This is one of the coolest rock stars ever. That he has maintained his sanity and health after being a celebrity since he was 16 is impressive. I wish him all the best in life.
Sami is the best. I met him when he was with the Dolls. They played at Tower Records in L.A. and had a meet and greet after. He was the only guy that shook my hand and was genuine. I mentioned Hanoi and he lit up. We started talking and security moved me along. Felt like I could've talked to him for an hour. Just bought his album. I'll support this guy in whatever he does.
Met him at a show when he was the bass player for Jetboy. What a great guy. Yelled across the club to him as he was just about to leave. He came over was very friendly with me and my GF and signed an autograph for us before heading off.
🌟Nice interview! Got to meet Sami at a show several years ago in Nashville. Such a nice guy and fantastic musician. More recently, a doorman at some show we went to was wearing a Hanoi Rocks tee, and I complimented his shirt. He let us in for free! 😅
Sami is a terrific interview. What a memory! He remembered the club in Cleveland where HR played their last show: Peabody’s. I’ve seen what seems like a thousand great shows from up and coming bands at that club before it moved and closed. Played there a ton, too. I also had seen Smack in LA at Club Lingerie back in 1988 before Sami joined. I wish I had seen Jetboy but we were never in the same town at the same time.
Great thanks. Sami is amazing and his attitude always warms ones heart nowadays. Always when listening to Sami feels well this chap has had a life! Hats off.
Same here. Met him when he was in Jetboy at a club in Buffalo. They were opening for Kix. Whole band was a bunch of great guys who really enjoyed talking with fans. Same with the Kix boys.
@@mikelachey824 He was with Jetboy when I met him as well. Opening for Cheap Trick, a buddy of mine was on the road with them at the time running sound.
Sami is awesome. I knew Todd Crew when I was a young little dude. I was heartbroken by Todd but was happy when Sami joined Jetboy. I was hoping that their first album and second was more raw like they were live. Todd was an inspiration when I played bass and Sami was as well.
Love Sam Yaffa! Rember the first time a saw Hanoi, it was in public place called Folkets Hus in September 1981 Eskilstuna, Sweden. I was only thirteen.. And after that i was sold. ❤️
Great stuff thanks Jason for contacting these guys and getting this to chat with Sami. So much content bringing back many memories and filling in a few gaps too. Rock on 🤘
I know this comes in late, but Hanoi Rocks played the Helsinki Icehall with Gyp Casino so all original members last September, as a part of Michael Monroes 60th birthday celebration. It was so cool to be finally able to see them play as a millenial who missed the first stint.
I've never seen this guy speak before not counting the time I met him by chance in the crowd of a Stryper show, Jetboy opened that night, but have never actually seen him interviewed anywhere. This is a real treat. I've been listening to Hanoi since I bought "2 Steps..." after seeing their Broken Dreams video on Mtv. Freaked me out to hear him say the band was falling apart after they had just finally got a major record deal and were produced by Bob Ezrin. That's crazy to me.
Met Sami years ago when he was playing a gig with Jetboy. He was so damn cool to everyone, unlike his former band members in Jetboy who were dicks to everyone that night.
Sam was a nice guy, I met him several times when he played with Jetboy. I never knew he was an addict he was just a great guy. I knew Todd who he replaced and there was no animosity when Sam joined the band
I have been listening to Hanoi Rocks since the early 90s when I seen thier colored vinyl in the alternative/punk section. I didnt know Sami was so cool/nice and tells interesting stories. Im so happy he kicked his smack habit . Im very happy for him, Michael and Nasty. I wish Andy would grow up and be proper so we can see a real, full reunion. He (Andy) seems like a narcissist of the worst kind
Interesting interview. I always thought of Hanoi Rocks as cheap, sleaze metal. Hearing the first album, first time ever. It kinda has an Aerosmith vibe.
They are the epitome of that sleaze metal sound that is so rich in blues and jazz. Even Hanoi is the most known of those bands, but there were just so many amazing bands from that area of the globe back then and so hard to hear the ones that didn't achieve Hanoi's level, because everything was really word of mouth usually from what you found in the sacred import bin, then shared with a friend, who shared with a friend. That and Headbangers Ball. Imagine if we had the internet, TH-cam and social media back then???? YIKES !!!!! I'd of been in heaven. Still to this day I'll look at a picture of a band, then check where they are from. If its Sweden or Finland. I'll smile knowingly. Hanoi has left a wonderful legacy that is still growing and spreading
Wouldn't bring back an amazing drummer and a very lovely man that we lost. He should of went to jail and not onto a career that was built on 4 blockheads that got famous for all the stupid irresponsible shit they did and not actually being gifted musicians.
Loved them from the first time I caught Feel The Shake on Mtv and hearing Sam was the bassist sealed me being a fan. The whole line up is criminally underrated
There's a persistent story out there that the Heroin overdose death of one of Jetboys guitar players is one of the blackest marks on Slash's record. Apparently they were doing smack together, the Jet Boy guy overdosed, and instead of getting him some help Slash just build out and tried to make it look like he was never there. Gun 's management apparently paid a lot of money out to the Jet boy guy's family to prevent a wrongful death suit.
The guy sname is tod Crue I was pretty good friend s with him towdy was a hardcore alcohol ic but he never shot up with us when he stayed at heather gerstel s his x my xoxoxo love is what I cald her love is
1h10min So no boarders..so +60billion refugees to Finland alrighty then, no problem at all! Sami dont seem to know that there are huge % coming from Sweden and other safe countries to this country that has highest benefits!
Yeah, don't meet your heroes, right? Sami and Michael follow that shit-lib script about "diversity", "no borders", anti-Trump, etc. Disheartening. I'll just remember the good times.
How can you say Poison and Motley Crue were influenced by Hanoi. The look really isn't the same. And the music isn't even close to being the same genre. Hanoi sounds like the Clash meets The Rolling Stones. But as far as actually being influenced by Hanoi's music? Bands like Flash Bastard are the ones who actually SOUND like they are influenced by Hanoi Rocks.....This idea that the L.A scene could name two songs by Hanoi is laughable.

