    Ooh, now I'm even more sure I need this expansion. Love me a good adventure full of surprises, and I agree upon the long-term goals - it makes it really sth to aim for.

    Can Pearlbrook be used as an expansion to the Solo game?

    • @rahdo
      @rahdo  6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      yes, there are solo rules for the expansion as well :)

    The price of the game was really steep for me tand after watching your rundown ... I think this is a pass for me ! Great video thanks !

    I just can’t understand why the trend now is make a perfectly balanced game and then unbalance it with an expansion that only adds randomness. I prefer to buy mire games than indulge on this kind of expansion, but it’s so sad not to have the chance to expand a great game perfecting it instead of adding gambling, luck and unbalancement

    I love the base game, and am backing for it this time! (played someone else's copy) The expansion looks incredible and I'm getting that as well. But...it almost looks like the Pearl objectives are so powerful, combined with having to discard cards, that there seems a danger that you end up focusing mostly on the Pearlbrook stuff to the exclusion of the original game. Did you find this in any of your plays?

    • @rahdo

      not an issue. if you chase after those big items, they take a ton of time and resources, and during that time, others are building stronger engines

    I thought the Wonders were something additional and were not replacing the elder Tours!
    I liked them, and these are way too valuable!
    Everdell is fantastic but I think this expansion could get a bit too tricky

    Seems like if someone builds a wonder then all players need to also imo. I dont see how you could compete if you didnt. What do you think?

    • @rahdo
      @rahdo  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      that's a LOT of saving up to do to build that wonder, which wasn't spent building other things that give you ongoing abilities. the wonder is just points. so i wouldn't call them "must do", just "one more option" :)

    • @ryanrose8712

      Makes sense just seemed like a lot of points. I trust your opinion:)

    12 months until fullfillment. Seems so far away.

      The original Everdell Kickstarter had an estimated fulfillment of December 2018, but shipped in mid-July. Hopefully they do the same here, but we shall see.

    Love the review! Think I'll love it as I loved the Seafarers expansion to Catan for the same reason. Fog brings element of exploration and surprise.
    Hate the whinging going on the KS though esp over price. Such a CMON effect of price must equal lots of components. Sorry I'd prefer a quality of game and paying for design thought than having plastic puked on me.

      I disagree that it's a matter of lack of bling, but rather a lack of content. I'd much rather it was just a bunch of cards to shuffle into my deck than what's shown here.

    • @Vascariz

      @@mkitten13 there's plenty of content in terms of game elements if you bothered to watch the video

    • @mkitten13
      @mkitten13 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Don't ever assume that someone hasn't watched/read something just because they happen to disagree with your opinion. Being a fairly big fan of Richard, I do watch a lot of his videos, this one included. And no, there isn't plenty in my opinion, certainly not warranting paying almost as much as the base game. Pearlbrook essentially replaces the basic events, just making it a two-step measure since you first need to qualify to place the frog ambassadors (and like Richard, I'm not too keen on the unknown factor of having the card revealed only when the ambassador is placed) and you need to pay a bunch of stuff to construct the wonders. Then you have a couple of adornment cards that you have from the beginning of the game, which more or less is on par with the Legendary expansion in the CE (which certainly is really good, but certainly not worth the price tag).
      For 20-25 I wouldn't complain. The production quality would make me accept 30 despite the little content. But the initial 45 and the "reduced" 39 is just far too much, especially with shipping being 18 (this really cannot even remotely justify the 57$ total price tag). The expansion box is also oversized for its content, which majorly contributes to the shipping cost, which is even more riddiculous since vast majority of people prefer to combine expansions into the base box.

      @@mkitten13 blah blah cheap... that's all I read. If you don't like the changes doesn't mean they aren't worth anything.

      I tell you what, come back to me when you have an actual compelling argument for why I am "wrong", and not this lazy "I cannot come up with an argument, so I'm just gonna disregard everything you said" BS

  • @jibbyjackjoe
    @jibbyjackjoe 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    So you can waste your time and whiff on getting any benifit from going here? These strategies won't be used. This expansion is a hard pass as written.

    • @Vascariz
      @Vascariz 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You still get the pearl. And you can anticipate they usually need about 2 resources. Pearl and berry etc so you can be prepared before sending in a worker.
      And the upside of an additional turn is a huge incentive and a bit of push your luck
      Like in most exploration games...

    • @rossparker01
      @rossparker01 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      And you're not really wasting any time... You can't use that frog worker to go anywhere else, so you might as well use him to get a pearl, and then you can use that pearl to activate your adornment/personal goal cards.
