FYI this guy just beat Ymer in his first ATP debut... You got this dude
Mate you're like Djokovic. Incredible movement, excellent mental capacity, fighting every ball like it was last and not giving any free points. Then your opponent starts going for too big shots. Your serve is also easily top notch which isn't easy for your player profile.
I think you really have a chance to progress on your career.
Great job!
🙏👊
I agree. A player like Sjeng Schalken also had a very solid game, though even more solid strokes. But his serve was crap compared to the rest.
Leo is brilliant. Nothing like Novak. Novak is a tool and deserves nothing. Need him off the tour.
You make a really solid point about underarm serves. I do like to stand back a bit for serve returns, and it leaves me vulnerable to underarm serves. I’ll stay far back on return until my opponent does one to force me closer to the baseline. It’s a genuine tactic, and it forces some people to play in a way they’re not comfortable with.
Great insight, thanks 👊
The reason why underarm serves work is because they are super well executed. Underarm serves work because . They are waiting to see a ball toss that never comes.
Make a new rule: "all serves must start with a toss above the head" and the underarm/dropshot serve will no longer be effective because the returner will know when the point is starting.
@@ryanmathewfriedman and why would they make that a rule, lol
@@Simon.Freund
If you hit high loopy balls to him he is likely start to t-off and flatten the ball out with interest.
Simon, very humble of you! You actually gave a bagel with cream cheese to the iceman’s son (top 500 ATP) and said nothing but amazing things in the first set about him. Wow!! We gotta come up with a nickname for you here on YT. Let me think 😂 any suggestion tennis fam? Keep it going bro!!! VAMOS
Also you playing indoor events is starting to slowly look like Rafa on clay courts. Pure domination 🙏🏾
Yeah well Dopedal can win nothing now apart from clay!😄
@@pauljohnson6019 chill 😂
@@juliomunoz3772 I'm being serious- Novak will dominate most likely.
We keep workin 💪💪👊
@@pauljohnson6019 Alcaraz will give him trouble though
The undie-serve ace was electrifying! Fortune favours the bold. Completely caught him off guard and it sure looked like he was in ready position. To zero a Borg, what a feat! Impressive play especially the assertive volley game and solid serves that got you out of some tense moments. The two of you seem to have a similar game and you managed well his blitz forehands. Congrats Simon, wishing you a favourable 2023.
Thank you Charlie!! 👊
Did you guys notice Simon's cheeky 'fake out' right after the first underhand serve? lol - made me laugh. Leo was standing wayyy back again for the follow up serve.
Haha great catch 😂 was a little nick Kyrgios inspired there, I remember I’ve seen him do that after he’s done a underhand serve haha
Double faulted the next serve tho… so need to improve that a bit haha
Calm AF - wow Simon, you are really making amazing strides. Feels more and more like opponents need to become 'Soderling at the French Open' to beat you - ie high power, high risk for 2 sets. Fantastic stuff and the humility is awesome too.
Thank you Chris!
Wow. Bagel to the Borg. Awesome match Simon. When he splits step coming to the net, from behind, I see his daddy. Same body posture, movements. Other than that, he is his own player.
Killed it my guy, really my new fav youtube channel out there since couple of weeks. Commentary is so good and motivating for my own matches. Big love from Belgium man , keep grinding!
🙏👊
I watched this w my dad bc he grew up in the borg mcenroe age and all he kept saying was “the guy in the black is really good” keep grinding man love ur vids
Haha tell your dad I said thanks 🙏👊
You can tell that Leo (w/ his talent & strength) plays to overwhelm his opponents- when he realized you weren’t going to be intimidated, it looked like he was resorting to more low percentage shots to try and end the points quickly. Well played & well done! Thanks for sharing & the insightful commentary!
