I appreciate all the questions youve answered for me, but i have one more, out of all the portables and medium sized desktops which one will receive the best sw/ssb to listen to ameatuer radio ?
The middle of the longwave band picks up lightning static when thunder is just out of hearing distance. I used my radios on AM and longwave to predict the distance of storms back in the 1990s when I fished in a boat miles from where I launched. Don`t wanna get caught in an aluminum boat in an electrical storm.
I eliminated the horrible static source in my house yesterday so I can DX again. Was able to receive WCBS New York, NY without any help from my loop on my Grundig G6. That`s just shy of 1200 miles away. I ordered a Tecsun PL 310 et but in my order confirmation email they said they`re sending a Tecsun reel antenna instead of a radio. EDIT...got it straightened out and radio will be here soon.
The 15 is really good on MW, but lacks some of the bandwidth control the D4W provides. The 15 has a 200mm ferrite and is used more often in my home during the evenings versus the D4Ws auto-tuning.
@@todderbert I was considering getting an EP Pro. The latest versions are now coming back into stock. I really enjoy dxing US stations from the UK. Would this radio be worth getting or would its selectivity be too wide? Thanks.

I’m definitely putting this one on the list. The only complaint is that it looks a pain to find those specific batteries.
The EBL rechargeable Cs are great: amzn.to/30RiE4j
Definitely one of the better AM FM portables around. I have the PR-D5BR limited edition.
Just got a used D5, it is a beast on MW :)
@@todderbert Nice! I thought you already had a D5, or I would have sent you one of mine.

Great review I really like this radio . The display is a deal breaker if it's actually looks like the video.
It is view position of the LCD in this video, filming it from a down/up angle. Looking down as if it was on a table you would be able to read it well.
I like how lightning sounds on AM, but on FM, you can hear a station on an open frequency when the lightning is about 2-5 miles away.

Todderbert, I found a shortwave program you might be interested in called Ham Talk Live on frequency 5.085 at 7pm Central time, Saturday.
Hi. How does this radio compare with the D4W on AM? Is it more selective and/or sensitive?

@@alexlawler9515 Stick with the EP Pro. You can use external antennas with it.
@@todderbert OK, thanks. I'll order one.
Sangean PR D5 or D15 on AM sensitivity?
People have said D5, but I enjoy my Bass/Treble and 1kHz tuning on the D15.
How to keep orange display window on
Not an option on this radio.
FM frequency also sometimes headache.
