"48 Hours" correspondent Erin Moriarty talks with longtime friends of Ketanji Brown Jackson, who explain why they believe Jackson's nomination (if confirmed, she would be the first Black woman to serve on the Supreme Court) is a testament to her brilliance and passion for the law.

She passed out from the best university in US and is currently a judge. What more accomplishment do they expect.? She can’t change her color unfortunately if its what they are expecting
And if that is their problem, well it kind of highlights why having representation in the final legal body of arbitration is important. We still fall short of our ideal, so we need leaders who can help change.

They don't want to change her color, their issue is that she's being selected in part because of her color. They take exception with the identity politics as part of the process rather than purely on qualification. It's fine, I'm not looking to start an argument here. If she's confirmed it's great and they'll move on. To be honest, the Right actually doesn't care much because you're just replacing one liberal judge with another liberal judge. And yes I have a Master's in History if we care about my education level for some reason.

The fact that her LSAT score is even a question is laughable and offensive. Also she got into Harvard Law, so her LSAT score was probably top 2% of that year. She has more credentials than everyone on the SCOTUS currently.

Just watched this on TV - I am so, so impressed with the nomination of Ketanji Brown Jackson to the US Supreme Court. Her credentials are incredible and surpass the highest expectations.. Wishing her strength and peace during the confirmations.
Well qualified but basically window-dressing since the right has such a strangle-hold on the court. A few will have to resign and pass on before she makes a difference.

It's not easy because the process is intentionally so. This is the highest court in the land meant to interpret the Constitution, not to meet political agendas. Should it be easy to be hired as a brain surgeon or airline pilot? Ultimately, Republican members of the Senate are unlikely to care much because you're replacing one liberal judge with another liberal judge, it will have zero to do with her gender or color.
I predict her confirmation won’t be difficult.

They're using it to manipulate the conversation toward some racist narrative if the process and appointment is questioned for any reason. That is fundamentally ridiculous. All appointees, the merit of their qualifications must be scrutinized seriously by the Senate. Not by you or I because we saw some uplifting news piece. This is the highest court in the land that is intended purely to interpret the Constitution, not the hey look how virtuous we are, let's hold hands and ascend into the rainbows court.
I'm sure limiting your options to 2% of America's lawyers rather than the _top_ 2% of America's lawyers is a good idea. Ketanji can't even say what a woman is, but she can weigh facts and arguments with aplomb. Just the sort of thing America needs in the judiciary.

Ketanji Brown Jackson will hopefully strive to make wise decisions on the Supreme Court.
She presided over a case pertaining to black people: The case Ross v. Lockheed, a 2016 class-action lawsuit brought forward on behalf of 5,500 Black Lockheed Martin employees, Jackson presided over the case, and Ketanji Brown failed to greenlight the settlement that was reached, which was set to disperse $22 million to the employees. Judge Jackson gave the axe to a settlement designed to benefit black workers at one of the nation's largest employers, denied the injunctive relief agreed to by Lockheed Martin that would have addressed a root cause of systemic racial bias that could have been a model for a nation hungry for racial equity solutions; denied the black workers the right to seek evidence to prove their claim of company-wide racial discrimination, and knowingly frustrated the rights of black workers to appeal her decision.14 employees in Meridian Mississippi were killed some 10 years earlier at a Lockheed Martin facility where executives did know that this person was a danger for a year or more and did nothing about it. She is a nothing burger. Clarence Thomas is black. How has that work for Black Americans?
