I would love to see her make it her mission, if possible, to combat the stigma surrounding mental illness in Japan. Mental illness has such a profound impact on society and must be faced like any other illness, less it lead to tragedy.
what a lovely couple. i feel bad about the high expectations and restrictions regarding the japanese royal family tho and issues of heirs and whatnot. empress masako seem very poised and elegant. i love the way the royal couple sat face to face with their people. such mutual respect and reverence between royal family and subjects.
My Japanese mother in the past talked about most people in Japan felt sorry for Masako for the longest time. "She is our Princess Diana. A strong woman who was connected to the people and wanted to do great things in her own right...but the royal family decided to mentally beat her to submission."
She has been embarrassed for many years because of the failure to give a birth to a son. Japan should change the law to allow a female heir to take the Chrysanthemum Throne. Without presence of a royal concubine, it is not realistic to limit a heir of it to only a male. I wont to see a future wife of the last male heir suffer from the same fate as hers.
it is because of stupid us always interfere with other country's law and rule. waay back then, ancient times, there were head empress. but because us girl are not allowed to succeed anymore.
Reigen Lucilfer The 1947 imperial household law was passed at he last session of Imperial diet. The law which defined that a male heir only can succeed the throne was passed relatively recently. The law was largely influenced by Prussian law system and assumes that there was an implicit agreement, which prioritize a paternal bloodline, in past successions. The fact is that Youro-Ritsuryo, an effective law before modernization just specifies a descendant of an emperor, who was not given a family name, can succeed it. So, a female heir was not prevented from succeeding it. There were actually many empress. One empress called Jingu-Kogo was not regarded as empress now. But she was apparently gave a birth to a male heir after her husband, the previous emperor was killed hundreds of days ago. The modern Japanese history denied her enthronement. But, her boy was not able to be called one in the paternal line. So, the early Japan did not prevent a female heir from taking the throne.
I love it thats cool history i love amaterasu story Especially i really interested in japanese mythology such as the god and the goddess,ghost/spirit, etc
@J M That why it was called a Mythology, other countries also had a similar myth but the difference was japan imperial family that hold the myth countinue preside as symbol of japan like they always do throughout most of their history
@@bluesky-pb9di because It was ancient mythology, Japanese Monarchy was one of the oldest surviving in the world. Even if not world at least in asian. The reliable historiographical evidence could at least be trace back from the 6th century while traditionally they claimed from 3rd century. I mean all ancient monarchy have some kind of myth going around them, especially since Japan ancient myth and beliefs system continue to exist as part of culture. During the world war 2 the goverment used it in education as a form of propaganda to keep the loyalty of citizen bur nowadays modern Japanese is non believer of religious. While they believe the existence of god they have no religion, Shinto was nothing more than culture🤔. Sorry, I am getting excited explaining.😅 but you know you are right, Korean ancient founding king had a myth of son of a bear and god. The bear became woman if i am not mistaken.🤔😑