Hey Simon ,loved the video! I personally don't think there was anything wrong with the underarm serve hahahah. Infact ,I feel like you used it at the perfect time .Also feel the crowd was supporting Borg's son hugely .I'm not sure why, maybe because its Borg's son .Anyways ,I feel like with all that pressure you performed really well .Great match on both sides .You have been killing it recently . Best tennis youtuber rn for sure .
🙏👊
Simon absolutely tremendous win, I love ur content and u have quickly became my favorite tennis youtuber and keep killling it on the tour
Thank you, really appreciate your support 🙏👊
We need more like buttons here! I would have pressed all of them. Bjorn was and is my hero and I consider him the father of the modern forehand. I even consider his footwork one of the best I've ever seen, even for today's standards. You remind me of Bjorn quite a bit Simon with much of what you do...namely your calm and collect nature on the outside and a proper level of combustion on the inside (I'm of course just guessing about the internal levels...lol). I'm sure he's super proud of his super talented son.
I watched this video in amazement, mostly because of your abilities and what you did here. I am not going to spoil it for the viewers just in case they read my comment before watching but man, we're so proud of you Simon.
Congrats on the coaching platform, I will ask you for your help in the near future, as I am going through somewhat of a transformation myself.
Again, incredible match, against an amazing talent, and that says a ton about you at the level that you truly are...far above what your numbers suggest.
Cheers and looking forward for more!
M
Thank you for the kind words and your continued support and encouragement Munditimum 🙏👊
@@Simon.Freund No effort support ma man. Cheers!🙌
Awesome win Simon against a very talented opponent.
You can see that whilst Leo is very talented and hits a big ball, he is also erratic.
I'd imagine on his best days he's pretty much unplayable but on his worst, he can give quite a lot of cheap points away.
Awesome win Simon and well done👍
Thank you Grant!
I found your channel through instagram. Your commentary is very smooth.I can't play tennis anymore but around 4-5 years ago I managed to beat Leo on a TE U16 tournament. Was one of the best tournaments I've ever played,at the time he was like top10 in Eu and I barely had a ranking,so my family was going crazy about that win. So now I really hope Leo makes it to the top so I can tell people about it afterwards haha...
Have a great day man
First time visitor to your site, I really like this format where a player narrates his own game - really informative! Congratulations on your win! Good luck!
Thank you!
Lets get it Simon! I have witnessed a friend of mine John Echeverria playing againg Leo as well and John won, almost with the same score ad you did… great job man, FORZA😁💪🤗
please play more tournaments, I really want to see you play at a Grand slam this year. Youre a great player and you can really challenge these top guys.
Thank you for the kind comment and support!! In preseason now, gonna start my tournament season next weekend 💪
Wow! You are like a machine, hit aggressively with great depth, and corner to corner. He was struggling just to get the ball back but lose his positions or had to go big and missed!
👍👍👍
I look forward to these videos every time I see you post. Love the content man
Wow, incredible match! Well played on both sides!
Keep on going, Simon! You play really amazing tennis and your comments are always on point. You have a new subscriber from Colombia!🇨🇴
Thanks Daniel!
Your backhand reminds me of Jim Courier’s. It’s got that slightly-baseball-bat-bunt swing. I can’t break it down precisely, but wish I could. Glad you’re able to play so well against Leo.
Awesome insight - I loved Courier's backhand. Very cool spot.
Haha yeah, I really understand the baseball comparison. I feel a little funky with it sometimes, but like they say; “whatever floats your boat” 😂
@@Simon.Freund Sheesh. Honored to get a reply. Courier made Plaster of Paris 2x with his. Pretty sure you’ll get this pun, it’s a pretty good one.
Great match and good commentary! Enjoyed both.
going to be a huge season for you and we now have an underdog to root for on the tour.
Fantastic Match, Great Comentary! Favorite tennis channel by far! Keep grinding Simon, you definitely deserve it 🏆
Brilliant result …well done 👍🏼👍🏼
Nice one Simon. I noticed the backhand up the line shot won you a high percentage of points here. Great stuff. Keep going buddy.
