There is something deeply symbolic about a young George Lucas helping Anthony Daniels when he stumbled in the desert to later Daniels falling on his face in a sterile film set while George sits in a chair.

Darth Sidious though ? It's just "insidious" without the prefix. Darth Maul is just "he mauls people".
      General Grevious is "grievance".
They're all pretty silly sounding. But the reason Vader works, is because he was the only one with that sort of name, in 3 movies.
Then the Prequels came along and we had all sorts of names with bad guy characters names, just emerging from Lucas looking up various synonyms for "bad", "attack", and "angry", in a thesaurus.

At the time of the prequels I remember being surprised by Yoda's position and authority. Seeing how everything played out, I thought there was an opportunity to make Yoda the outsider of the Jedi order, rather than at the top table. Imagine if he was the lowly 'youngling teacher' who tried to warn the Jedi leaders but was ignored. 'Judge me by my size?' feels more pointed. And because Yoda knew, but was ignored, explains why he survived. AND it avoids all the crappy incompetence - he'd no longer have to look pensive and talk about his thoughts being clouded by the dark side. Instead he could find Obi-Wan - convince him and maybe a few others.

    • @maxheilman5314

@@maxheilman5314 Yes, exactly. It also makes sense to me why he'd be able to escape - because everyone underestimated him. And why he just hung around on Dagobah feeling sad! It would reinforce the theme that the Jedi had become arrogant and change was needed. The idea of him even having a lightsaber was odd to me, let alone fighting Palpatine! So silly. So much of how I understood the characters to be from the OT (especially Vader, Yoda, the emperor) were completely changed in the PT.

That's so sad lmao. It's comforting to watch a man grossly interpret and misunderstand the Prequels through such an extreme level of bias, as well as make jokes about prostitutes to keep your attention (as it's such a poor attention span), so it fulfils your anger and crying to make you feel better about yourself for not liking something you didn't go into an open mind watching for the first time? You expected something from the Prequels, you didn't get it, so you and Mr. Plinkett winge about it. It's as simple as that. You should judge a film by how well the director achieves their vision, not by how well it fulfilled your expectations. Comforting? Sure. There is a level of nostalgia for it. But to act like these reviews are a work of art, is just absurd.

A though, in retrospect. You know what would have made the love scenes in RotS better? If Padme and Anakin occassionally broken down laughing, both acknowledging that they're terrible at lovey-dovey dialogue. Have Anakin profess that he's more a man of action, not interested in words, and Padme say that she must constantly be careful at every word she says, that she's not used to actually expressing herself.
It would have been very humanizing, and not required Lucas to be good at writing romantic dialogue.

    • @Komnen0s
      @Komnen0s 4 ปีที่แล้ว +250

That's actually not a bad idea. Portraying Anakin as an awkward but earnest, idealistic, and well-meaning young man who wants to be poetic to impress this older girl he likes would make him a lot more engaging. He could give his little "I hate sand" soliloquy, Padme would giggle at it (not in a mean way), he'd get flustered at how inept he is at romantic talk, and she'd reassure him that she still likes him (because she can tell the emotion behind what he's saying is genuine). I can think of numerous similar occasions when I was younger and I tried to impress my GF by saying something slick, only for it fall flat. Real life isn't like a Shakespeare play. People make mistakes and fumble their words. Inserting some nervousness and vulnerability into character interactions goes a long way towards making those characters more relatable.

reviewreviewer1 well, originally the line was “there is another” which got changed in the SE to “there is another Skywalker”. When the OT was created it was just a story of Anakin’s son bringing him back to the light through love. The prequels ruined that. @@TheBrickGuy7939 You do realize there is a literal dark side nexus underneath the Jedi temple correct? Not to mention Sidious clearly mentioning in The Phantom Menace that the Sith were being built up generation to generation for this moment. Sidious is the ultimate enemy against the Jedi. The Jedi being super strict and getting into the political aspect was there downfall even more and he exploited that. The Jedi are supposed to be peacekeepers. Not to mention the Jedi order is heavily flawed and has weird teachings that contradict their own beliefs to begin with. Look at Qui Gon he follows the force and in TPM its established he isn’t like most Jedi in the order or follow their rules perfectly.
George quite literally set this up perfectly with all these little subtle events and characters. Its beautiful actually. Beautifully tragic. Its sad how many people just write it off. The Prequel haters never cease to amaze me. Im just glad there are people who noticed it in the beginning and now the Prequels are definitely viewed more positively. People were just upset that it wasnt about a farm boy and a heroes journey. It was tragic fall because of a devious and intelligent Sith. Both are great in their own ways.
The inner workings of how Sidious manipulated the entire galaxy are such well told and well developed that its probably the deepest set of films in history on the complex traits it shows and develops.
What makes it even more interesting is the dark side aspect as Sidious has been clouding the minds of the Jedi this whole time. He is hiding in plain site. I find it brilliant and the downplay for the Prequels is disgusting. Plinketts lack of comprehension and out dated views are hilariously bad.

