  • It's been whirlwind since finding out that I had Stage 2 Malignant Melanoma yesterday and today we are heading in to get it removed along with a margin of skin around it. We're grateful that it wasn't worse but also a little nervous about the procedure.

Couldn't help but notice all the guys sitting on the couch when Meghan was leaving, only the girls gave her hugs, but when she got back all the guys were lining up to see the gross pictures, so typical of boys LOL. Keep strong Meghan, we're all rooting for you. ♡

I am the one with a dark complexion amongst a family of blondes and redheads, but one day when I was 29, I literally woke up to a life-long mole on my chin that went from a nice brown color to a weird shade of green. My doc sent me to Mayo the very next day and they removed the cancerous material. I was the one who was never worried. I am so very glad that you noticed and acted upon your instincts. God Bless. And please take care.

Glad you are doing well Megan. Thank you for having it checked out instead of ignoring it. My mother-in-law had a small Melanoma removed from her shin when she was in her late 70"s. She was always thin & thus thin legs as well as being older & having thin skin. To get the clean boarders, they had to take out an area of a large saucer. She was always very concerned about her appearance & resigned to wear long skirts or pants, but thankful they got it all. The incision healed well but left a scar. After about 3 yr you could hardly see the scar & she was back to wearing any clothes she wanted. Never had any other occurrence but did have annual skin checks.

My mom’s melanoma started like yours with a mole and a chunk cut out...and no progression. It was 5 years later that it came back and took her life . So please make sure you stay up on your checkups. Love your family and sorry you’ve had to experience this. Praying for your continual health Megan.

Had a weird mole some years ago. I went to the dr and thankfully it wasn't Melanoma yet, but he said there was an 80 percent chance it would have turned into Melanoma. I got it removed and have never had a problem with any more. Hang in there Megan. God's got this.

Megan, you are an inspiration. You are so open and honest and your vblogs are great. You and your family entertain us, educate us and help us in our own lives. Thank you for sharing your family and lives with the world. We adopted a special needs child from China many years ago and this past May she graduated as Valedictorian of her high school and now is attending BYU. We had 5 children by birth, 5 by adoption; the last 4 were a sibling group from East L.A. You are such an active woman that laying in bed is probably driving you nuts, but what you went through and shared with us has given me so much to think about. I've been avoiding going to have a mole on my face checked out and listening to you and your feelings has strengthen me. You are fantastic and a wonderful person. I hope your down time goes quickly and you enjoy your fantastic life. I'm a fan...and a subscriber!

You are so right about the mold profile. I have removed many, after my melonoma scare. The one that was cancerous looked totally different from the others. A small mold, that turned black in just weeks. You still look great from your bed and unwashed hair! Don´t worry. Hope you heal quickly. I am a single mother, lost my husbond to cancer, and I developed anxiety attacs after this ordeal. Go an see a therapist if you need to, I didnt, until now, 5 years later.

Hi guys, just found your channel. Love your big family! I'm not sure if you have ever heard of Emily Hayward. She's a vlogger from England. She recently passed away from cancer. She was seventeen, when she discovered a mole on her calf. That mole was the beginning of a long, ardous journey for this awesome young woman. Emily lost her battle with cancer, but she never stopped being positive, and she was able to marry her partner, Aisha before she passed away.I am so happy you caught yours early. God bless, and I hope you're healing well. ☺

Megan - thank you for sharing this scary episode of life. We all know "God's got this" but we still have to walk through it. Yesterday I was having what I thought was my post surgery clean bill of health when I mentioned a rash that hadn't gone away since January...a few months ago my PC thought it was probably related to a little infection I had going on, that the skin nearby was irritated...got rid of the infection but the rash didn't go. Asked the gyn surgeon yesterday to look...and he said he needed to biopsy it right away. NOT what I was expecting to hear. I instantly thought of you but realized I am not alone in this, my Heavenly Father has this, and I am surrounded by friends, family, and others (albeit via TH-cam) who are going through it also. Again, thanks for your sunny attitude, being real, and God bless!!

I am so glad you went to the dermatologist and had the mole checked. I live in Florida and skin cancer is rampant here. My boyfriend had melanoma on his shoulder about three years ago and he is fine. I had basal cell on my nose at 29 so I have been careful about the sun. I didn’t know melanoma is most common on the legs. I swim every day and wear a swim shirt but now I have started putting lotion on my legs, thanks to your comment. I wish you a speedy recovery. You are blessed that you have a husband who is so engaged with the needs of the family.

I've had 3 of them removed, joys of a childhood in Australia before anyone used sunscreen. Yes it can happen to you, go in & get those moles checked people. Doctors would rather tell you that weird mole isn't anything to worry about than have you not come in & get it checked out. Also check your scalp, hair partings are a common place to get skin cancers that no one thinks to check. With 11 kids I'd suggest lots of hat & shirt wearing & huge bottles of sunblock for all the kids to save them from the same problem later in life.

I always checked my body for anything out of the ordinary and back in may I was spot popping along my hairline (TMI?) and I parted my hair and found a mole/mark just above my ear I had never seen before, and I would have never thought about checking that area for anything... but thankfully I finally have my dermatologist appointment a week today so I will finally know after over 2 months of waiting.. so yes I also highly recommend checking all over your scalp, people :))

I’m from Arizona, out in the States, where it’s literally a desert. This week it was 115 degrees. I know more people who have had skin cancer than any other type of cancer. It’s a normal way of life for people out there to see a dermatologist once a year for a check up. They look over every square inch of your body. I’m talking EVERY crevice. You name it lol. But it will save your life. Simple and quick visit. Better than going to the Gyno for a pap smear.

