    Alex, you know what I really liked about your review? It felt like you were speaking to us human to human and giving YOUR take on what the product is worth.
    Sooooo many review sites like Android Authority it just feels like a dispassionate run down of specs with a waterred down opinion like "one of the best among the choices that could maybe be what you're looking for..."
    or "Should definitely be among your choices"
    WTF does that tell me about how you like the device??
    So thanks for having a spine and telling us your honest opinion

    • @Sypnotix
      @Sypnotix  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      DreamLegendary I love Android Authority! They do things a certain way and I understand why they do that. But they've done an amazing job of expanding their reach over the years. Lida and I made Sypno Tech because we just couldn't find enough people that understood what the heck we were talking about in the real world. So instead of talking tech to people who didn't want to hear it, we just talk tech online! Luckily some of you actually want to hear us lol. We've been lucky. Thanks for watching.

    UPDATE:
    TH-cam cut out a portion of the audio as of last month due to a copyright claim. The background track which was a royalty-free one during the time of edit but apparently exclusive rights were purchased by an entity who then filed a claim a year later. Nothing we can do unfortunately.
    To sum up the rest of the cut audio, the keyboard is a good size but with slightly mushy keys. One of them even got stuck. Trackpad is terrific, one of the top 2 on the market(Apple Macbooks) The laptop is versatile for positioning and functionality and although logically it makes more sense to buy a Macbook for it's expanded applicational use, I found myself gravitating to this laptop and had no second thoughts paying that much for a chromebook even though I constantly wonder why I pay that much for a Macbook

      @MrDarren690 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sypno Tech Interesting that you say the Pixelbook keyboard is mushy! It’s one of the snappiest keyboards on a laptop I’ve used so far, and none of the keys have issues.
      The LED battery indicator can be activated by simply tapping the lid. If you must knock, don’t do it too hard!
      My main worry is heat. When pushing it, the laptop does get quite warm! It’s even more worrying when charging, since the entire chassis gets warm. Scary! But to be expected, considering passive cooling and fast charging.

    I think you have no regrets because Chrome OS is just such a joy to use. I bought my first chromebook, simply out of curiosity since I am a big time fan of Google. I had no intentions on using Chrome on the regular. Since then, the only computer I use at home is my Chromebook. The interface is so simple and the operation is so zippy.

    Once again another superb review. The time and thought you put into your reviews is refreshing. I particularly like the way you express your subjective feelings about devices. This is by far the most informative Pixelbook review I have seen or read and I try to catch all of them. Keep up the good work.

    Absolutely love mine. I switched from iPhone 7 and MacBook Pro to a Pixelbook and Pixel 2 XL. I work in copywriting and eCommerce and the only thing I've missed is Photoshop. I can pull out the MBP for the rare instances I need to edit graphics in depth, otherwise Canva does the job. It's thin, light, and the pen is a huge time saver for me as is Google Assistant. It's perfect for zoom meetings and webinars, and is fast to load and intuitive. I don't regret the switch a bit.

    I have this machine. The only thing that I think is REALLY CRAP is the choice of colors for they keyboard when combines with backlighting - try it - turn the backlighting on in daylight - you cannot read the keys AT ALL until you turn the backlight off. Should have been black lettering

    No problem using a Chromebook as main computer, but also no need as my phone does everything by streaming to my 32" TV, Anker Bluetooth key board, and a mouse. My Asus 10" tab with keyboard has been silent for a year, and my full size Laptops haven't been powered up in more than two years. Nice device, but crashes remind me of why I hate Windows since 1997.

    As someone who does not like google, I was very impressed with chrome OS. If the only thing that you do on your computer is use a web browser, it is very good for that. You do not have to worry about uninstalling bloatware or having the data collection take up all resources like windows. You do not have to worry about the price tag like mac if you buy a cheaper model. I think for people who do not do anything that requires programing, or video/image editing etc.., I think it is a great alternative. (I did not use a version of chrome os that had the play store, so I do not know what apps are available. If you know how to use linux, you can install crouton and that will allow you to program, and use other software you may need. That worked really well.)