@@YhwachTheAlmighty I am not a prequel hater. There are a lot of things in them I like but I can still see some flaws in them. The production of most of the dialogue scenes especially on Naboo and Coruscant could have been better and shot in a less boring way and a lot of characters and aspects could have been much more fleshed out. My first time viewing them when I was 16 before The Force Awakens released, there were a lot of parts that I struggled to stay awake during. It is clear George wanted to get back to the action scenes, and so did I, because they were some of the only parts that had a lot of art and creativity put into their cinematography.
There are definitely several things in Palpatine's plan that don't make sense. I know a couple of parts of the plan were explained in the movies but a lot of the plot holes had to be explained either in books or the Clone Wars show because they were not properly explained in the movies. I wish we saw a lot more of the Clone Wars in the films. We only see 3 battles in full and although they are exciting to watch for the most part, there is not much to be emotionally invested in with those scenes. I like the show as well. But for people who only watch the movies, there is bound to be confusion.

@Dr Fopolopus This review has many flaws, and for the most part he brings up many non arguments, like the prequels were bad, George is stealing our money. He nitpicks many scenes and in some places he is just wrong. These reviews are just comedy, let's get that straight, and the same thing could be done with almost any other movie. I can imagine a similar comedy review that rips into Return of the jedi that focuses on Ewoks, Leia being Lukes sister, empire building a new death star, death star defences being worse than the last time, Luke's duel at the end not mattering that much, the weird plan to save Han, Boba Fett's death just to name a few.
I'm looking forward to when Anomaly Inc rips these reviews a new asshole. Mike is just a tool who made these reviews because the movies went against his vision for Star Wars. He explained what was wrong with these movies and what the movies should have been (in very vague terms because he doesn't have the mind to come up with a good story himself). Then A force awakens comes out and if he wanted to he could have created a review that is just as critical as these ones, but he didn't because it didn't fit his narrative. The new movies fell in line completely to what he wanted in a movie based on these reviews and if he made a critical review he would seem hypocritical, but there is no way that he likes the sequels. People usually try very hard to be consistent in their reasoning, even if they discover that they were wrong.

That is classic and thank you for bringing it up, these are all or should be national treasures kept in library of congress by now.
When looking at the specific one, I think the overweight diner character that has similar GL body and similar GL bullfrog double/triple chin facial structure (nothing wrong with it) but it's filmed in such a funny, particular way where it looks like he's a testy emperor such as Caligula or Tiberius from 2000yrs ago, thoughtfully examining a bust of himself before giving final approval (or disapproval) with a room full of people frightened for their own lives or today; their careers or whether they've have a job the next day. That's no way to live life but that's their choice I guess. People will literally sell their souls for a dollar and not give a damn. That's how I feel about the people who never challenged him on ANY of this nonsense. They sold out to make 2nd house payment in Florida keys and need to kiss that butt to not have it repo'd.
Imagine all the people involved who have no doubt watched these by now. Never really see any comment because what could they possibly say in any defense? GL was boss, like the maazis they were soldiers just told what to do.
Priceless. Wish they'd redo these in full 1080. Ever since finding RedLetterMedia I cannot stop watching anything they release; especially star wars related. Just the best and most humorous movie reviewers I've ever found in life.

