I switched to flap discs two years ago. Making steady smooth passes with light pressure is key to flap disc longevity and it doesn't heat the blade up as much. Concentrating in one area and heavy pressure chews up the flap disc and heats up that section of the blade. As a bonus, I've found the blade balances first try when you make the same number of passes on each side.

With a stone and my 5" Bosch grinder {it turns more slowly which means less heat ) I can sharpen blades on my mowers.. We run two 72" mowers and they need sharpening as we do the water ways in the fields with them . One 1535 John Deere diesel and a myride 6000 toro which I love, very smooth and fast.
40-60 grit flapper. Try a 3-M Cubitron grinding wheel, I use it to sharpen my lawn mower blades and my bushog blades .I can sharpen the my bushog blades 3 times and still have enough wheel left for my mower blades the whole season.
I just saw your video about trucks. I have owned several Ford's... They absolutely suck! I have also owned several Nissans Titans which has been the best truck I've ever owned. Absolutely one of the best trucks on the market. It's a shame they are being discontinued. I encourage you to check them out. Just go test drive. Do a video of your experience in the Nissan Titan.
If you really want to save your blades buy a good 220volt wire welder and use solid core welding wire with argon gas. Get a piece of copper or brass flat stock and clamp it to the worn part of the blade. If you have a rbg 1012c 1hp grinder you can make those blades like new again.
I’d be embarrassed for you to see my Kubota ZD331-60 blades. Mine are so dull by the time I take them off that the front edge looks almost like the back edge. I’m gonna have to try harder and I may try this sharpening tool. I have a large Dewalt electric grinder and now I can keep my angle fairly consistent because I lock in the elbows while holding the grinder and rock my body back and forth down the edge, taking care not to round off the end. But this tool definitely looks easier.

I initially ruled out flap discs but I got too many comments that they are the way to go, so I reassessed! Thanks for the support!
If you have thin blades that don't clamp you can pull off the holder by the handle and flip it the other way.
I don't think I understand what you are saying.
I do like the whole maintenance mode on that ZT...Very handy!

We love mowing (which is weird to some) and the look of a field with sharp versus dull blades is very evident!

For thinner blades, just unscrew the bottom of the blade holder flip it around & it should hold smaller width blades. I do mine when I need too
I will look at that but the block of wood works well too.
The key to flap wheels is light pressure. Less is more. That's opposite of a hard wheel.
I'm glad I switched....I think the blades will last longer.

You don't show that you balance the blades after sharpening ?
It's a good practice, but I've never balanced a blade in my life.