  • @ColeJackson592

    The fact that a device this simplistic at such a ridiculous price point has so many avid fans of it absolutely staggers me. I'm somewhat of a power user, I run a gaming desktop at home mostly for play and I rock a 15' 2018 MacBook Pro as my work machine. I use the MacBook to edit video with Premiere Pro and Avid Media Composer, and I also use it to edit audio with Pro Tools. Sure, Chrome OS has its advantages. It still runs relatively well on lower spec devices, and it works great for simple internet usage. Chromebooks in and of themselves are fine, for the most part they're simply cheap laptops made for simple tasks. I'm actually typing this on a Chromebook right now, as a matter of fact. But I could not even begin to imagine spending $1000 on a device like the Pixelbook. I love Google and all, but the device just does not do enough to justify such a price tag. You'd be much better off getting literally any kind of Windows Laptop than you would the Pixelbook. It's just not worth the price tag.

It’s also only 350...and sometimes you can get it on sale for less than 300....cheaper chrome books are just as good in my opinion for those who want to save a buck....this machine is beautiful though and very fast

    I agree with other comments, you definitely have a "passion" within your videos, something that bigger more famous youtbuers tend to lack these days.
    I am exactly the same as you, I'm mixed bag with this laptop. I REALLLY want it to work and I try justify my self on the purchase, but I know deep down its idiotic to spend that much money on a Chromebook that still runs Android apps completely inefficiently, crashes, pen input lag, lack of large software applications, lack of ecosystem like iCloud integration etc.
    I think we have all just become so used to Mac OS and Windows that were sick of it, adleast for me - its why I love to use ChromeOS and its minimalist design with such a simple approach to computing. I love my 13" MacBook Pro but I would switch to the Chromebook Pixel if they could just get the software polished like Mac is, until then I'm sticking with Mac OS.

    Had mine for a year; I got it for $700 new. I love it and I hate it. I absolutely love the hardware, BUT, the software.. ugh. Bugs come with EVERY OS update. Many apps are very poorly optimized. Many apps have super-small font size and can not be changed. I've had to battle to get my money back if apps don't work on Pixelbook, which can be time-consuming. Some app developers do not prioritize optimizing for Pixelbook as it's a small percentage of their customers. I really want to love this more but, because of the severe lack of app optimization, I can't. Here's hoping it gets better, before I sell it and move on to Apple.

    I tried Pixelbook for almost a year and absolutely love the hardware, but... the software is why I can't stand it anymore.. the apps continue to lack optimization!! The Google Messages texting app WOULD be awesome, but, continuously intermittently goes into reconnecting mode and then often circles the drain in doing so and often just stays not connected, rendering the app completely dead/useless, (no matter how good WiFi service is). This is one illustration of what I mean. Also, some apps lose their functions in tablet mode and/or are glitchy/jumpy/not smooth but, some are rendered absolutely useless in tablet mode. So, though I gave it almost a year test drive, I can't deal with the awful software severe lack of optimization. What a shame! Apart from the awful software, I love this device's hardware--a lot. ugh... too bad.

      Depends a lot purpose of your main computer. If you are using few different manufacturer's digital camera (getting picture, automatic renaming, editing), GoPro (getting videos/pics, editing), gaming, printing,... It is hard or not very convenient to use only Chromebook. You might be able to come up with some workarounds, but you feel you are losing all the time compared to real windows.
      I think ChromeOS (Android apps in it) are in same battle as Android, IOS and Windows Phone was. Developers did not had time/recourses/interest to support Windows Phone apps. So when we really get to point where Windows, MAC & ChromeOS (with Android Apps or something else) would be in in "same line"?
      I have ASUS C302 Chromebook and it is really good for it price, but I still depend on Windows machine.