Hello wwaxwork I am from Australia too and NZ and grew up with baby oil and constant burning. We knew no better and told no better. I had blisters some times it was that bad. I was blonde and green eyes. I have had 8 moles removed 6 have been skin cancer. The last two Melanoma. I have 17 the my Oncologist calls suspicious and weird. Two have started growing Melanoma. I have my next appointment in August. Where are you from in Australia? How is your journey going?

wwaxwork I know this is an older video but I’m glad I read your comment. I’ve had two strange bumps on my scalp right at my hairline and have always been told not to worry about them. My family has history of melanoma and after seeing this, I’ve decided I can’t just trust my GP to tell me if it’s benign or not. I’m going to set up a derm appt to know for sure.

My Dad had malignant melanoma....it was from a tiny spot on his arm..they operated on him and removed all his lymph glands....they gave him 3 months to live...he was an anglican priest. He talked to Jeshua and asked to live longer ..like anyone he had lost his way...he nearly lost his faith...he wanted to do a better job of serving the lord. He lived another thirty years. Like you Megan both my sister and Dad had red hair colouring and needed extra pain killers...in fact my Dad came out of a general anesthetic once in the middle of an operation..he felt paralysed but he felt the entire thing...said it was horrendous. Moral of the story always ask for extra. painkiller..and then some...haha. Love your brilliant smile..your open candour...and your stunningly open and radiant heart. Very hope filled for a superb recovery . CHEERS.

It’s not ugly, it’s beautiful! What would be ugly would be to have 9 kids and to be in such denial and stubbornness that you’d let the melanoma just go ahead and take your life! No matter how the melanoma eventually goes, you just added years to your life by facing reality and fighting back with bravery and intelligence. What will you do with that time? Have adventures with your grandchildren? Take a second honeymoon, alone with your sweetheart? Run for Congress? The possibilities dazzle the mind! You have taught you kids more about how to live by getting yourself to your doctor than anything they learned by touring the world. I say it’s time for a party! Good job, Meghan!

I’m so glad you are well! It’s so important to get your skin checked. A friend of mine’s sister put off getting a mole checked until after her pregnancy and it ended up being melanoma. She passed away after putting up a long hard fight for her life. It’s such a simple appointment that the dermatologist does. Doesn’t take long at all, and it literally could be a lifesaver!

Megan...I wish I looked as good as you with no makeup. You’re a natural beauty. I’m so happy that you made it through the procedure with no complications. Prayers for a positive outcome on the results of the tests. I had no idea about abnormal moles and what it could mean and also had no idea of the amount of skin removed. I’ve been using TH-cam and surfing 🏄‍♀️ the web reading info on it all. The Mayo Clinic is my go-to for accurate info. May God continue to Bless you with good health. Thanks for educating those of us who had no real idea about melanoma. 💞

I want to take the time to thank you. After watching this I realized I have a "funny" mole on my thigh. Today i realized it's looking even weirder. I will be calling the dermatologist tomorrow morning.

I am so glad your surgery went well and you are healing. We have not had good cell signal while we have been in the northeast so we are behind on our TH-cam. We finally purchased a Weboost which helps some.

I’m so grateful you had a successful procedure! I’ve scheduled a dermatology appt for 7/31. There was NO close up examination at my initial skin cancer screening a couple of years ago. I’ll be going to a different dermatologist this time. I’m so happy for you, Megan!! Good News!! You stay in bed and relax, how often does that happen? Rest.......your body has been through a lot! I’m grateful you had a positive conclusion to this cancer scare. May God Bless and heal you quickly. May God Bless and watch over your whole family!

I had melanoma on my arm where a big birthmark was, and now I have a scar that goes all the way across my bicep. Don't worry about the scar! You forget about it after a while, and at least it wasn't somewhere super noticeable like mine. lol Having a scar is so much better than dealing with cancer treatment, we are very very lucky.

I am so glad that you had the mole removed and had the doctor due a full body check. I had two spots that weren't moles that were basal cell carcinoma and another spot that was not cancer. They formed a triangle on my lower leg. It took two surgeries to get all of the cancer removed and over a year to get the site to close and heal. About 4 days after the 1st surgery I went back to work and bent down to pick up something and the incision tore open, it became infected and wouldn't heal. Even when you can start moving about, please continue to use caution for a few more weeks to allow the site to heal.

I am glad that things went well. Megan, get your rest. While your mind may think it is capable of getting back in the swing of things your body needs time to heal. You have been through a lot both emotionally and physically in the past few weeks so just ease into it. Keeping you and the family in my prayers.

Best of luck in the healing process! DOn't know if you are needing anything for pain, or are taking anything, but Bromelain is a nice natural product that can help! I heard about it from an Ortho surgeon, and use it now as needed.

In New Zealand we have a service that we pay for and it mole maps with a special machine - so when you go back in a year or so they get out your old file and compare the mapping from earlier and they can overlay the moles form the different maps

I'm glad that your surgery went well. I'll pray that the margins come back clear. I had a Mohs surgery at 15 to remove a borderline melanoma. I was glad that my art teacher had educated us about melanoma. I hate to think what could have happened if he didn't. I'm glad that you caught yours relatively early.
