Cell had no chance against Gohan. Injured Gohan killed Super Perfect Cell with his kamehamea. If Super Perfect Cell was 6 then Injured Gohan ssj2 must had been an 11. And full power ssj2 Gohan would have been a 20!

The best version of Gohan, voice and all, when this episode played I was still mourning the passing of Goku I cried when Gohan transformed in this scene, "I was like go get him Gohan, redeem yourself for your mistake of not killing cell earlier". It felt so personal those 20 years + ago.

He did just learn how to control transformations quite effectively. As a SSJ, in order to turn into a SSJ2, you just use the same feeling again. You can't double up on it. It's why it requires mastering the first form so it feels normal, that way you can tap into an advanced stage. It's literally like SSJ on top of SSJ lol. Terrible way of explaining it but just using what Goku and others had stated before.
Gohan was confirmed to still be stronger. You can tell that Cell knew Gohan was still stronger too. He hesitated like a mofo. He knew that if Gohan goes all out, that Cell will be at a major disadvantage.

I think SSJ2 Gohan might have been stronger but Super perfect cell would have been the better fighter and more technical he would have sure caught SSJ2 Gohan with an attack with the instant transmission

Yeah translations were not very accurate for this series back in 96 there were 3 separate English dubs between Europe, Canada and the US. I always thought cell sounded better in the other one, where he didn’t elongate his words.

One of the rumors as to why Gohan didn't train after the cell games, at least not seriously, was that he hated how SSJ2 made him feel. That it brought his Saiyan half to the forefront, made him feel sadistic, cruel, and hunger for battle and destruction; the complete antithesis of who Gohan was. So he ended up avoiding the form entirely for those 7 years. A personal theory of mine is that he didn't go SSJ2 vs Dabura, as if he had he should've been able to defeat him quite handily, because he was still subconsciously holding himself back from using it. The last time we see SSJ2 was at the Tournament, and that was right after he saw Videl beaten within an inch of her life.

Goku also wasn't at full power during the Freeza fight, there was no point during the entire battle after going SSJ that he EVER used his full power. The manga and the Japanese version both confirm this, you need to stop relying on the English dub, the translations are constantly getting changed to hype or overhyped villains. Goku barely broke a sweat against Freeza and he only pulled out the same amount of power Freeza was using to keep the fight interesting. When Freeza starts losing power, Goku realizes how weak Freeza actually is and that it's pointless to continue. He gets so disappointed he literally stops the fight. Had Goku used his full power, we'd have seen a Gohan vs Cell type situation. You have to keep in mind Goku's full power had several tens of millions above Freeza

SSJ, SSJ2, SSJ3 and even SSJ4 when he was compressing his oozaru form into a more humanoid smaller form was just genius and sick build ups for the fights about to happen
this was made during the economic boom of japan where they could literally drop a money bomb at anything , like just compare dbz movies to the dbs broly movie, crudy cgi to weird ass colors. Even the fights lack proper choreography where as the previous broly for example made excellent use of his long legs

It might be a subtle effect but as Gohan powers up, you can see the heat and rising debris surrounding him- unlike Cell. I can't help but speculate that it would mean Gohan was emitting a greater power output in SSJ2 form compared to SPC

Gohan did underestimate Cell, but he underestimated himself even more after he started losing confidence and focus from the loss of power and damage he sustained. But with the help of Vegeta and Goku, a weakened Gohan was able to destroy Cell after strengthening his frame of mind.

in all honesty, I agree with you 100% this fight would’ve been amazing, but I love the beam struggle simply for the fact that everyone helped Gohan out while he was struggling and them talking bout how Gohan (and Goku) helped them be where they are now, and now they have to be there for Gohan. If we got another physical beatdown, it would have been as boring as that long ass fight between Frieza and SSj1 Goku. The beam struggle worked. Plus it was an easier idea to execute. Also like the dude above said, everyone helped out. It was like a DBZ fastball special. .