      No. I'm getting into coding and music productions where MacBooks rule. I don't think the pixel book is really worth it, just because of chrome os. Yes it has good specs but it's incredibly overpowered for what it is running. You can run chrome os on a laptop with 1 gb RAM and 16 GB storage without it lagging EVER. The main selling point is the Android part, but there are others that do the same thing for WAYY less. I really would go to the Samsung Chromebook pro because it is more worth it.

    Is the Chromebook efficiency due to its low storage of 128Gb?

    • @NaztyNapkinz
      @NaztyNapkinz 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's chrome os most of their storage is cloud. So the 128gb is actually overkill but you can get 256gb i5. Or you can get i7 256gb with 16gb of ram. However like I said all that is unnecessary.

      I use my PixelBook for work and play. I modified my Chrome OS build to include every Linux CLI application and service that I require to use it as a DEV system. This includes things like; Apache, MySQL, PHP, Python, GCC, Ruby, Docker, KVM (virtual machine), etc.
      I use CodeEnvy as my IDE, it's a cloud based application and works wonderfully for my needs. Especially when used with Eclipse CHE, an application that creates a Docker module, that further creates a local DEV space for CodeEnvy to work in. I use Docker for all of my services, Apache, MySQL, etc. This allows more control as well puts these services into a secure container and memory space. In fact those who are web application developers would benefit alot from a ChromeBook, just install Docker and you'll have everything at your finger tips required to get your work done, everything! You can even install Docker in an Android app called Termux for those who don't want to modify their Chrome OS sub-system.
      All in all I have to say that I'm impressed with this PixelBook. Especially after all of the negative review's. After which I came to the conclusion that none of these reviews or comments were from people who have either never used a ChromeBook before, doesn't know how to use one properly or are just looking it at as a glorified browser and don't understand that ChromeOS is a Linux system. Meaning it can be used for simple tasks or the most complicated, depending on the wishes of the user.
      If you are a Linux/Unix guru like myself, this is a must have.

    It's been just over a year of having a Pixelbook and, sadly, the PIxelbook did NOT fair as well at all and Google support was AWFUL. The monitor got several dead pixels and I got a replacement from Google under warranty, BUT the replacement had the EXACT same thing happen only several weeks later, which was at that point, only several weeks out of warranty. Google support, (even on supervisor level), were apathetic and basically showed NO loyalty towards me so, guess what, I can take my loyalty elsewhere, and I will do exactly just that. Apps proved to be VERY poorly optimized as well, at times, apps just would not work at all. I spent a lot of money on this Pixelbook and, well, what an AWFUL overall experience from the hardware failures, very poor Google support, to apps that run poorly, or not at all. Likely NEVER again. [PS: if anyone has any questions about dead pixels, run a black screen test video and that's where the broken pixels on the monitor are revealed]

    Whole point of going Chrome is to get off Windows, with its endless booting/re-booting, blue screen of death, renting software, anti-virus, etc etc etc. Freakin' maintenance. This is the best browsing experience out there period. For the couple of percent I can't do on this, I've still got the old coal-fired Windows machine.

      It may be the most stable version of Windows so far but that doesn't make it great and I don't believe it will ever be. It's an operating system from another era that is gradually being phased out as technology advances.

      Exactly why I liked the ChromeBook Pixel more than this. By focusing only on Chrome, it was an incredible machine. The PixelBook makes a lot of compromises to support Android. One of those compromises is the giant bezel needed to hold it while in tablet mode.

      It can do basic photo touchups, and spreadsheets via Google Sheets. But if you are trying to do heavier things than the average person, of course you're going to need something more than what the average person needs. That shouldn't surprise you.

    • @Baes_Theorem

    • @ThomasHenryHoran
      @ThomasHenryHoran 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends on what you mean by "do heavy video editing." If you use a cloud-based app, like Creative Cloud (and there are others, now,) then yes, because you only need a puter/Chromebook for the user interface. The host computer does all the actual chewing. There ARE some decent video clip editing apps for Android, like Action director, and I use an Android app called Audio Evolution for editing music and podcasts. For making quick "How To" Videos for my students, based on screen video captures, I use Loom Chrome OS app.