As far as i know, only one Japanese Empress was allowed to make a DNA test and confirmed to be Korean descent while other tomb of Japanese Emperor was not allowed to study. I wish all the best and hope people will learn the true ways to live, wherever they are whatever their background.
She would be a hero if she ran a nation wide massive campaign through all the prefectures towns and islands about why mental health care is something that you shouldn’t be ashamed of or feel bad about going. Everyone needs a little help sometimes.
But she didn't and I suppose she won't. Instead she has chosen to visit hospitals, nursing homes or supporting groups and talks with the locals side by side. Many said they got confident to be heard by a person who has struggled together in a same manner with them, and got empowered. She is compassionate in her own way.
Talk about a stark contrast between the Prince of Wales and the Japanese Emperor. Both had wives who suffered mental illness, yet despite society and Royal expectations the Emperor stood by his Empress. Yet Prince Charles could not have cared less how much his wife suffered, as long as he got his heir and spare.
Charles didn’t force Diana to marry him. And Diane has not been a career woman with any sort of accomplishments. Anyway the emperor destroyed her life. The least he could do was being decent to her. He didn’t have to of course. But should she be grateful just for that?
The Emperor's only child, Aiko. Her parents are the multi-lingual Emperor and Empress. The Empress was a former diplomat. They live modestly. They are the pride of Japan. What do you think of everyone in the world ? Aiko is the emperor's only child, but she cannot be the emperor. The reason is that, according to the rules of the Imperial Family, it is a male succession. The Empress, who was unable to give birth to a boy, was blamed within the Imperial Family and is still in poor health. How can there be such inequality in this day and age? I want Aiko to be emperor.
I too think that being an empress will actually fulfill her much more bcse I guess she now has more latitude of operation. I think her upbringing and personal accomplishments pre- marriage didn't square in spending 2.5 decades performing ceremonial roles and abiding by millennial rules and customs.
I hope Japan will still amend its royal succession laws to allow heiresses to take the throne. It's utterly ridiculous to allow so much talent to go to waste.
BBC's insolence toward Japanese culture sometimes may be derived from envy. I noticed it when once I saw BBC reported japanese Shinkansen(bullet train) and MAGLEV. The new emperor and empress both have experience of studying at Oxford but BBC wants to disregard it.
I say they should have went ahead and changed Japanese law to allow the first born man or woman to inherit lot of problems down the road and take a lot of strain off of women who become the empress
I feel very bad for her, she’s obviously very intelligent and has had to change her destiny to be with the man she loves. I hope she can get out of the shackles of the imperial system and regain some of her confidence!
Masko Never did Love Her husband! She was forced into Her marriage by an Ultimatem: Marry the Prince or we will execute your family. Read the book that is Banned in Japan!
Disney princess fantasy… no he is shorter than her. She is way more accomplished than him. She had to give up her way of life and freedom by force. Omg. Yes she is cool. But it’s so sad. She became only a brooding mare instead of achieving using her brain cells.
Did she really love him though? She didn't want to be married. Allegedly, she was forced into the marriage. Some suspect her family could've been ostracized or there was something to gain from this marriage for her father. Either way, the pressure on this woman broke her
Im the old Imperial Japan, brothers would be killing brothers just to take the throne. Im really glad all surviving monarchy in the whole world are now more civilized when it comes to inheritance
To those who are confused why the Japanese Imperial Family is the oldest continuing royal dynasty, here's why: The bloodline the started from Antiquity (around 660 BC) all the way up to the Present was never broken. But if you are familiar with Japanese history, there was period in time from 530AD until 1867 called the Warring States period where the Samurai and Shoguns (feudal warlords) engaged in constant warfare for power and territorial control. This is similar to Medieval Europe. During this period, the role of the Emperor never ceased, but rather power and control over the country was being absorbed by the Shogun. The Samurai and Shogunate came to an end during the Meiji Restoration in the late 1800's and full power was returned to the Emperor and the Imperial family. This is what you usually see in popular Samurai movies ☺
I’m glad she has a chance to use those skill she developed, what a symbol of self sacrifice! It’s incredibly outdated and frustrating that women are expected to give up their careers in favour for child rearing, and i guess joining the imperial family just quadruples that pressure, so of course i dont blame her making that choice, but i am happy that she has a chance to use those skills, and I hope she finds fulfilment in her new role.
Once Miss Masako was in Tokyo a modern metropolitan. She got married into the Palace . A Royal family from ancient time and still holding on to ancient tradition requiring a male heir . Wake up! All this nonsense is killing her. This is modern era. Change and have a female heir. Elizabeth II is a female and a wonderful Queen! GOD SAVE THE QUEEN.
"... let three virtues adorn you in a particular way: humility, purity of intention and love." (from the Diary of Saint Faustina Kowalska; partial record 1979)
別に全然ネガティブに感じないと思うけど。事実を伝えているだけ。最後もポジティブなコメントで終わってる。新しい、今までなかったような人がこれから輝き続ける、ていう感じのニュアンス。 It’s FACTUAL TRUTH that women in Japanese society are burdened with traditional, and often sexist expectations. As someone who was born and raised in Tokyo, I don’t see this as anything “negative” it’s just the “truth.” I’m sorry that the truth is so upsetting, maybe that’s something that can change in the coming generations.
It refreshing to discover other royalties around the world. Because of the super-media coverage of the British monarchy we may tend to believe they are the only one still in existence.
Malaysian Queen often exchange letters with Japan's empress to give her encouragement and support. Because she knew very well the pressure of being married to the royal heir but unable to give birth for the next heir.
Masako is so stylish. It must have been an incredible shock to her to have to greet that oaf Trump. I am quite sure she would have a few choice English words for him.
Well at least her husband doesn’t cheat on her and take in a second wife to give him a son. She might not be bless with son but she is bless with loyal husband husband.
@@wixoss9893 Yes Thank you now if you could make the rest of the world understand it. Its the hubby fault not masako. I am rooting for the princess to be just as smart and lovely as her mom.
Let's be honest. She did not really want to marry him, but was pressured to marry him She is way more intelligent than any of the men in the family. She had ambitions, drive and spunk to get the education for the career she chose. What happened? Age old story, royal wants want he wants and her life is destroyed. Before, a royal could simply take a woman by force, and that was that. Now they still resort to social and family pressures to force a woman to give up her career, her personhood to live a chained life of Empress with outdated and sexist traditions which do not apply at all to the modern world. And worse yet, her baby was a girl. Big Failure right there. She never looked happy from the beginning , her smile never reached her eyes, and I truly think resignation is not the same as fulfilment. Her Soul Sparkle has been firmly ground down and my Heart aches. If you go back and watch , none of her friends were happy about the arrangement. She had to give up everything, what did he give up for her? Nothing. He got what he wanted except a son, and she has paid for that I am sure of. Am I being Harsh? Truth is not always pleasant folks. Just a realist taking note of one more tragedy due to male superiority Mind Set.