Gohan was such a beast instantly ready for the smoke. Best climax in DBZ history this whole final sequence of the Cell Saga is pure art had me on edge man 😂
I like how quick Cell's smirk disappears when Gohan is still battle ready. He was hoping him talking up a good game about getting stronger, learning instant transmission and killing Goku and Trunks would demoralize him, but instead, it had the opposite effect he was hoping for. He knew it was still not going to be easy to kill Gohan, despite getting a lot stronger. Even after Gohan is not shaken, Cell is still desperate to try to demoralize him, mentioning his father again and how he will fall as well. Cell wasn't even making the first move, despite bragging about his new power. I like how it implies this when the images look distorted from Gohan's immense power when he powers up, while Cell's remains stationary. This shows that Cell is still no match for him, even though he would put up a better fight than before, Gohan is still more than a match for Cell. I feel like Cell kind of knew that he would still get his ass kicked and that he didn't just randomly shoot Trunks for no reason. I feel like he needed to kill Trunks to get Vegeta riled up. He was the most logical choice because killing the others wouldn't have gotten the same effect he wanted and killing Piccolo would really piss off Gohan and that would have been worse for Cell. He needed to kill Trunks to get Vegeta mad and attack him, seeing that Vegeta is the easiest to provoke, so that way, he can nearly finish off Vegeta, prompting Gohan to save him and put him in a position where he could damage Gohan and get the advantage over him. I felt like that is why Cell didn't make the first move. He was buying time, still making desperate attempts to demoralize Gohan and wait for Vegeta to get really mad an attack him.

Gotham killed him with half his energy along with a badly damaged arm. Blown confidence and a broken heart due to seeing his dad disappear for potentially forever. Gohan in this state would have absolutely demolished Cell. Cell would have put up a right be ultimately he was done for when Gohan unlocked SSJ2. His death became inevitable at that point.

its interesting.. since cell came back as "super" perfect cell, you can tell he also has the lightning in his aura and so on like gohan. However only gohan has the like out of focus glow on him that kind of shows hes still stronger. (I remember in a db episode they mentioned when they were really strong they had "heat" in there aura , causing an effect kind of like when its a really really hot day outside but on the person.)

Guide books and Toriyama himself stated that Gohan was still far more powerful, even with one arm. His confidence was just wavering with 1 less arm. He had no experience fighting crippled like that, but Goku did. That's why he was able to coach Gohan into winning

He also had his dad coaching him, that's what helped him win, not Vegeta.

I mean the common theme is that once you go into a transformation you can tap into it again
He did just learn how to control transformations quite effectively. As a SSJ, in order to turn into a SSJ2, you just use the same feeling again. You can't double up on it. It's why it requires mastering the first form so it feels normal, that way you can tap into an advanced stage. It's literally like SSJ on top of SSJ lol. Terrible way of explaining it but just using what Goku and others had stated before.

One of the rumors as to why Gohan didn't train after the cell games, at least not seriously, was that he hated how SSJ2 made him feel. That it brought his Saiyan half to the forefront, made him feel sadistic, cruel, and hunger for battle and destruction; the complete antithesis of who Gohan was. So he ended up avoiding the form entirely for those 7 years.
A personal theory of mine is that he didn't go SSJ2 vs Dabura, as if he had he should've been able to defeat him quite handily, because he was still subconsciously holding himself back from using it. The last time we see SSJ2 was at the Tournament, and that was right after he saw Videl beaten within an inch of her life.

It's pretty obvious from seeing how the fight went earlier that Gohan's SSJ2 was enormously higher than Perfect Cell, even Cell's Super power up wouldn't have closed the gap

Goku also wasn't at full power during the Freeza fight, there was no point during the entire battle after going SSJ that he EVER used his full power. The manga and the Japanese version both confirm this, you need to stop relying on the English dub, the translations are constantly getting changed to hype or overhyped villains.
Goku barely broke a sweat against Freeza and he only pulled out the same amount of power Freeza was using to keep the fight interesting. When Freeza starts losing power, Goku realizes how weak Freeza actually is and that it's pointless to continue. He gets so disappointed he literally stops the fight.
Had Goku used his full power, we'd have seen a Gohan vs Cell type situation. You have to keep in mind Goku's full power had several tens of millions above Freeza

this was made during the economic boom of japan where they could literally drop a money bomb at anything , like just compare dbz movies to the dbs broly movie, crudy cgi to weird ass colors. Even the fights lack proper choreography where as the previous broly for example made excellent use of his long legs

