  • Part 2/2 of my I Heart Cambodia special episodes. I try to keep it as authentic as possible. This is made to honor my grandma Lay who passed away on February 14th 2015. She always wanted one of her children or grandchildren to preserve this tradition. So this is my gratitude toward her. I really want to upload the full version but it is too long at nearly 60 minutes mark so I decided to cut and made only the highlights of the full version. I want to share my amazing experience and my culture with you guys. Cambodia is still an underrated country so I want to promote its tradition and culture to the world. I apologize for all the spelling mistakes. I forgot to double check all the scenes. Big thanks to my cousin, Bina for filming this. If you haven't noticed already at the start of the video, I look so grumpy because I literally had like 3 hours of sleeping the night before the ordination. There will be a lot of Khmer language so bear with it for a while. Don't forget to check out the previous video if you find this one too boring or too long. Like and subscribe for more videos. I am a Tibetan, and I will be a monk too. Tibet is a Mahayana Buddhism Tantra, but we have to study the Theravada Buddhism too. In my impression, Cambodia is Hinayana Buddhism, but yesterday I watched some videos about the history of Cambodian Buddhism, and found that there are also stages of Mahayana Buddhism in Cambodian history. But I don't know whether there is still Mahayana Buddhism in Cambodia or pure Hinayana Buddhism.

      Thank you very much for your comment. I believe most Cambodians practise Theravada Buddhism, there is still a small pocket of monks who practise Mahayana Buddhism as well. I was ordained into the Theravada Buddhism branch.

      Before theravada buddhism arrived in Cambodia, Khmer people followed as hinduism as mahayana buddhism.

    बहुत ही सुखद तरीके से बौद्ध धम्म कम्बोडिया में फला फूला है। क्योंकि वहां की सरकार बौद्ध धम्म में गहरा विश्वास रखती है और जनता भी 100% बौद्ध धम्म को स्वीकार करती है। भारत में बौद्ध धम्म को ब्राह्मणों ने खत्म कर दिया है हिंदू धर्म कोई धर्म नहीं है बल्कि ब्राह्मण धर्म व अंधविश्वासों की खान है।🇮🇳🙏

      Thank you very much. To my understanding, I believe it is. Though, I am not 100% sure. The temple I got ordained in was Sampov Meas Temple in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. You must know a lot about Buddhism, thanks for the questions.

    Is it wrong if a Muslim like me is friends with a monk and wants to be a monk like my brother

    • @TovnaDavid
      @TovnaDavid  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the question. To my knowledge, I don't think monks can be "friend" with anyone. However, you (as a monk) can associate yourself with other monks and non-monk people. It's not called a friendship. Also, I don't think there is a discrimination rule for a Muslim to become a monk. As long as you practise Buddhism to the fullest of your heart and mean it, I think it should be fine.

    I do the same few years ago in belgium, but i can’t talk in khmer, so my aunt was every time next to me, saying What i have to say but in phonetic. It was so hard

    • @TovnaDavid
      @TovnaDavid  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      wow, really? they do that in belgium too!? that's amazing. thanks for sharing. it's so true that you said it was so hard. i can speak khmer but it's like learning another language. even though the words are written in khmer, the sound and the way they are pronounced are in an ancient language called pali. it is one of the proudest moments of my life!
