Take a time machine back to the 90's. "In the next update to the Unreal Engine we are implementing volumetric fog. Any developer can incorporate this into their level or game."
Kickstarters are for niche things that wouldn't be approved in funding because of not being sure that there is an audience and therefor too risky for companies to go for. If they say the opposite you know it's going to be fail.
There definietly needs to be some checks done before a project can go into kickstarter, and one of them should be a reality check by engineers to make sure that it is something that is completable.
I remember being 18-20, wanting to dev some game, and my ambition was "I'll make a game where you can do anything!" And had someone immediately tell me it's not feasible and it's a bad idea. I fear a timeline where I could've been some goon featured in these videos.
I bought three double-glazed windows for my house and it cost more than seven grand. Three windows. And they think they can make an MMORPG for this price?? Complete insanity.
I could put that much content together in a few days , especially with asset store assets. Lets see, blacksmith medieval assets, a 1st/3rd person character controller (how about invector), some skyboxes, a volumetric cloud/fog asset, Gaia, cts, cinemachine, thats a pretty good start for atleast 60% of what i saw in that video.
This has got DreamWorldesque stench on it. They did a meet the team bit on their now cancelled kickstarter, and it pretty much amounted to hi im "insert name" and I like making video games. Half the team couldn't even be contacted for comment. If these aren't scammers they're delusional to the extent of needing incarceration for their own well being.
Seems like they have updated some things, there is a FAQ now which... doesn't really say much. They removed most of the "publishers don't want to make this" stuff. Also according to them the goal is so low because both "it's mostly personal funding that we use" and "Kickstarter told us to put it low so there can be organic growht" I can't really see this one working out.
I always wonder when a Kickstarter for an MMO asks for mere thousands if it's a scam, or the developers are delusional about the actual costs of making such a complex game.
Good points. I enjoy your no-nonsense analysis of these Kickstarter cash-grabs. I almost fell for chronicles of Elyria, but I credit your videos with more intrinsic value than most others. Also, good analysis of the bar being low. It makes a good point as to why these need to be scrutinized. You could be funding a forever alpha.
Took 6 years and hundreds of people to make Guild wars 2 (last MMO i played). If the people who are clamouring to support these 'things' have never played it, they too are incompetent. Can easily get thousands of hours out of it. Heck you can even play it as a single player RPG and still get a shit load of a good time out of it.
Kira, have you seen their response to your video on their original kickstarter page? They have even updated their FAQ in response to your video is well. I'm with you on this however regardless of whether it is legit or not it's great you are bringing awareness, especially in the current state of the world with employment/business.
The way this is written, it sounds to me like they DID go to publishers, either with this idea or another one, and are bitter that their half-baked game was rejected. It's clear they have a chip on their shoulder. The fact that they used the "Risks" section of the Kickstarter to complain that other people had no faith in them but THEY are certain they'll succeed is really telling. Edit: @KiraTV I just went to look at the project itself on Kickstarter and it looks like most of the text you're reading on this video has been changed or deleted outright.
I did take a peak into both this and Dreamworlds Discords and noticed one large difference. The Devs actually seem to be answering questions in Project Steel's Discord where Dreamworld would provide you a fluff answer and then you get banned.

here's what i found so far ( my pack knowledge is limited to the time i spent using unity in college but heres what i picked up on ) 7:33 that's the basic crafting pug in green outline and all (most asets look like defult ones so far) 7:41 im about 80% shure that castle is from the free "medieval" pack 7:47 the statue and the house look out of place this is a comern ishue when using basic pack asets that staue is suspisously simular to the base rome pack one visual glitch on door at 7:58 ish same bug again on trees at 8:01 ish those houses defiantly are packed, the textures around them are glitching (standard ishue) im not saying they couldnt have made them but i find this very unlucky given they look out of place and the lighting on them is lighting that looks like it comes with a aset pack (imo) 8:11 thats a wagon aset ive seen it with that exact combo. 8:17 the lantern is most likely custom here but it annoys me the weird way they just plonked a spotlight light down on the spot so that the lantern is kinda pointless and obscured 8:22 base pack furniture like standard comes with unity stuff not even trying to hide that one, looks like they used the "wood/oak" texture on it to change it slightly but that's about it 8:26 reminds me of a demo level, forest basic if i remeber corectly even has the dear, but tbh i could plonk a bunch of trees down and it would look fairly similar so its a little hard to say on this one. 8:30 those mountains look awful like i you just randomly plonked down rocks/ used the u4 pack our college used that paints landcapes for you by just being kinda random.(maybe it was a tool idk we had a big aset pack list) 8:40 heres the thing, you have very basic landcapes like the basic very clearly made forest annd then you have the very stand out houses and hourse that are so blatently difrent it hurts, yeh thats another aset (or theres mulple devs with veryvery difrent skill levels) but asets is more likely wayyyyy more likely, i mean the animation on the hourse is so nice like too nice compared to other things like the combat and the god aweful basic environment and its ai is jank/ the aset is buggy ? 8:51 another visual bug behind the house and campire aset 100% to me it looks like they made the environment, the bandits and not much else, plonked some house and other assets down and called it a day. (there are a lot of lighting issues, bugs and imo too much of a stand out difference between the environment and asets) so these people are very likely new very new at u4 there's a lot of cliping on textures, there breaf even sounds like they are teens who dont know better imo. if im wrong il admit my fault and humbly say "hey my bad im sorry" but even as someone who did A WEEK in u4 i was taught tells to things like assets one of witch was how mutch a modle stands out in the world, those houses could be modles but i find it unlikely given how mutch they stand out from the basic environment. (sorry for any spelling/gramor ishues im disabled and try my best) no faq screams of inexperience and "man the man is bad pc gamers" screams teens (imo) youve even got the lazy attude of teens this doesn't seem like a scam this seems like inexperience to me so far from what ive seen.