Good shit Simon I think it's incredible that you are beating all these big players. Great gameplay.
Wow. Good luck against salk....tough opponent. Mirza basic.......I love the competitive attitude versus leo Borg. Of course not the same as Bjorn but for namesake. It's good how down to earth these people seem(you included). I appreciate your postings and voice commentary. Keep up the good work Simon. Cheers.
Great match again. Definitely your best level and complete match I've seen from your videos. Just keep it up. Can't wait for the next video. Happy New Year!
Happy new years! 👊
I’ve been waiting for this amazing content 🎉
😌👊
@@Simon.Freund going to figure out how to get footage of myself playing in order to send it!! Thank you for this great opportunity
I like how u now give the in game score and not just the set score
Really good serve and volley, I think you won all the points! Amazing, I’m trying so hard to get better in backhand volley
Gonna try to implement that more in the future!
Great match mate! 👏🏽
Love this kind of videos with strategy breakdown!
Great Video!! And I like what you said in the beginning, Leo really is his own player now and always, wish more people would let him be that! But gammal is still äldst for now 🙏🏼
👊
Very well played. I think he felt that you were better than him that day, so he couldn't close games easily and made many unforced errors. You got tight only in the end with your backhand, which is understandable, but I think you deserve to win pretty much any match so no need for that! :D
🙏👊
Killing it as always my friend♥️👍🏼
Bästa Taj 👊
Congratulations 🎉 happy for you
awesome match Simon, beating all these big hitters!
🙏👊
Nice match! More vlog videos 🙏🏻 love training and lifestyle videos 👍👍
🙏👊
Another great match!
experience v more explosive shots. leo reminds me of the first time i watched shapovalov at rogers cup, without the jump backhand
awesome tennis. Keep the good content going.
🙏👊
10:10 🔥🔥🔥🔥 insane stuff
T.o.m mot min barndomsklubb hejade jag på dig🤯
Vore grymmt att se dig resa mer i 2023
Haha 🙏 jobbar på det!! Lite knepigt ekonomiskt men försöker hitta lösningar!
Some of Berg’s shot selections are questionable. I guess he is still young. Simon played an impeccable game! Very intimidating! Your next opponent would be scared after watching this video:). My prediction is top ATP 150 sometime this year.
Thank you for the encouragement and support! I promise you I’ll do my best 💪
Wow great work at the net. There was a fast return that you hit a beautiful half volley winner on too. Any tips for practicing for in game volleys? You rarely error there.
I think it stems from a lot of practice and mini-tennis, I think that really helped me to “enjoy” being at the net and get comfortable there
Great video as always
Love the content!!
Great video, enjoyed it
Bro great match ,can you make a video on how to slide on hard courts
Congrats on your win!
Great match! After Roger Federer retired I thought I would lose interest in watching tennis because I had no player to root for. Right now instead of rooting for Tsitsipas, Musetti or Thiem my favorite player to watch is called Simon Freund! Keep going!
Also personally after losing two match points I know I would get tight and just hope not to choke the match away. Do you sometimes get negative thoughts like that during a match and if so how do you handle those situations mentally?
I guess this would give you a lot of confidence for the upcoming futures tournaments right?
Coolest bloke on atp! Keep focused super player!
Haha thanks big guy 💪👊
Underarms serves are the most underrated shot in tennis. If i am gonna underarm I always bounce the ball couple times check the opponent if he is ready and bounce couple more and under arm so that they can't cry like babies when they got aced and if they cry I shut them up by telling them they should have called I am not ready when I start bouncing the ball. If you want to see the true personality behind that person underarm them. If they cry keep away from them If they laught it off and start walking to the other side offer them a beer after the match :D. That is how I met with my wife. Now we have 3 kids underarming the shit of their opponents.
Haha this might be the best comment I’ve ever received!! 👊
10:37 teasing the drop shot lol, do you plan to play on atp tour events this year?
Need to get my ranking up first 😅 workin on it!!
