You nailed it on the head. The song made headlines when it came out for being one of the first of its kind to directly address child molestation. It’s an important song in the history rock and metal music for this reason. Definitely brought Skid Row into the main stream conversation to that point as something more than just another rock metal band.

In a darkened room beyond the reach of God`s faith lies the wounded the shatered remains of love betrayed. And the innocence of a child is bought and sold in the name of the damned. The rage of the angles left silent and cold. Great lyrics J. Thanks

Originally the band had a fully produced video for this song. They got together to watch a tape of it and everyone hated it. They all left the room but Sebastian hung back and grabbed the VHS tape from the machine and kept it. So he supposedly has the only existing copy of the original video for this song.
I don't know if it was destroyed in Hurricane Irene, along with the rest of his Skid Row archives.

Here's a couple of suggestions-- WHITE LION When the Children Cry. Hugely popular late 80's rock song most have forgotten about, softer quiter sensitive song. The other is JUDAS PRIEST A Touch of Evil. Soaring vocals in that one as well and definitely a British Metal vibe. Hope you'll give these a shot, would be an interesting reaction

As someone that has a very close friend that was abused as a child, this song pretty much sums it up from what she's told me. She was 5 years old when it started and thus had no idea that there was anything wrong going on until she got older as it was portrayed to her as normal. This was her favorite Skid Row song as it spoke to her about what she went through especially the "Please forgive me cause I know not what I do" line as she had no idea she was really being abused by her family members.

Heavy metal doesn't shy away from the heavy subjects. That's why they call it 'heavy metal'. You should try the original studio version of "Beyond the Realms of Death" by Judas Priest.

I've made it through an abusive and loveless childhood, ended up in foster homes at 12 yrs old.. this is one of the best songs that shares the emotion of those times. There's 4 songs that I know of that are clearly about abuse that are deep meaning to me
SKID ROW - In a Darkend Room
FLOTSAM and JETSAM - Wading through the Darkness
PAT BENITAR- Hell is For Children
    and
    THE CRANBERRIES- Zombie

All Skid Row needed was one more legend status musician to be on the level of The Who, Sabbath, and Zepplin.

That was an odd vid. The first half was the studio version, then where the volume jumped up it was from that LIVE recording for the rest of it. 🤷🏼‍♂️
I guess they wanted to show that he could do that high scream LIVE. After seeing him myself, twice, I had no doubt! 🤘🏽🔥🤘🏽🔥

Dave Sabo was a very underrated guitarist. If Skid Row had hit the scene in the middle 80s, he'd been listed among the greats of the time, but because they came out late when grunge was taking off, he doesn't get the respect he deserves.

You're very perceptive when it comes to getting the messages of a song 😭 Like you get it pretty much immediately and it's very satisfying. Yeah this song is about child abuse & how it can mess with a child's head. Love your Skid Row reactions, for another band suggestion I'd love to see some Alice In Chains reactions, specifically Love Hate Love, Man In the Box, and Would ! 🫶🏽

Super suggest the band Warlock! They rule and singer Doro Pesch is the Queen of Metal! 🖤🤘 (mentioned this in another comment but for good measure haha). Songs:
-All We Are (awesome vid, song is an anthem, Jamel would love the message)
    -Without You (beautiful/powerful ballad 🖤)
    -I Rule the Ruins (epic)
    -Dark Fade (rad/badass/fast tempo)

YOUR CLOSE , BUT THE SONG IS ABOUT THE ALLURE OF BIG LIGHTS , DRUGS , AND BAD PEOPLE . THE YOUNG PERSONS FIRST KISS IS JUST A 15 YEAR OLD GIRL SEDUCED BY THE GLITZ AND GLAMOR, THAT FALLS IN LOVE , ENDS UPBWITH A BROKEN HEART AND SHE IS A RUNAWAY , ON THE STREETS OF THE BIG CITY , TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF AND ENDS UP ON DRUGS IN A DARKENED ROOM , AND ONLY THE ANGELS HEAR HER TEARS ....
LET THERE BE LIGHT , HOPE ....

I’m pretty sure the “darkened room” is his depression, and the innocence of the child was his own.

Being molested is a major depressant. I have often had a niggling thought that he might have been molested in his own childhood (there's a noticeable difference in their writing styles, this is Baz...) I was trying to figure out where his temper came from, because he idolized his dad and mom, big on family. Then I heard this song-- it's all but confirmed IMO (there's always uncle so n' so). The whole thing is sad and beautiful! Doing that to a child... well there should be no statute of limitations because the damage is for *life*! Again, JMO. Aside from that, sad but beautiful song, great guitar work and Baz's vocals just *beyond* amazing, as usual! Thank you Jamal! Take good care hon!

Such an awesome band. Bach is amazing, even today. Saw them open for Guns N Roses, and headline with Pantera opening. Was gonna see Bach solo at the end of March, but the pandemic hit.

    @donnieburgess 2 ปีที่แล้ว

There is an amount of interpretation to this song which I think is very important. I loved it when it came out, but as a breakup song for teens. The lyrics play very well as that breakup song -shattering the past and the future- and the lost and betrayed feeling you have in those lonesome, dark moments. The intent of the song was to shine a light on something clearly far worse. Either way, boy howdy did Sebastian Bach nail this one out of the park on the studio recording. Just amazing vocals.