Empress Masako went to elementary in New York City at Public School 81 in the Riverdale neighborhood. Her English language skills are flawless!
Empress Masako has no problem speaking English. She went to Harvard University.

I always feel sorry for this nice woman - she got so much under pressure that she had got a depression , stopped talking and stayed behind the palaces walls for years ...
Her husband always has been at her side - and I hope she is now strong and secure enough to fulfil her role ... Good luck and strength , Your Majesty !! 🌹
With love from Germany !! 💟
But who caused her depression? Because he asked her to marry him. He was the root of the problem.
To be honest both Masako and her mother in law (the dowager empress) were kinda forced into the marriage because the other guy was a crown prince. Imaging what an excellent diplomat she could've been.
Exactly. It wasn’t a fairy tale. It was a nightmare for her. An intelligent career woman locked in a cage. And could possibly have been asked to give up someone she loved before marrying the prince. Who is hardly the catch physically and not to mention the baggage he represents
Since the Empress's marriage to the Emperor, he has had a tough daily life such as poor physical condition, but the smile of “Imperial Thanks” is refreshed and softened.🙌😄😌🎌👑
I would love to see her make it her mission, if possible, to combat the stigma surrounding mental illness in Japan. Mental illness has such a profound impact on society and must be faced like any other illness, less it lead to tragedy.
The nail that sticks up gets hammered down. People who have serious mental illness in Japan are crushed like stamping out a cockroach.
I love Masako she kind and lovely at least her husband stood to her
I find Her Majesty so beautiful. She's not the generic Japanese beauty, she is more like of a Southeast Asian kind of features to me. So cute!
what a lovely couple. i feel bad about the high expectations and restrictions regarding the japanese royal family tho and issues of heirs and whatnot. empress masako seem very poised and elegant. i love the way the royal couple sat face to face with their people. such mutual respect and reverence between royal family and subjects.
Soo cute. Love Empress.
We love her. We support her.
My Japanese mother in the past talked about most people in Japan felt sorry for Masako for the longest time. "She is our Princess Diana. A strong woman who was connected to the people and wanted to do great things in her own right...but the royal family decided to mentally beat her to submission."
HitomiNoRyu 😞😞
Before reading your comment, I was about to say that she reminds me of Princess Diana for reasons I can't explain.
Difference is at least her husband didn't abandon her like Charles did
Or that she isn't hounded by the press to the point of directly causing her death in a car crash.
The difference is that Empress Masako’s husband really loves her.
If they think women can’t rule than why is Queen Elizabeth so love by her county and people all around the world?
@@moonlightpaw5868 It's far more complicated than that because it involves the Shinto religion.

Especially i really interested in japanese mythology such as the god and the goddess,ghost/spirit, etc
@J M That why it was called a Mythology, other countries also had a similar myth but the difference was japan imperial family that hold the myth countinue preside as symbol of japan like they always do throughout most of their history
No they were humans. Not gods or goddesses. 🤔😑😲😆😆😆 asian cultures strange and boring.
@D S Where is the source of the DNA study ? As far as i know, only one Japanese Empress was allowed to make a DNA test and confirmed to be Korean descent while other tomb of Japanese Emperor was not allowed to study. There were only a theory about Japanese Emperor descent from a nobility in Korean peninsular.
I wish all the best and hope people will learn the true ways to live, wherever they are whatever their background.
Empress Masako is so intelligent and beautiful.
Modest and decent Empress Masako :)
They are a lovely couple. I know my Princess Masako will be the best royal.

Like mother like daughter Empress ,Eve is proud of you .
I too think that being an empress will actually fulfill her much more bcse I guess she now has more latitude of operation. I think her upbringing and personal accomplishments pre- marriage didn't square in spending 2.5 decades performing ceremonial roles and abiding by millennial rules and customs.

Empress Masako is a graceful and beautiful.
She is beautiful
Thank you.
Many Japanese respect the current Emperor and strongly hope that his eldest daughter, Her Imperial Highness Princess Aiko, will succeed to the throne.
I hope Japan will still amend its royal succession laws to allow heiresses to take the throne. It's utterly ridiculous to allow so much talent to go to waste.
Agreed
Her daughter should inherit the throne. Not the cousin. So weird that they're still following this sexist rule.

So sorry she had to give up her career, especially because it affected her so much. Good to know she is better now.

Seems to me that the pressure of marrying and losing everything that made her who she was caused her pain and suffering. I feel sorry for her.
She has the best quality as an empress
