  • Another demonstration of the prototypical engine sound behaviour that can be achieved through a well-executed sound project and careful use of the DCC throttle/controller.
The decoder being used here is an ESU LokSound v5 XL DCC that has been modified using their LokProgrammer interface and software.
The model has been fitted with two, identical metal-cone speakers - one in the (modified) water tank and one in the body (beneath the opened-out exhaust port) - and a "slab" type mega-bass speaker, affixed to the underside of the roof. Total impedance = 4 Ohms.
The sound here makes for an interesting comparison with Bif’s Class 26 project (see my other video for more info.) - the Class 27 has a bit more “teacup” that I prefer to hear in a Sulzer Type 2.
The eagle-eyed might spot a couple of minor cosmetic changes that I’ve made to the Heljan model as delivered:
    - cab window interior rebates painted black (Heljan has them yellow - looks weird to me)
    - half-round beading to cab-sides and roof repainted yellow (Heljan has them blue - ditto)

Thanks for your kind comment. I would say “Have a go!” 🙂
Wagon kits can be a great but inexpensive way to get started. Even if you don’t have room for a layout, they can make nice static models (see my other video “weathered wagon miscellany”). All the best to you Bernie.
