  • Mothballed and on the shelf for 37 years, this will be it's first controlled power up in nearly 4 decades! A prelude to its restoration, I needed to know where it's coming from so I can eventually get it fully restored.

    It is one of my 3 oscilloscopes, I bought it many years ago and inside and out, it looks like it just came out of the assembly line. I don't recall ever using it.
    Thanks and take care.

    I saved an EICO Mod. 460 O'scope from the trash pile at a repair facility I worked at in the '90s;
    I haven't looked at it, but a recent move uncovered it and I have it on my to-do list when my bench is set up at my new home...
    Thanks for posting this video; yours looked really clean!

      Yeah mine's in pretty good shape since it's been in storage so long and rarely used since I got it as a teenager.

    Thanks Michael. I also own (3) scopes but I use my B&K the most. The EICO holds a special place for me since it was my 1st one of my younger days.

    I have this same scope on my bench downstairs. It was my Fathers. I'd love to learn how to use it, but right now, its just a reminder of my youth.
    I also have the Eico 324 Signal generator, and Eico 249 Voltmeter/Ohmmeter.......Great video...

      They are easy to learn how to use and even more fun to play with, especially if you have a signal generator to input a signal. You can get an assembly and instruction manual here if you don't have one... pacifictv.ca/schematics/eico460manual.pdf

      @@DVRproductions52 Thanks for the reply!! I used to play with it when I was young, plugging in a microphone and watching the waves, but these days, other then that, I also tinker with all my vintage amps and would like to learn more about using it as a diagnosing tool. I do also have the Eico signal generator, but the lead is shot, a I would love to learn to use the generator as well...I downloaded the manual, thanks again!!

    My first scope. I wired it from a kit.when I git drafted into the army I sold it. I truly believed that I was not coming back from Nam. What I didnt sell I gave away. Low and behold the army sent me to Germany.

      That's the way it goes in the service isn't it? I was supposed to go to 'Nam in '72 but a last minute reverse screw-up of the orders stuck me in Wyoming for 4 years instead. Not complaining though.

    I'm picking up a Eico 460 tomorrow. How would I discharge the CRT? Is there a ground lug on the power cord, should one be installed?

    • @DVRproductions52
      @DVRproductions52  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ya know there really isn't an anode cap like on TV's & monitors. I'd just discharge each pin on the neck with a 100 ohm resistor. As for the the power cord, you can use a 3-wire ground but it really isn't necessary since the EICO has a transformer in it. Another reason to keep it 2-wire would be to keep the input jacks truly "floating". If you notice there is a removable ground strap on the input jack (ground to chassis). To keep the ground at the same potential as your unit under test. (Radio, amplifier etc.) -- In short, I don't think it matters much. For these older scopes, I prefer the 2-wire power cord myself.

    If it were me, I would replace all the caps, if not physically leaking they are more than likely electrically leaking.

    what does it even do i dont understand the point of it and im trying to figure it out, if you anyone can tell me what its for that would br great thank!

    • @DVRproductions52
      @DVRproductions52  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Mason, the primary function of an oscilloscope is to display a graphical representation of electrical signals as waveforms. The horizontal axis (X-axis) typically represents time, while the vertical axis (Y-axis) represents voltage. Oscilloscopes are invaluable in troubleshooting faulty circuits. By observing the signal, you can identify issues such as signal noise, distortion, and unexpected signal behavior. Hope this helps you understand the value of an oscilloscope.

    Great video, but please get rid of this annoying background sound track. Incredibly annoying and distracting and your presentation stands great by itself without the need for some questionable audio "enhancement".

      Yeaaaah, I was just feeling whimsical that day & thought I'd try something fun and different. Probably won't do it again though. 😁

    I did not like the crowded noise in your video. Too distracting. I would not watch videos that are distracting.