Been a fan of Sami since I first heard Hanoi Rocks. Great interview.
Thank you Brian, Sami is great!

He speaks of Demolition 23 being his favorite project. I wish so badly that it would get a proper release. I would love that record on vinyl.
Good news, Watch my interview with Michael Monroe, demolition 23 rerelease later this year
A very charmful fellow and a great interview!
Thanks, Jason!
And thanks, Sami!
Tämä oli pirun hyvä haastattelu, Jason. So in english: this was a very good interview. Thank you again. Hyvä Sami.
Loved this. 👏 And regads from Finland. 😊
Met Sami along with the rest of the Jetboy guys. He was the nicest guy and treated me like an old friend even though we had just met.

Cool interview!! Both of them are cool!! Sami deserves all attention he can get!!
Really excellent chemistry in this interview. Covered off a lot of ground. Sami is the real deal.
Sami is a fascinating citizen of the world! I've read the book twice. Great story.
Hanoi Rocks!
Great interview. Love how you just let them speak. Sami is a very interesting interviewee.
When you stumble across a TH-cam channel completely by mistake and glad you did 🤟 an awesome interview with Sami Yaffa, seems a top bloke too

Thanks Lloyd, Sami really is great and let me cover a lot
Thanks Jason and Sami, really enjoyed this! Hanoi Rocks were the greatest and Sami seems like a wonderful guy - all the best to you both!

Interview Rane from Smack! Such a cool cat with great stories,..
I know this comes in late, but Hanoi Rocks played the Helsinki Icehall with Gyp Casino so all original members last September, as a part of Michael Monroes 60th birthday celebration. It was so cool to be finally able to see them play as a millenial who missed the first stint.
Such a good interview, and host! found this trough Sami and I'm for sure sticking around for more. Great stuff!!
Thank you welcome to the channel! Sami is great

I’m really glad you enjoyed this, I never saw a “real” interview with him either and was honored that he allowed me to do this one
I love this interview…Jason, your a wonderful interviewer. Nice chronological flow with smart questions and insights 💕

SAMI= class act!
Sami is a sweetheart of a man...
The best show I've seen San Diego was Mad Juana.
Very cool that Ornette Coleman gets mentioned. A name you rarely hear. Great interview!!
Met Sami years ago when he was playing a gig with Jetboy. He was so damn cool to everyone, unlike his former band members in Jetboy who were dicks to everyone that night.
Great interview sir.
I’m glad you liked it, Sami is great!

Vince Neil owes that band 10 million dollars. At least
Vince was on his way to deliver it in cash, but he stopped at a McDonald's...
Would change nothing.

The Day on The Green Jetboy was supposed to open they didn't because someone in the band was in the hospital.
The Great kat is interesting . Gotta give Jason credit for putting up with her yelling .
I have not watched that one. Didn't know it was posted .
It’s interesting
Well done Jason. Would you call Andy McCoy next.
That would require subtittles even with Andy speaking English
The Kenny Laguna situation seems really weird. Seems like someone should have saved Joan from that years ago.
Thats.interveiw with the kat what in the hell.was that lol
jetboy is criminally unknown 👎🏻👎🏻 hey sam 👍

Todd Crew he was a big tall burly sweetheart of a guy. Tragic shock and waste of a young and promising life.
Wow he was born in 63?I could've swore he was older than that.
He was in his early/mid teens and the other guys were in their mid 20’s