Number 1) that wasn't a "completely logical question" - the separatist leaders were ALREADY all in 1 place, here on Utapau; it was about to get found out, so Sidious tells Grievous to move them to another planet.
To the extent there was a problem with them being in 1 place, it was already a problem at the time of that conversation - it's not like they were all dispersed across the universe and the hologram tells him "hey put them all in one basket" and *then* Grievous should be like "hmm, sounds weird".
And 2) they're already long in cahoots, so why should he suddenly start asking "who he is and where he's broadcasting from"?
      Sidious has been the separatist leader in league with Dooku since the start, and Grievous was part of that club (along with still Nute Gunray and everyone else there, as it later turns out) - absolutely nothing is revealed about how they came to work together, so you can't just point at it and call it nonsensical for him to trust him "even though he doesn't know his secret identity";
all you can do is point out how this wasn't revealed and remains unclear - although it's nowhere as fundamentally unclear as Plinkett generally presents it as, since it's obvious that the Tradefederation was interested in some kinda money/power/territory thing and these Separatist leaders are interested in winning the war,
so if this secret hologram guy has proven himself to be useful and reliable to those goals as long as they follow his commands, or shown to share their convictions or whatnot, then that's all you really need for them to have made a pact.

30:07 What's also notable is what Jimmy Smits said, "We cannot let a thousand years of democracy disappear" which makes the whole thing impossible to fail in the style of the Weimar or the first French Republic, something Lucas was definitely trying to do here. What many forget is how little experience there was with democracy in Germany, young democracies in general tend to be unstable. The Galactic Republic, on the other hand, has existed for thousands of years and has maintained its system for so long despite other wars and crises. That they suddenly, (especially when they're about to win the war) decide to go fascist just because the Jedi supposedly tried to kill Plapatine and have control of the Senate (for whatever reason) just isn't believable at all, and they really should have shown us how much the republic suffers from the war.