2. That wasn’t an effortless blast that was a death beam which is a piercing attack. And it only did a lot of damage because gohan didn’t put up any guard, he basically threw his body at the blast.

in all honesty, I agree with you 100% this fight would’ve been amazing, but I love the beam struggle simply for the fact that everyone helped Gohan out while he was struggling and them talking bout how Gohan (and Goku) helped them be where they are now, and now they have to be there for Gohan. It’s prob my fave part of the entire Dragon Ball series
If we got another physical beatdown, it would have been as boring as that long ass fight between Frieza and SSj1 Goku. The beam struggle worked. Plus it was an easier idea to execute. Also like the dude above said, everyone helped out. It was like a DBZ fastball special.

1:07 whenever Gohan is cocky and arrogant, he reminds me a lot of Bardock
I like how quick Cell's smirk disappears when Gohan is still battle ready. He was hoping him talking up a good game about getting stronger, learning instant transmission and killing Goku and Trunks would demoralize him, but instead, it had the opposite effect he was hoping for. He knew it was still not going to be easy to kill Gohan, despite getting a lot stronger. Even after Gohan is not shaken, Cell is still desperate to try to demoralize him, mentioning his father again and how he will fall as well. Cell wasn't even making the first move, despite bragging about his new power. I like how it implies this when the images look distorted from Gohan's immense power when he powers up, while Cell's remains stationary.
This shows that Cell is still no match for him, even though he would put up a better fight than before, Gohan is still more than a match for Cell. I feel like Cell kind of knew that he would still get his ass kicked and that he didn't just randomly shoot Trunks for no reason. I feel like he needed to kill Trunks to get Vegeta riled up. He was the most logical choice because killing the others wouldn't have gotten the same effect he wanted and killing Piccolo would really piss off Gohan and that would have been worse for Cell. He needed to kill Trunks to get Vegeta mad and attack him, seeing that Vegeta is the easiest to provoke, so that way, he can nearly finish off Vegeta, prompting Gohan to save him and put him in a position where he could damage Gohan and get the advantage over him.
I felt like that is why Cell didn't make the first move. He was buying time, still making desperate attempts to demoralize Gohan and wait for Vegeta to get really mad an attack him.

its interesting.. since cell came back as "super" perfect cell, you can tell he also has the lightning in his aura and so on like gohan. However only gohan has the like out of focus glow on him that kind of shows hes still stronger. (I remember in a db episode they mentioned when they were really strong they had "heat" in there aura , causing an effect kind of like when its a really really hot day outside but on the person.)

That same difference here between Gohan and Cell is subtle, but no different than the correlation between Cell and Trunks. Gohan was way above Cell here! That blast he received from Cell that injured him was just plot filler to make the fight more exciting because Cell would have still lost! Hopefully that helps. 1:07

Guide books and Toriyama himself stated that Gohan was still far more powerful, even with one arm. His confidence was just wavering with 1 less arm. He had no experience fighting crippled like that, but Goku did. That's why he was able to coach Gohan into winning

Gohan had powered down getting distracted by Vegeta and rushed over to save him, I doubt that blast would've done what it did before Vegeta freaked out. Regardless Gohan was stronger, manga, kai, Japanese dub it's all stated that even in this state, he's the strongest in the universe. He also had his dad coaching him, that's what helped him win, not Vegeta.

It logically doesn't make sense for Gohan to be powered down, he powered up and said he wouldn't make the same mistake, not to mention the fact that it doesn't make logical sense for Gohan to be holding back flying towards vegeta. Gohan would’ve walked him down again and Cell knew it. He was banking on Gohan getting demoralized and losing his will to fight after Goku’s and Trunks’ death, but it backfires because all it does is harden Gohan’s resolve. Gohan wanted all the smoke and Cell’s bravado vanishes once he realizes at 1:10 If Gohan overpowered Cell’s full powered solar kamehameha with one arm, Cell stood no chance against him at 100% strength
We could all blame Vegeta for ruining what could of been a fight that’s almost as good as Goku vs Frieza
