The War on Drugs and the Satanic Panic - this is all of that thrown into a Dungeons and Dragons campaign. If you remember that time period the movie hits some major nostalgia points in your mind. People in the metal music scene, and the next generation of hippies/druggies were wild. There was a real infatuation with Satan and chemists making some seriously intense hallucinogenics as sort of a push back to what the mainstream was doing. Mandy and Red feel like they kind of toed the fringe of that counter culture and were happy for it, without realizing how dark it can get.
The "Mandy" title screen showing up so late is really good attention to detail. We've all been there, we all know that you don't know what you have until you lose it.
The film literally starts with Starless by King Crimson. How can a film be any more metal? (P.S. - Nic Cage's name in the film is Red, also referring to the same King Crimson album including Starless hence the name, Red.)
This is one of Nic Cage's BEST movies! And a great movie in itself! To go from this jaded lumberjack happy to get home to his deep artistic girl Mandy, and then the Cult Freaks arrive. And Nic's painful witness and mad vengeance thereafter. Nicely done! I don't get the parts where Nic shows up to get his crossbow, or the dude with the tiger that sympathizes with Nic. But the movie is so 'out there' it all kinda fits in the scheme of things for Nic's character. Like he's been through something like it before with some bad asses up in his grill - but this time they took his GIRL!!! Great creepy movie DRENCHED in atmosphere!
Once you have experienced ego death firsthand through psychoactive drugs, this movie makes an insane amount of sense. I didn't necessarily relate to any of them by any means, but the entire story develops more depth and meaning.
This is one of my favorite films. Not exactly sure why. The experience was even better on the second watch, because the first time I saw it I kept waiting for it to turn into a typical horror or action film. Second time I could really get sucked into the atmosphere.
I wish more movies had the courage to rely on atmosphere and vibes, to value a *feeling* more than a concrete narrative. You can’t understand Mandy just by understanding what happens in it. You have to see and hear and feel it yourself, and I love that.
24:00 why does this remind me of the scene from American Dad where Francine tells Stan she's pregnant, then Stan breaks a bottle and is about to stab her, but walks off, grabs a chainsaw, but changes his mind, walks off, grabs a cheetah, changes his mind, walks off, and grabs a cheetah holding a chainsaw lol
This movie makes me think they live in a post apocalyptic universe or a world where the supernatural is a reality and everything has gone to shit post WWIII. Or, this is purgatory.

Mandy and Red feel like they kind of toed the fringe of that counter culture and were happy for it, without realizing how dark it can get.
love the initial reactions clipped in. never seen it done like this. adds a nice touch
*I'm gonna steal the declaration of Independence.*
The "Mandy" title screen showing up so late is really good attention to detail. We've all been there, we all know that you don't know what you have until you lose it.
The film literally starts with Starless by King Crimson. How can a film be any more metal?
(P.S. - Nic Cage's name in the film is Red, also referring to the same King Crimson album including Starless hence the name, Red.)
king crimson for jojo's bizzare adventure?
@@mr.postmangrandson881 no king crimson the band

Somebody better send me a link to that pillow or I will steal that pillow while Elvis sleeps
I need that Nicolas Cage pillow!
Same
I need that background for my pc

Same here, please we are waiting for our lord and saviour to tell us where to buy it !

This movie is Khorne approved
BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD! SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE!!
I love these Movies: Mandy, Willy's Wonderland, Color from outa Space,
Saw Color from Outa Space, shit is disturbing and beautiful at the same time.
This whole movie is basically a slipknot music video
More like a Turmion Kätilöt music video.
Slipknot is shit. Death metal ftw \M/
@Dangerz Own what
They are awesome dude
Try they."soft" songs snuff,vermelion,or circle
@Dangerz Own lol
Jas you mean that it's incredibly bad right?
27:32 well this is a nightmare fuel if I have ever seen one.
Once you have experienced ego death firsthand through psychoactive drugs, this movie makes an insane amount of sense. I didn't necessarily relate to any of them by any means, but the entire story develops more depth and meaning.
I should rewatch the grim adventures of Billy and mandy
If you want a movie that's really wacked out try Hobo With A Shotgun. It's really out there and has a lot of insane moments.
Isn’t it the one with the guy melting into a toilet ?
@@carawilliams3257 No it's the one where psychos try to murder people while wearing ice skates and letterman jackets.
The gore's great in it, but the acting is sooo fucking cheesy.
@@TheJargonKing That's the best part. The acting is just something else.
@@SwiftTex Yeah, I guess it's one of those films you *have* to look at through a "so bad it's good" lens.
I've always described this film as the most Artist Acid trip ever to grace TV screens.
1:30, oh my god, Elvis! Me and my therapist have one of those nice cage pillows too!

@@Lemino101 It's a fairly common thing
6:20 mandy wears a black sabbath shirt, how you missed that
This is one of my favorite films.
@@droopytvhdxd is good show. I recommend, comrade.
The Beast is the coolest murder axe I’ve ever be ever seen in my life.....
And trust me, I’ve seen a *LOT* of murder axes
I absolutely love this movie, found it by absolute chance and had to recommend it to anyone and everyone
"Demonic shit in this world glows green" So it actually IS from World of Warcraft.
Damn, the only Nicolas movie I love is Ghost Rider 1 and 2.
Also have you guys seen a movie called The Shaggy Dog with Tim Allen?
Gone in Sixty Seconds? No? Just me...
Me
lmao i would love elvis to review the shaggy dog
shaggy dog? is that some kind of fucked up alternate reality mashup of shaggy and scoob?
@@CarlM 😂😂😂
But really tho it's a 2006 movie I think
I'm in love with the fact you give them shit for referencing Galactus and then reference Juggernaut a few minutes after
This movie makes me think they live in a post apocalyptic universe or a world where the supernatural is a reality and everything has gone to shit post WWIII. Or, this is purgatory.
I agree, I’ve seen a lot of people theorize that it’s on a whole different planet even! I believe the last shot shows like other planets/moons you obviously won’t see from earth. Another commenter said that it takes place on Mars, the red planet and the name of the roman god of war, hence all the red and insane fighting
@@Blueklima9708 they do say in the movie this movie takes place in the United States of 1982 or 1983
The end credits music was a black metal cover of John Cage's 4'33"
Nicholas Cage is honestly a great actor, he just took on some projects he really shouldn’t have.
I LOVED this movie. It feels very reminiscent or inspired by games like Doom and Dusk, and yes, i agree Cage’s acting in it is actually some of his best
I love, The book of heavy metal (The song that plays at 0:49) the song is by Dream Evil
This looks legit dope. It's the perfect amount of insanity. And Cage is perfect for this kind of role.
Elvis: Shows alien black cat with multiple eyes
Me: NightMind how did you get here?
that intro line about rocking while dead is the most metal thing i've ever heard
I loved the obscurity of the setting. That one off character.
And my God the color palette was👌👌👌👌
The Far Cry 5 movie looks amazing!
Came to the comments for the sole purpose of finding a Far Cry reference!
Im literally playing that game rn and this reference is so true this game is fucked up but satisfying
Idk if you've ever seen the movie Coraline. It's the closest thing I know of that's a kids horror movie. Great film and would like to hear u talk about it.
That fucking neck snap with the smile was one of the greatest kills in cinematic history...
This is my favorite movie of all time. Despite its flaws, it’s perfect in my eyes. Everything about it. I love the cinematography, the vibe, editing, gore, best movie in my opinion.
