    It just goes to show that every detail the player finds is carefully crafted with time and precision. It's an art.

    I often find myself stopping in 3-d / 3rd person games to appreciate the details in assets and environment. The Last of us series especially. The fact that indie devs like you are doing this work alone is crazy. You can see the passion in your work pays off! Great stuff as always.

      People like yourself are the reason I put so much care into each asset, I'm the exact same when playing games so it's rewarding when people notice

    Was expecting the player to pop out of one of the carts and then take that guy down there at the end

    Looks good... although I doubt you'd see an item like that be that high-poly even on the PS2.

    • @AaronMYoung
      @AaronMYoung  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey thanks! Actually the final model is within the scope of PS1 triangle count. Here I compare a car model from silent hill 1 imgur.com/l8SRxp7 it has a whopping 290 triangles! and my laundry cart has 276 triangles. you can inspect my model on sketchfab too - skfb.ly/oKDRT
      it's a common misconception that PS1 models have the lowest amount of polys possible when in actuality that's not true. Look at this screenshot of Nightmare Creatures 2. -imgur.com/a/BDOxAYl

    Amazing stuff dude this stuff is incredible! I'd love to make some stuff like this myself quick question. How do you create such good textures?! Where do you get these textures, for example: the laundry texture. Is there a good cc0 place for those kinds of textures? And I saw in another video of yours how you easily just draw on some blood splats and it looks so good! how to you make the red just suddenly look so much like old blood? You also add really good dirt and weathering and I would love to emulate that effect! I'm a huge fan of your art its amazing so sorry if I send more comments like this would just love to learn to make this art style :)

    • @AaronMYoung
      @AaronMYoung  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey thanks! so I get what I call "Reference Textures" pretty much anywhere, some off google, some images I have taken myself or some from Free to use websites. I only see them as a base/reference to work from and I always edit them enough to make sure it doesn't resemble the original image. I paint a lot of details or add overlays and grunge effects. When weathering a texture or add blood details like in this video I'm simply tinkering with different blend modes and opacity's to get the desired look :) I don't mind the questions at all :) thanks for watching

    have you considered doing a video on how you port these models over to the game engine, it would be interesting to see all the hook upas and everything.

      Perhaps I should do that at some point thanks for the suggestion!

    I've never heared of xNormal before so I gotta ask, why did you use that over blender? I tried searching for an answer (for about 2 mins) but all I got where for blender 2.8. Could you or anyone tell me why use xNormal over blender for baking or is it just a preference?
    Also I really love your devlogs I find them very inspiring and helpful, I hope the game will turn out the way you want it to.

    • @AaronMYoung
      @AaronMYoung  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! I use Xnormal because I find it easer to set up than in blender, with that said I could optimise the way I do it in blender there must be a simpler way :)

    This update was a nice change of pace. What's the texture resolution for the object?

    • @AaronMYoung
      @AaronMYoung  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I often feel like my devlogs take a long time to make and I want content for you guys in between, I should be able to put more stuff like this out between the devlogs going forward :) the final resolution is 256 however I'm not decided if I like 128 best.

  • @Trench_762
    @Trench_762 ปีที่แล้ว

    So I've seen you use both, so I'm curious. Which do you prefer Blender or Maya?

    • @AaronMYoung
      @AaronMYoung  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Blender was a game changer for me, the amount of plugins available that are either free or small cost in most cases are useful, the community are supportive and the fact it's free to use blows my mind to this day. Damn I sound like a fan boy don't I :'D

    • @Trench_762
      @Trench_762 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey thanks for the reply. I found it far better than Maya having used both personally. Although I haven't used Maya nearly as extensively. Doing things in Maya seems extremely clunky compared to Blender. Feels like there's a lot more navigation done per action. How do you feel about this specifically?@@AaronMYoung
