I agree with you. The family portrait in his car shows that this MV is a nostalgic story of his parents' warm & beautiful relationship (backwards). They're the same parents in "Return" MV. The little boy here is Seung Gi. I think the car is his father's car (he rode the same car when he met her for the first time). He's smiling in the end, because his parents found each other; thus he's born and raised up in this beautiful loving family.
the nostalgia! The years have passed and this song still touches my heart all the same. Made me really tear up. I've come back to reminisce after nct doyoung performed a tribute to lee seungi on the latest episode of master in the house.
Continuation from return mv. He exited the door and found a small boy. His mother is the girl that SG liked. After SG left, she ended up with another man and had a son. The last scene shows the first meeting of her and the husband. The guy changed from SG and back to the actual husband which shows how much SG wished he was the husband. But nonetheless, he was still happy for her because he kept smiling when looking at them.
This is just my opinion >< Anyway, how cute was SG with the boy~ ^^

but in the return mv, the girl called the boy Seung gi. I assume that LSG was a ghost of the boy. and he fell in love with the boy's girl. this may sound absurd though

I think the story of return was the story of LeeSeunggi in high school. He has a gf in highschool who played music with him together. LSG were in a band and he was popular. I think he said goodbye to his gf when he was scouted by his mentor coz he need to pursue his singing
From what I understand the girl just left him, #LeeSeungGi explained this in one of his variety shows to Han Hyo Joo😊
되돌리다를 보면 마지막에 전학을 갈때 부모님이 자동차 옆에서 기다리고 있는데 바로 숲에 두 분이심 이 뮤비가 부모님 이야기가 아니라고 생각하는 분들이 있는것 같은데 부모님 이야기 맞아요. ㅋ
(원래) 현재에서 되돌리다로 갈때에는 과거로 갔지만 숲으로 올땐 현재가 아닌 더 과거로 돌아가서 부모님 결혼 이야기 담는 노래 뮤비 할수 있겠죠

No, this is the little girl from return MV. He return to the futur to where that girl (his first love is) and he found her married with a 5 years old kid, then as he follows the little kid, he sees (backward like moving from futur to past) that girl's life, from pregnant to her wedding to the day he proposed to their first meeting (her and her current husband who isn't LSG) LSG says through that scene in the car that it could have been him instead of that man. The last scene where he sits alone and they are together shows that he's happy for her, though he still loves her.