    • @jimreily7538
      @jimreily7538 ปีที่แล้ว +26

Exactly. That's really well said and an excellent point. A better comparison should have been Rome. The Roman Republic, emerged from a series of monarchies. The Republic lasted for 500 years.
Throughout its history, it was attacked, and the capital, Rome, was even sacked, burned and assaulted by outside forces. It was ravaged time and again.
Political and social strife plagued the Republic for years.
Yet the Republic remained resilient. Because they had enacted political positions, and a system which had numerous checks on power.
Conspiracies and insurrections were common throughout its history.
But, it became an Empire, in large part because of the political machinations of a single man, Julius Caesar.
The Old Republic of Star Wars should have been depicted in a similar light.
The problem is, that the Republic was depicted as peaceful. That's fine, but to become peaceful, they would have had to conquer other planets, and indeed systems.
It should have been built on conquest, and perennially expanding.
I understand that Jedi are peaceful, but they shouldn't have been the rulers. Obi Wan described them as the protectors. Lucas himself called them "warrior-monks who keep peace in the universe".
He said the Jedi avoid the use of violence except as a last resort, with a mission to "use their power to keep the governments of all the planets in line, so that they don't do terrible things". The Jedi have the "moral authority to do that" since they are "the most moral of anybody in the galaxy".
But how did they take over planets like the Hutt planet, full of gangsters ? Or planets which were fundamentally violent ?
Through force. The Old Republic could have had a mission to spread peace through the galaxy. To acquire that authority, and the power to rule a galaxy, they should have started out, both negotiating with other systems, but in some cases, fighting them.
The Jedi believe in peaceful order. But where systems or planets are in disorder, or where they disobeyed the Republic, or refused to join, then the Republic must have taken them by conflict.
You could explain it, by saying the early Republic was still finding its feet, not entirely peaceful.
Maybe they started out conquering other planets and systems, and in the early Jedi days, they used their powers to help that consolidation. It had to happen somehow.
As the Jedi became moral guardians of the Republic, the Republic itself expanded. They took control of the galaxy, then, as the Jedi became more numerous and powerful, and tended toward peace, they used the Jedi to maintain that peace.
They would, of course, have needed a standing army as well.
      So:
      - Early Republic conquers the Galaxy
      - Jedi and the Republic maintain peace for thousands of years
      - Their military becomes decrepit and unused, since they are so used to peace. They only need a comparatively small numbers of spacecraft, which would form the basis of the Rebel Alliance fleet.
      - Economic and social turmoil arise in the outer systems, and the turmoil spreads. Maybe the Republic lose some systems, whole systems, and so the people become disenfranchised. Other planets and systems see the Reoublic as weak, and begin trying to rise against it. They want autonomy, power or the spoils of war.
      - Intragalactic battles (which would be commonplace anyway) emerge and contribute to the turmoil.
      - The people see the Jedi Council or the Senate as unresponsive, out of touch, unable to quell the violence in the systems.
      - The average merchant, and even the big money making merchant ships are annoyed because the wars and conflicts are disrupting their finance, and their trade routes.
      - Pirates and smugglers become commonplace too, or more common.
      - The average Republic citizen who wants to travel to Planet Holiday for a few months rest, can't do so, because of the turmoil. Where's the Republic police, they ask ?
      - Turmoil in the Senate causes certain systems to leave the Republic, or to try to leave.
      - the average citizen of Coruscant is getting more and more annoyed with the state of affairs in the Galaxy. "If the Jedi and the Republic can't stop these conflicts, who can ? It's dangerous out there ! I can't even fly from Coruscant to Coruscant Moon 1, without being worried a pirate will attack me !
      - Palpatine, like Caesar, should have been a military leader, whose job it was to quell unrest in various parts of the galaxy.
      - Palpatine has, like Caesar, large numbers of Republic troops who are loyal to him, and they become the basis of the Imperial Officer Corps later on.
      - Palpatine demands the Republic build more spacecraft to quell the unrest.
      - In the mean time, economic and social turmoil continue in the Republic.
      - Palpatine, tapping into the dark side of the force, and also using his military might, quells much of the unrest.
      - Palpatine wins a big battle
      - The people are overjoyed. Palpatines devoted troops are overjoyed, and more loyal to him. Palpatine is recognised as a hero by the Senate, and the Jedi don't suspect anything.
      - The Jedi might even team up with Palpatine, to stop the turmoil and uprisings, and gangsters and so on, because they're not just monks but warriors too. They want peace and they know, sometimes, violence is necessary. You can't always be a pacifist if you want to rule a galaxy.
      - Palpatine sees his chance to take power. He sees that he has political power already, military power, and that the Senate is in disarray.
      - Palpatine starts a war with the Republic.
      - Now, we have civil war. This could be the Clone Wars. (Or, any of the preceding conflicts could be the Clone Wars, it's not important, it's only a throwaway line in the OT.)
      - Palpatine dominates the civil war and the Old Reoublic is overthrown, and he enacts the Empire.
      --
That, in my view, is a far better story than the prequels gave us. It took me about 30 minutes to think that up.
As for Vader/Anakin ? I don't know. Maybe Anakin was one of the Jedi who was sent by the Republic to help Palpatine quell the turmoil before the civil war.
Maybe Palpatine shows him how awesome the dark side is, and how you can use hate and fear and jealousy, and still be powerful, you don't need to be this peaceful disciplined Buddhist type - AND you can be more powerful, more quickly. So Anakin gets addicted, or seduced, by the dark side. He can't let it go, and when Palpatine declares war on the Republic, Anakin sides with Palpatine.
      --
So that's it. That's how you could write the prequels, in a way that makes much more sense, and is actually, in my opinion, far more compelling than the unimaginative tripe we got.

That's because you're not a socially isolated Marin County plutocrat, and you think about history in terms of material circumstances. The biggest tragedy of the Star Wars prequels is that George assumed politics universally worked according to early 2000s American party politics. He forgot about the Vietcong and assumed the DNC was as far Left as you could go. So Palpatine becomes an expy for Bush The Lesser, without commenting on the circumstance that allowed him to come to power. Could've been an impactful comment on how liberalism isn't equipped to oppose fascism but no, it's all the fault of a few bad apples.

