holiday (sometimes more if we get a lot of rain).
      Thank you for watching.