If I was serious about taking this path to get a game created, I'd hire u as a consultant, it'd save everyone a lot of headaches and they'd know if their dream was even viable. Thanks again for ur content
Thanks man , I'm down if people want to pay me
@@KiraTV1 I know u are very busy, I very much appreciate that u took the time to reply, thank u very much, and much success
Thanks man ! Hope you're well
Take a time machine back to the 90's.

Caspian was had by the balls when Age of Empires released in 1997.
I remember being 18-20, wanting to dev some game, and my ambition was "I'll make a game where you can do anything!" And had someone immediately tell me it's not feasible and it's a bad idea. I fear a timeline where I could've been some goon featured in these videos.
"that horse is on ketamine" brilliant.
Not to worry, the goal is now set to $10,000. Order has been restored to the galaxy.
Jar Jar did it again!
"the Horse has lost its mind - it's had too much Ketamine!" hahahah XD
Looked more like not enough to me :D
The website is something you can easily make in an HTML class... as in a single day can easily be made.
3:05 an unironic "u fockin' wot?" thanks Kira
😄
Bro I’m glad you call people out so many people get away with shit and blame others. Glad your making them accountablen
Alright this is the second video of yours I've watched and I feel like Brazilian fart porn is a staple in your life
Congrats on 50k my friend! 🙏🙏🍻
"If you can imagine it, you can do it. No." me irl
They're asking for a total of $7000, but the biggest pledge was $5000 alone. WTF?!
Kira, have you seen their response to your video on their original kickstarter page? They have even updated their FAQ in response to your video is well. I'm with you on this however regardless of whether it is legit or not it's great you are bringing awareness, especially in the current state of the world with employment/business.
I have yeah , they were also in my discord and pinged me about it
Should crowd funding sites require some sort of insurance, or a level of escrow?
It does have "steal" in the name lol.
Nice, algorithm.
Top man
Caspian when he sees they have fog😳😲😨and then " We're excited to offer brand new exclusive plots of land in KoE for the one-time price of $7,000."
Thanks for your hard work Kira!
I love your coverage of crowd funded game development I just looked up "Project Steel" on Kickstarted and it looks like they raised their goal to $250,000. Unfortunately, they only raised $902. The campaign ended July 21, 2021. Sad. Looking at their Facebook posts, their last three posts had a total of 4 likes. Glad I subbed to your channel. This is fascinating stuff.
here's what i found so far ( my pack knowledge is limited to the time i spent using unity in college but heres what i picked up on )
7:33 that's the basic crafting pug in green outline and all
(most asets look like defult ones so far)
7:41 im about 80% shure that castle is from the free "medieval" pack
7:47 the statue and the house look out of place this is a comern ishue when using basic pack asets that staue is suspisously simular to the base rome pack one
visual glitch on door at 7:58 ish
same bug again on trees at 8:01 ish
those houses defiantly are packed, the textures around them are glitching (standard ishue) im not saying they couldnt have made them but i find this very unlucky given they look out of place and the lighting on them is lighting that looks like it comes with a aset pack (imo)
8:11 thats a wagon aset ive seen it with that exact combo.
8:17 the lantern is most likely custom here but it annoys me the weird way they just plonked a spotlight light down on the spot so that the lantern is kinda pointless and obscured
8:22 base pack furniture like standard comes with unity stuff not even trying to hide that one, looks like they used the "wood/oak" texture on it to change it slightly but that's about it
8:26 reminds me of a demo level, forest basic if i remeber corectly even has the dear, but tbh i could plonk a bunch of trees down and it would look fairly similar so its a little hard to say on this one.
8:30 those mountains look awful like i you just randomly plonked down rocks/ used the u4 pack our college used that paints landcapes for you by just being kinda random.(maybe it was a tool idk we had a big aset pack list)
8:40 heres the thing, you have very basic landcapes like the basic very clearly made forest annd then you have the very stand out houses and hourse that are so blatently difrent it hurts, yeh thats another aset (or theres mulple devs with veryvery difrent skill levels) but asets is more likely wayyyyy more likely, i mean the animation on the hourse is so nice like too nice compared to other things like the combat and the god aweful basic environment and its ai is jank/ the aset is buggy ?
8:51 another visual bug behind the house and campire aset 100%
to me it looks like they made the environment, the bandits and not much else, plonked some house and other assets down and called it a day.
(there are a lot of lighting issues, bugs and imo too much of a stand out difference between the environment and asets)
so these people are very likely new very new at u4 there's a lot of cliping on textures, there breaf even sounds like they are teens who dont know better imo.
if im wrong il admit my fault and humbly say "hey my bad im sorry" but even as someone who did A WEEK in u4 i was taught tells to things like assets one of witch was how mutch a modle stands out in the world, those houses could be modles but i find it unlikely given how mutch they stand out from the basic environment. (sorry for any spelling/gramor ishues im disabled and try my best)
no faq screams of inexperience and "man the man is bad pc gamers" screams teens (imo) youve even got the lazy attude of teens
this doesn't seem like a scam this seems like inexperience to me so far from what ive seen.
1:12 *"Lets make it real"* Haha oh boy. Thats a good sign. (Sarcasm)
I'm gonna try my best to make my dream game and release it for free.
Not going to lie, I am always waiting for you to drop the 'Caspian' or the 'Fog'.
The Bandits actually look like the belong in Fable lmao
I guess you could say this is a real steal...
HA got em
Nisuu! Lol..
All these projects sound like my buddy whos always coming up with "ideas", I've told him countless time to come up with a business plan then we can talk.