Tolkien explained why he didn't write a sequel to Return of the King:
"I have written nothing beyond the first few years of the Fourth Age... I of course discovered that the King's Peace would contain no tales worth recounting; and his wars would have little interest after the overthrow of Sauron; but that almost certainly a restlessness would appear about then, owing to the (it seems) inevitable boredom of Men with the good."
Lucas should have read this and heeded his advice. The struggle and wars that would have directly followed Return of the Jedi "would have little interest" after the defeat of the Emperor... no "tales worth recounting". Lucas would have had to create another great evil and allowed this person/entity to seduce large numbers of the galaxy, putting us right back in the same place we were before, forcing the same characters to do it all over again. Doing that would have greatly undermined the the heroic tale of Luke, his epic battles with Vader, and the destruction of the Emperor through the sacrifice of Anakin/Vader. The fictional universe he created was rich and ripe for other stories to be told. These could have been set in the same universe, as long as Lucas (or anyone) left the wonderfully told and *completed* story of Luke, Han and Leia alone.
I went into this hating you because of the disrespectful tone and delivery of your message. I kept watching anyway and quickly realized you absolutely know what you're talking about; the *content* of your message is accurate and insightful. The deconstruction of this (these) movie(s) and comparison to Citizen Kane was the most compelling portion and exposes a masterful grasp of the fundamentals of good storytelling and filmmaking. Bottom line... sadly, you are right. I think the failure of Lucas in these movies is exponentially compounded by the failure of the green screen approach to filmmaking as you so aptly pointed out. Surely everyone with even a scintilla of filmmaking knowledge and talent is now aware this doesn't work, but the megacorp studios demand films be made this way. This sad fact means that only incredibly powerful directors can rebel against this woefully inadequate method of making movies (for example, Christopher Nolan and his approach to the Batman films he made). The fundamentally flawed process of making films with green screens, and the effects being made paramount, was a huge part of why these films failed. Bad dialog and boring editing just sealed the coffin.
The biggest reason for their failure, though, is the fact that they were movies that didn't need to be made. The story was complete in the original trilogy. The prequels and the sequels were just pointless money grabs, exploiting the love and reverence the fandom had for the original trilogy by picking over its bones.

He basically quit Hollywood partly because of the negative reaction to Anakin and it's kind of a shame because if you've seen him in literally anything else, he's pretty good.

@@zachplaysallday-zpad5731 lol wut? The prequels were largely shat upon for the better part of a decade before any Plinkett reviews came out. Virtually everybody in the sold out theater that I attended walked out of TPM shellshocked... "was that movie really as bad as I thought it was?" was the general vibe. And while I don't agree with every argument Plinkett ever drops, the prequels are dull and filled with otherwise good actors looking bored while reading horribly written dialog. Lucas is a great idea man, but he's at best mediocre as a director and writer. I give him all the credit in the world for catching lightning in a bottle back in 1977... but in hindsight he really, really needed to approach the prequels the same way he did ESB and RotJ... come up with some story outlines then outsource the detail work to others.
As far as the whole Disney thing... Lucas was almost 70 years old when he sold out. He wasn't going to helm another 6-7 years of a sequel franchise... and even if he didn't sell out, he was the one who put Kennedy in charge prior to the sale. At the time, I was excited about the sale just based on the job Disney had been doing with Marvel at that point. Of course, TFA was a bit meh and the next two were even worse... But I don't think anybody could have predicted how badly Disney would whiz this one down their leg.

The biggest missed opportunity from the prequels is that Darth Vader didn’t come from an abusive father.
A prequel provides context to the original. A _good_ prequel provides context that enriches the original’s subtext.
Just rewatch that scene where Vader is going back and forth between the Emperor and Luke as the latter is being tortured. And imagine that Vader used to be in that position himself, pleading “Father please!” You can see just how much better that scene becomes in that context.
You also get new understanding of Vader: why he might have left Luke (because he feared that he too would be a bad father), why he wanted power, why he wanted it for Luke, and his relationship with the Emperor could be recontextualized as a misleading father figure.
The biggest thing from the original as far as Vader goes was his relationship with Luke. The prequels missed out on mirroring that by not showing us Vader’s relationship with his own father.

There was an attempt to bring that angle with some of his interactions with Obi-Wan, particularly in _Clones._ Had Lucas made that idea more of a focal point, the _"you were my brother"_ line could have even been a great final blow, but instead it falls flat and just further undermines the whole _"and he was a good friend"_ concept.

I know quoting the extended universe is kind of a shitty excuse for the way the film doesn't explain it properly, but yeah, the agony definitely has something to do with the surgery - Palpatine purposefully kept Anakin awake through it to help fuel his rage and further grow his connection with the dark side. As for the suit, it was a factory production model, not something that was tailor-made. In fact, it was all from pre-existing, outdated technology (a punishment from Palpatine for Anakin being so careless on Mustafar), so it was intentionally designed to be uncomfortable and more restrictive than what they potentially *could* have given him.

