Yellow Perch are the Northeast Shad. We dont have a lot of shad lakes, so the bass are VERY focused on the yellow perch patterns. Really changes a lot of the info you see about bass since yellow perch are not small or slow in winter like shad are.
In Muddy colored water- pearl is your best friend, not solid whites, not chartreuse… Pearl. It captures ANY light and gives off a big bright presence in the water that they can see. White can’t do that neither can chartreuse. If you have a brown / sand colored bottom from having a rock and sand bottom that MAKES the water LOOK a certain stain, but there’s a few feet of visibility, chartreuse and geeen pumpkin give off the most presence, as well as pearl. In green tanic- “still”water or sorta clear water the same applies but chartreuse can work in that kind of water so can whites but like you said they get a good look at it so maybe some transparent tones with a hint of chartreuse like a chart belly and black back but purple translucent mid section.. perfect color. -strobe shad- table rock shad types. But darker colors and pearl give off more of a presence, one gives a dark shade presence , one gives a bright bold presence.
I have two shad colors, 3-4 crawfish colors and 2 green colors. Don’t ask me names I can’t remember. A couple weeks ago I was throwing a red fire crawfish crank bait. I didn’t even get a bite. I swapped to a wild child crawfish red on top and chartreuse on the bottom. I got 7 fish over 3 lbs and 3 dinks. I threw something they had never seen before and it worked. Water temp was 58.
Actually I think that study indicated that bass cant distinguish between white and chartreuse (not yellow). I believe that study, but I still like chartreuse baits. TBO I think deep down I just like to collect all the pretty colors 🤷🏻♂️
I went a little overboard on crankbaits when I got into bass fishing so I have just about every Bass Pro Shops XPS last generation model cranks in squarebill and medium. They were all on sale for $2.97 during winter so I stocked up. I see now they have a new model thats $5.95 so I got lucky I guess! I got about 15 or more colors but the best ones so far are the metallic chrome/black back and xxx chrome shad which is a blue and chrome. Also normal gizzard shad thats matte white with a black back works really good. 😂 The normal basic ones work best of course. I never got any bites on the chartreuse/black back which shocked me.
Shad any and all times theres shad in the body of water but also clear to stained water in all waters. Bluegill where theres bluegill forage or the water is stained. Black back chartreuse in stained to dirty water. Muddy darker bluegill patterns or a black crank bait. Thats all you ever need. I actually have way way less bites or catches on red crankbaits. I spent years where the only underwater moving baits id throw was crankbaits and spinnerbaits. Cranks and spinnerbaits colors are the same for what works best imo.
As discussed, bass see yellows and chartreuse as shades of white. I think chartreuse in dirty water works, I do it, but probably a confidence thing, shad color probably work just as well in those conditions
Well covered! I use a Scotch Brite pad to remove the shine on new crankbaits, except for chrome finishes. I believe a matte finish is easier for a fish to see in the water. I can't believe you didn't mention the color pink. I don't get as many bites on pink but the quality of fish is great. I don't know what it is about a black & yellow color combo in the early spring, but fish attach it. Pike especially love it. I will say chartreuse in muddy water is the number one color for walleye in Lake Erie. It has worked so well in the 40+ years that I've fished it.
About the chard and muddy water. I allso think that it dosent mather for them to find the bait, but maybe it might help them hit the bait aws soon as they are close enough as they get that vision as well even if it's just for last 0.5 sec, but unless you get a camera on there to se if they hit/miss more/less with chard/firetigre and so on in muddy water or not.
I acually read on the front of one of my strike king bitty bugs that red is a color bass tend to hit quicker due to them thinking it’s a blood trail if I’m not mistaken?
Chartreuse and blue back they say clear to stained water the best but I haven't put it to the test yet but will especially since my water is get alittle stain to it now.

Absolutely, I just witnessed this myself this past fall, with the chartreuse crankbait. I mean every other cast I was getting nailed with that color.
I’m thinking someone knew fishermen would buy all colors if they were available and, in turn, make fishing way more expensive than it needs to be.
You are one thousand percent correct they are made to catch the fisherman the

Here in Michigan I throw bluegill cranks constantly. It seems like it's all they eat.
Same for me in Massachusetts. Bluegill colors and patterns work best for me ( clear water or zero visibility) they get bites
I live in Massachusetts and they hammer the bluegill pattern.
100% !!!

Btw most craw pattern cranks look like a bluegill in the water to the fish lol

I was fishing with a bluegill square bill and caught a monster crappie 🔥🎣🐠

Caught some pretty good sized Small Mouths on the KVD Fire Craw crankbait. Great video Tyler thanks bud 👍🏻

I've had the best luck throwing crappie color pattern sqaurebills.
Do you think a Lipless rat L trap would be too loud for cold water bass ?
Chartreuse and blue back they say clear to stained water the best but I haven't put it to the test yet but will especially since my water is get alittle stain to it now.
Great information
I live in Illinois and I fish a lake where I catch more bass on a bluegill crankbait. I’m not sure why.
U forgot rootbeer!!
What about bluegill color cream beats sunfish crank beats
I'm fascinated by what colors a Bass sees. They don't have a blue (eye) cone. So do they even see blue?
What about crankbait crappy
Nice imitation of a small bass moving his head side to side..
If you start growing gills, see your doctor.
