  • With seven Winter X-Games gold medals and a career spanning twenty years, Tanner Hall has cemented himself as an icon and legend in the sport of skiing. Now, at age 35, he’s decided to enter the Freeride World Tour; a five-stop competition circuit in which skiers are judged on their ability to descend through rugged, un-groomed terrain. Having never competed in a freeride competition, Tanner embarks on the latest chapter of his career, struggling against the limits of an aging body while confronting the darkest memories of his past.

Wow so many memories come flooding back. I'm a snowboarder but we would watch tanners films and get inspired (no pun intended). Lot's of my group have grown up and and had families. Tanner is a rider who reminds me of so many incredible years in the mountains with a group of my mates that went through so much together. Thanks guys

I'm not a skier, but, nicely done. Saw Tanner at Mammoth last year at mid station waiting for the top to pop. This film brings a lot of context into his riding.

Tanner is 40 now and still killing the game, coming back from so much adversity for the love of the sport. You have to respect it.

Constantine's disappointment (?) at Tanner's decision to pull out before the Bec came off as sneering disapproval or seeming disgust ...total weaksauce. Tanner may have a lot of faults but his ability to gut it out through incredible physical/emotional adversity isn't one of them. Kudos Tanner for having learned enough over the years to listen to your body/brain telling you not to run the Bec. Not finishing the FWT season doesn't diminish his achievements one particle. Tanner Hall is a monster.

I work at squaw and have the replays of the freeride tour on most days so I've watched T's runs a bunch. I also coach big mountain and coached park for many years and what you really need to understand is how the judges are scoring. So there's definitely strategy that needs to be employed. Its different than park comps becuase there are way more variables involved. And also as a fellow quadro-genarian, you have to really have everything dialed in. A lot of competitors I
know get labs done often to track everything from hormone levels to iron to protein levels. And then adjusting diet and workouts around where theyre at physically. You can't stay out partying and then show up and kick everyone's ass like ya could at 20. Not at all saying that's what T was doing, I'm just comparing what the difference is as a high level athlete at 20 vs 40. It's hard and the days of having everything come so easy don't seem that far away so it can really be challenging mentally when you have to bust your ass every day just to do the things you could roll out of bed and do 15 years ago. It takes a lot of work and even more mental fortitude. Strong in the mind and strong in the body

Just watched while laying in a hospital bed waiting for back surgery. I was a Mammoth Unbound cat operator from 02-05. What went down there at that time was next level! Every day in those parks the best in the world were pushing the limits. I remember my first day in Mammoth riding up the lift. I looked down at the half pipe and here’s Tanner spinning 10’s right in front of me. I thought damn, this is exactly why I moved here! Thanks for the memories!

I've idolized Tanner for many years. Dude is the GOAT and only getting stronger. His values off the hill and what he believes in i would imagine that alot of us feel. To have the platform he does and the ability to peak his mind the way he does is a note we should all take. Great film!!