    Good point about Vader.
I think in Epsiode 4 (so when it aired, before the dark times, before the prequels, sequels,… ok, you got the reference) Vader was more like the Emperor’s eyes and ears and a field agent. It is mentioned that the Emperor was busy getting rid of what was left of the senat, so the structures of the Republic. At the same time, they tested the Death Star. So Vader was there. At that time, he was there because he had served the Emperor well in the times before. But he was a rudiment, a relict. He was no longer needed.
The high ranking officers made fun off him and his religion. He listened to Tarkin, but for me it always seemed like he had to. I guess the Emporer order Vater to listen to what Tarkin says and not caise unnecessary trouble on such an important day.
Would they dare to make fun of him, if he was second in command? Wouldn't he be too important to be in the field all the time?*
The Death Star was destroyed, so the Emperor could have thought that he cannot rely just on officers. He needed Vader, a veteran he can count on. Someone who was willing to take the risk himself, like he was the only high ranking member who immediatly joined the fight when the rebels attacked. From that point onwards, he would rely on Vader again. This would also explain Vaders changed role in Episode V and why he is allowed to kill high-ranking officiers if they fail.
To anticipate that argument: In Episode 5 and 6 he is only in the field when it is about capturing or turning Luke. At Hoth he shows up after the fight is over.

    • @nutyyyy

Adding to that, the emperor wasn't really fleshed out in the original Star Wars, he was originally intended to just be a pawn basically. A lot of core story elements only came about in the writing of Empire. Vader being Luke's father, which wasn't the case in Star Wars, hence why Obi-Wan and Uncle Owen look like complete liars, though that's easily explained away in the OT and makes sense. And the Emperor wasn't going to be a force user either, just a guy.

and, important to point out here, the "Emperor" was just an ordinary man acc. to this movie, and there's 0 indication that Vader had any special rapport with him at all - although it's possible that he did.
He was a "relic" precisely because of this - "all that remained of their religion", the whole rest of the Empire were just worldly fascists in grey uniforms.
Couldn't have been much of a "relic" being the big Space Sorcerer Emperor's right-hand man, could he?
"Would they dare to make fun of him, if he was second in command? Wouldn't he be too important to be in the field all the time?*"
Or make fun of his religion as a bunch of hocus pocus "sorcerer's ways" if it was also the Emperor's religion?
"The Death Star was destroyed, so the Emperor could have thought that he cannot rely just on officers.
At Hoth he shows up after the fight is over."
In V the Emperor only shows up to Vader in an isolated ritual room - this could be a ceremonial thing, or it could mean that he was still hiding from everyone else and only revealed himself as a creepy looking wizard to the rest of the government in VI.
Also, Motti making fun of him and then promptly getting choked and surprised by it, would only really make sense if this isn't something that Vader had had such a frequent habit of doing until that point - suggesting that he was already in the process of becoming "bolder" with this sort of stuff as early as that.
(Or, well, it would make even more sense had Vader joined the Empire not too long ago, or the Empire had just freshly formed recently - this would explain Motti's impulse to unload all this on him in this fashion, rather than rolling his eyes and just going along with it like for the last 10+ years.
But if they've just recently been introduced to each other, then it's understandable why Motti would go "huh, this guy with his talk - the moment I meet him I'll tell him like it is" and act like this at the first opportunity lol.)
So it IS kinda possible to read this kind of in-universe shift into these contradictions - that The Emperor had been hiding his true nature and appearance from everybody until at some point around or after ESB, and he and Vader were becoming bolder about displaying their powers as a threat against subordinates.
First perhaps emboldened by the Deathstar (even while scoffing at it lol), and then as a result of it failing.
Obviously one shouldn't forget the real reason which is that this was all a retcon and re-tool that ESB did, but still quite a compelling bit for a piece of offscreen headcanon.

49:45 this actually made me feel legitimately sorry for Nute Gunray. Maybe he's more ferocious or less sympathetic in other media, but in the prequel trilogy he's beyond pathetic, completely helpless. He gets totally and completely milked for all his resources year-in and year-out through out the 'Clone Wars,' is lied to and gaslighted at every turn, and then has his life taken from him when he's off no longer of use. His entire perception of reality is just completely gone by the end of the third movie ("Lord Sidious promised us peace"). It's hard for me not to feel bad for someone that helpless.

Kingdom Hearts is part of my childhood and I love the first 2 games, however the series spiraled into the most confusing plot hole ridden story with too many spin offs and more cluster and convoluted stories handled poorly unlike other series that have pulled it off well.
Anyways the Prequels aren’t flawed as some believe. There are virtually zero plot holes in the Prequels. The themes it tackles are handled perfectly. The complexity is on another level compared to 99% of other films.