Super freud jaj crack le hiciste saber que el apellido no lo es todo.. lo mandaste a la casa 😂
Love ur vids
Thanks Jay!
I would really love to learn from you, your form is immaculate.

Great match
Thank you!
Which string pattern of the blade do you use and do you use it stock?
I have 16x19 and yes use it stock 😃
Good game👍
Your a beast bro. Good channel
Was this before or after Stockholm dubs with Leo
That was a tasteful underarm serve ;) What racket do you use and what is your string set up?
Thanks max! I’m using a Wilson blade 16x19 with RS Paris strings 😃
@@Simon.Freund nice! what about tension?
Btw, i wonder if video support wont take some focus of ur tennis game. U probably wondered the same.
Don't know how I found this channel but you're handsome and really good. Subscribed!
Haha thank you, and welcome! 😃
Great match, now I have to find someone to video my game.
I’m gonna come out with some tips for filming your practices/games soon 👊 hopefully it’ll be of help
@@Simon.Freund Thanks man, I need all the gelp I can get.
You’re a hell of a player! How far are you from playing in challenger tournaments?
I’m currently ~#1000 atp singles and ~#450 doubles. For challengers I’d need to be ~500singles and/or ~300 doubles I rgink
Simon... One thing i noticed.. Don't you think he's a bit unbalanced in some shots? Like he has a great movement but sometimes he rushes the ball... Doesn't load properly and uncoils a bit too early and looses power and control on his shot?
Happens sometimes, but he has some nastyyyy power to it
Good job
Thank you!
Even ur unforced errors are unforced. 😆 Becuase ur opponent gets on his knees and thanks u. Its a complete hell to play against u, that im sure of. 🤣Great match. And great improvement on the already strong mental side, but needed to close out matches with a tight (big or small) lead. 🥳
Just a mattter or time until you win your first ATP Tournament!
I love the underarm serve. It was a good play for as deep as he was returning. He was an idiot for complaining about it.
You crushed him..Lol!
when are you going to play the us open :) I'm waiting haha
can we get a full story of your tennis journey from start to finish, full documentary....
10:38 I think this is a little bit disrespectful. However, great game, congrats.
Lets gooooo underhand serve
Simon goat
Mentally you got on top and stayed there, he really didn't think he was going to win the rallys and had to hit out to stand a chance.
damn bro!
new doubles partner🤔🤔
sheesh
Nice win though a single against a double isn't a fair match-up.
Good job! You if could easily beat an ATP 506 ranked player, your real rankings should be in the 300s.. ya?
Wish it was that simple haha 😬 gotta amass the points! Work in progress
@@Simon.Freund Yup.. long and lonely journey but I am sure u will get there! Jia You!
Have u ever thought of doing a collab with MyTennishq
36?
I don’t see any difference between a drop shot and an underarm serve. Both are meant to catch your opponent out of position. I’m not really sure why underarm serves aren’t used more often or how thier “disrespectful”. Shouldn’t drop shots be disrespectful too then 😂
if anyone is ever gets mad ab an underarm serve they're jus being babies its part of the game. people can be mad, but a point is a point. get good
Tennis is hard to understand sometimes. A couple months ago this guy on a simiar court, was a point from serving for the match against Tommy fucking Paul... now he wins 3 games against Simon Freund (no disrespect). And he gave everything...
Does this mean I should lose maybe 4-5 games vs Tommy? ;)
You win a lot , why aren't you in the atp top 100;
Need to amass a lot of points! Hope I can play a full season this year and then we’ll see where I land in the rankings 👊
@Simon Freund - Tennis i think that is easy for you, keep going!!!
You can tell your grandsons one day that u actually beat Borg!!!!
Wasn’t he your double partner lol😂😂
Haha yes, we played in an event together! Have a link to it in the bio 😃
ngl you kinda have a federer vibe to you lol
Players still…. Stay back to much… you hit these great shots and your opponent just slices it back. Get to the net!!
