I was always scared of dogs (especially bigger dogs) as a kid - then I had two repeated encounters with them that helped change my mind; first, my neighbour had a very calm and chill (ha) Samoyed called Sasha. She was so lovely - my hand would just disappear into her fur when petting her, and she always had the famous Sammy smile.
The other was when my great aunt got a giant Rough Collie called Chief, and whenever I would visit he would always lay behind me, encompassing me in a kind of protective semi-circle. He would then silently but persistently look at me until I leaned back against him 😂 I ended up having a lot of ‘Lassie’ toys as a kid because I loved him so much.

My fear of dogs came from being bit by one as a toddler. Apparently, I'd ran up to one with a muzzle on before Mom could reach me. Not sure how it managed to bite my hand with a muzzle on, but I've always had remarkably small hands.
Thing is, I still *liked* dogs, I was just also terrified of them jumping and barking. I've mostly gotten over it, which is great because my sister has two and I help her run a kennel, but I don't think I'll ever be entirely comfortable with jumping and barking. Probably because of my overall sensory processing problems.

My family had a rough-coated collie when I was a child. We lived in a farm and my mom said any time I was outside he was with me. Once I was wondering in a corn field and they couldn't find me anywhere. Just when they were about to call the neighbors to help search, they saw the tail of the collie above the growing corn. They knew he was with me.

My family had a rough collie and let me tell you, that dog was amazing with children. He was so gentle with every child who came to the house. I remember once we are babysitting a friend's toddler, and the kid cried for nothing really major just the usual toddler frustration. He rested his head on the kids shoulder and just pressed his cheek against the kids cheek until he stopped.

I found a Samoyed wandering my neighborhood years ago. He was very friendly, and made a great pillow to watch tv on in the evenings. We searched around but no one recognized him. Since I wasn't living where I could keep him permanently, we took him on walks everyday further and further afield to find his home. He didn't seem at all worried about rushing back to where ever that was. Finally as we were passing by a house he just turned off an strolled up the steps and stretched out on the porch. His owner came out when we knocked and was really happy to see him. It seemed he periodically went on walk abouts because she wasn't the least worried he'd been gone a week! Honestly I wanted to keep him. Years later I had a neighbor with a mated pair, they had puppies. I was in fluffy puppy heaven.

My poodle-beagle mix used to hate all samoyeds. I have no idea why. She didn't have any bad experiences with white floof, she just absolutely hated them.
...Except for one individual that she loved.

when i lived near a dog pound a long time ago they had this big ol' elderly samoyed that was just the cutest ball of fluff ever. you move her chew toy an inch to the side and she'd scream bloody murder tho... considering i was like, six, i'd say yes, samoyeds do act like five year olds LMAO

Having a Pyrenees husky, you’re pretty spot on. Seeing more on Pyrenees would be fun, everyone knows the husky attitude. He’s not even a year yet.

Samoyeds are the best breed. Super fluffy and yeah like a child. Very good with kids and other pets. We had cats and they would cuddle up to the Samoyed. Mine would go everywhere drive-ins, camping, mushing.

One you should do: Havanese dogs. They're originally from Cuba, which is a hot place so you'd think that they'd have short fur but no. They have double coats and they don't shed but they're super cute and sweet little guys

My fam had a Samoyed when i grew up still miss him tho keiko was a one of a kind loved being petted walking playin unfortunley we had to unalive him because he was gettin too old and was having a huge pain in one of his paws wich couldnt be cured so we took him to my uncle in Steinkjer to unalive him fortunley i didnt have to see them doin it but it was greatly painful for me when i noticed he wasnt in the dog pen and when i was about to go to bed i asked my mum and step dad where keiko was and they told me they had unalived him my heart broke he was almost as old as me and was my best freind i was about 9 years old that fateful day i was sobbin and cryin for over an hour in bed when i got the awful news atleast after the day of his passing my mum and step father took me to the cinema to watch Cats & Dogs 2 as a way to tribute Keiko's passing and memory
It was the saddest day of my life i lost great childhood freind that day but atleast keiko is in a better place now he would be about 22 years old this year 😭
Ngl it was kinda hard for me wrtiting all of this as each time i talk about keiko or hear a mention of his name i instantly become sad
Rip keiko you where the greatest dog and family dog couldnt of asked for a better dog and a freind i am happy i got to grow up in the same house as you❤
