@@mousermind Recorded speed is 68 to 80mph while the fastest reliable recorded speed was 61. Thats a different messurung them hunting is quite hard because the animales move so the cheetah has to do. You actualy would have found this if you just dug a lil deeper.
Actually fun fact, a cheetah is the definition of a specialty hunter who lacks their specialised prey, they thrived off of a type of antelope who just like them was more of a burst runner capable of blinding speeds over a short duration, ironically they're one of the reasons that antelope is now extinct(that and being a burst runner as a prey item is just a really dumb evolutionary choice.) They'll go extinct even without our interference(in the sense that they'll evolve out of their current niche in a couple dozen generations) it's really only a matter of time
generalists are always superior its how big cats pushed out canines as the dominant large land predator in the first place, and i agree as cheetahs have reached their peak optima and the specialized prey isnt thriving they would naturally faze out. before nature starts over and things get weird again.
Fun fact: Cheetahs pretty much suck at everything. Yes, they are fast, but they also run out of energy way too fast for it too really mean anything. Often times when they catch their prey and kill it, they're too tired to stop other things from walking up and just taking it, and since they're tired, they're not going to fight so they just flee and burn all the energy for nothing.
