I'm so excited!! Just found out that Mr. Jarvi will be conducting this very piece in my hometown in March 2024 with the Philadelphia Orchestra! I can't wait.
Hey, what a coincidence! I heard him conduct it in Philadelphia too and ended up here for a re-listen of this piece. It was fantastic, even better than this recording.
@@blintscav I was there too on the 22nd, it was incredible. Although the second movement started a bit too fast in the marcato first violins and the principal clarinetist was behind in that entrance, that was a very minor detail compared to the overall line of the piece.
@@tennislibra I've discovered that the first recording of any piece I heard as a kid is the one I prefer but that is a trap we all fall into. I have learned to appreciate all recordings for what they are. Forget about the critics. All they are, are frustrated musicians. Jarvi's facial expressions are priceless.
0:11 - Movement I - Andante - 11:00 13:22 - Movement II - Allegro Marcato - 19:04 - ‘Section 2’ 22:15 - Movement III - Adagio - 30:04 35:04 - Movement IV - Allegro Giocoso - 36:02 - Character 2 - 42:30 - Coda
What a terrific performance. Ive never seen Jarvi conduct like this before. So much passion and emotion. The finest interpretation of this great symphony that i have heard. Also the audio quality is amazing. It's as though the orchestra was in the room with me , lol. I could hear every single intrument . There are orchestral lines and phrases which i have never heard before. And i thought i knew this work well.
BRILLANCE. I am just learning about this composer from Russia. I had never heard of him before. I LEARNED ABOUT HISTORY AS A CHILD AND FAMILY BACKGROUND. I CANNOT GET ENOUGH. THE PASSION OF HIS CREATIVITY REFLECTS COLORS OF NOTES IN EVERY SOUND. EMOTIONAL DIMENSIONS THAT MAKES ONE FLY. THANK YOU FOR THIS. REVERENCE ✨️ ❤️ 🦋🌹🎻🎼🥁🎻🎻🎺🎼🎶🎵📯🎹🎵🎶🎼🎵🌻🌱🌾🌺🦋🌹
A. Alle gut. Aber diese Aufnahme ist schon besonders.
Fantastic performance! I get the impression that the musicians fear Jarvi and that pushes them to excellence. A wonderful video as well capturing the excitement of the piece and the players.
43:51 this change is one of the most thrilling part of the symphony, unfortunately the musicians (or just the pianist?) aren't in tempo. It's a pity. Anyway, excellent performance.
Yes, this is the coolest moment in this symphony. I remember when I heard this symphony for the first time, this very moment made me very happy. This is not typical and too avant-garde for Prokofiev, he did a great job.
Prokofiev, composed to praise the Soviet resistance fighting against the Nazis; today, Järvi applauds NATO and Ukrainian Nazis attacking the Russian people, ironic...

What is the pricing (range) to attend a performance like this? My last concert was Boulez doing Zappa at (IIRC) Alice Tully. It was affordable.
Great symphony, a masterpiece ❤. Amazing performance 👏 ❤
My favorite Prokofiev symphony conducted by my favorite director. Beautiful performance and sound. Thank you.
What brilliance!!! This is now perhaps my favorite rendition of the piece.
Do you think perhaps they took the tempo of the 4th a bit fast?
@@tennislibra perfect tempo !

Prokofiev's lofty, lyrical Fifth Symphony. A most excellent rendition of this mighty symphony. Bravo!
This is a brilliant rendition, have you also tried gergiev’s LSO

Paavo Jarvi oltre che bravissimo è anche molto simpatico!
This is a great symphony!
Paavo Järvi dirige au millimètre et transmets avec autant d'énergie que de raffinement. Admiration
Magnificent performance of Prokofiev great 5th symphony!!
Best performance of this masterpiece I have ever head!

Best rendition since the USSR State Symphony Orchestra perfromed it in 1945.
Such a powerful symphony. Brilliantly performed.
Never got to play it. Big regret.

He doesn’t seem too scary lol
I have met him twice. He is super nice.
@@elanorallmann He can be supernice and still be tough when it comes to performances
The opening theme has indeed a human message to it , like Prokofiev once said .
Love!
Awesome

This performance, and karajan's are the best ever ❤
Nicely played and great orchestra. Far improved from the Orchestre de Paris of the past. What are they wearing though?

Is the 3rd movement used in the Batman movie with Riddler and Two Face? Or does it just sound like it.

Heerlijk.
Didn't know Putin was auch a great conductor
Putin has a soul. It's just hidden Under all that madness...
Great 2nd movement. 1 and 3 a tad slow for my tastes. But it's a good performance. Spoilt only by the silly intrusive camera work.
I'm grateful for the "intrusive" camera. Jarvi's facial expressions and body language add to the the listening experience.
@@RR380 that's like a camera focusing on a tennis racket.... and not where the ball is going.
