I'm impressed that the original speedometer still works. Mines an 06, but my 03 was yellow and received a lot of attention with really nice skull artwork throughout.
The stock speedos are notorious but I think the reason is the gasket that comes loose and the incoming water makes them go bad. I bought this from a guy who looked like it stayed in the garage unless it was a nice day to ride. Knowing that I ride frequently enough to get caught in the rain made me seal it up the way I did. and no issues
The short answer is no, with or sans the belt guard. The belt guard was removed initially because it was too close to the belt itself for my peace of mind. I then re-purposed the holes for a side-facing license plate.

well, more like 30g's new but at the point, who's even counting, I did fetch almost 9 for it only because I kept it in such pristine condition