@@damkylan3 This is perhaps the worst take and video of ROTS I have ever seen.
What a horrible face valued opinion of Rots. Its easily the best Star Wars film. It has so much development, emotion, development, etc. Its weird how people cant see that there is literally an evil mastermind taking over the world through politics while grooming an apprentice to totally screw over the Jedi. I love everything about Rots. The complexity and depth of the story is downright incredible. I dont understand how people complain about the acting when they have the best cast of actors. Also the best script in all of the Saga.
How you can think this movie is boring amazes me. This is probably the worst review I have ever seen, every part is laughable and not true criticism. The part where you said the beginning was a waste and is useless just shows me you dont understand how its showing Anakins turn, Obi Wan and Anakins Master and Apprentice dynamic, etc.
Some people just cant comprehend the Prequels, I dont understand it. There are people who understand and see the complexity of the Prequels and then there are people who have the most outdated opinions from 1999, and get all man child mad because its not their beloved Heroes Journey type story.
Look I love the OT but its a simple Heros journey. Also the action in the Prequels makes more sense because they are supernaturally enhanced beings. The OT had more technological restraints the Prequels expanded on the fight greatly, the amount of talent and great choreography training they had is incredible and honestly the best in cinema as is the world building. How each character fights differently like Yoda or Dooku for example, Anakin and Obi Wan. The lightsaber forms and all that went into it is a masterpiece.
You literally complained about him being a murderous villain when he literally chokes his subordinates in the OT. Then You complain he is angry and has darkside tendencies when its literally a story showing how he was seduced by the darkside. This video is horrible, Im sorry. People just don’t understand the Prequels. It amazes me. Plinkett made a horrible video and couldn’t comprehend a single aspect of these films. Good job.
Geez the OT fanboying needs to stop. There was a lot of “weird” storytelling in those as well. But give them a pass because its nostalgia bias. In fact I am willing to debate that the OT has way more strange storytelling and weirder storytelling aspects than the Prequels by a large margin.
A brief synopsis of what I have said in other comment sections is the Prequels are how about a powerful and intelligent Sith Lord quite literally takes over an entire galaxy not just through sheer force but through every system like politics for example and also cultural. Sidious is the best Antagonist in cinema and the Prequels show this.
Anakins turn and development is masterful. One of the best on screen developments in cinematic history. He literally turns from a talented goal driven slave child, into a manipulated and distressed teen, then into a literal broken pawn for another mans evil plans. We see how Anakin was the chosen One and how they found him, the prophecy, we see just how powerful Anakin is and how powerful he will become if led down the right path even the wrong one if it went a different way being and evil dictator had he not lost his limbs. There are so many layers to Anakin that he develops constantly throughout the Prequels. His whole story is a tragedy and well told one. How he is manipulated by Sidious, sees the flaws in the strict Jedi ways, how they go against their own philosophy but are strict in other aspects like keeping the peace. Going back to Anakin though he has some of the best on screen struggle I have ever seen and I can relate to his struggles, his desires, etc. Anakin/Vader is my fav character of all time.
Georges worldbuilding amps the Original Trilogy even more making it an even more unique and incredible world. The intricacies of each facet is great imo, new ships, political systems, cultures, races, alien species & races, Sith & Jedi lore, etc. All amped and improved from the OT. The only other worldbuilding done this well in any other film franchise is Lord of the Rings and Tolkien also wasnt a film maker, George is so him juggling both is and incredible feat. People just hate and hate on George for no reason.
The Prequels are quite literally masterpieces imo and this Plinkett review is atrocious. The lack of comprehension for the Phantom Menace when it came out was horrible and the loud minority screwed over a lot of peoples views.
Plinketts review had 0 substance and my paragraphs are better rebuttals and debunks to this video in my personal opinion as this video is a pathetic and quite “stupid” review. Just bumbling idiotic nonsense.
Some people simply don’t give George credit where its due. Sure he has made some questionable decisions and what not but the Prequels are not flawed. In fact I would argue the Original Trilogy is the flawed one out of the 2. The Original Trilogy is more of a flawed masterpiece than the Prequels imo. Dont even get me started on the Sequels though. They are the worst films of all time imo.
