What to Pack for College (and What's Already There) - UChicago!

  • Hey everyone! I hope everyone's summers are going super well! I'm personally doing pretty well. I'm in Milan, Italy for the first time ever, so it's been quite an interesting time from my end, for sure...
    Anyway, besides traveling around and working on a proposal for a University Theatre musical, one of the things I've been doing a lot of is responding to your questions about what to bring to college. I figured that this video would be useful in order to just lay out all of the cards on the table.
    This video details what pieces of furniture will always furnish the University of Chicago's dorm rooms, and what I personally suggest that you bring to campus when you move in this coming month! Hopefully, this video will be a helpful way to either edit your Amazon cart or start your research.
    My main advice, keep in mind while you're shopping that all of this will be stuff that you'll theoretically keep with you throughout all of college (and sit around your apartment beyond). While a light-up letter board is super cute, what will you do with it once you've given up on inspirational quotes? Just try not to fall for the clever, aesthetic advertising found on the Dormify website.
    No matter what dorm you're in this fall, enjoy my little video on what to pack for college and what's already there!
    Disclaimer: I’m obviously not being paid by The College for this video. This video is just a collection of my personal opinions.

      I'm glad you thought so! I know a handful of people going/were in North, and they all like it. Just don't let the posh dorm get to your head, lol. ;)

    Small correction: www.bedloft.com is the suggested fridge/microwave rental.
    There are no mirrors in South.

    Thanks for the helpful video! Moving into Woodlawn soon. I heard that paint peeling off due to command hooks is a huge problem in Woodlawn. I’m think of putting a few layers of painters tape on the wall and then put the command hooks/strips. Any other suggestions for how I can put things up?

      @ReeseKlemm  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not sure that'll work because sometimes the blue tape will peel off when you don't want it to. I think your best bet is just to stick with the command strips (or for small things, those Blue Tack things) and just be careful. Posters are fine with blue tape, but larger things definitely won't stay up with just tape.

    I'm moving into ihouse, how/when do we ask for desk size and bookshelf?

      I-House is primeee~~~! As for your question, I don't entirely remember the exact timeline; however, I remember that mover people were coming around and asking what I wanted/wanted to take away. I'm sure that your RAs can assist a bit more with the specifics.... Otherwise, I believe that you can file a "work order" and get specific things as well (usually they're used to repair/clean things).

    Your saying I won’t use my high school calculator in calc classes at uchicago really scares me out….

    • @ReeseKlemm
      @ReeseKlemm  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      ngl, especially depending on the class, it can be a lot of proofs, but so much of calculus is derivatives/integrals... so calcs don't work there clearly
