i really like the historical aspect to a lot of the mythical kitchen videos, learning about the origin of certain foods, learning about how seasonings and things spread over the course of time, etc.
I really liked this! It gives Josh the perfect showcase to give his knowledge of food, and I really loved watching the small video snippets showing the prep of each dish. I think this could be a fun series for a lot of different types of food
Hafa adai! CHamoru here, born and raised on Guam, and I just want to say this brought such a big smile to my face to see someone talk about finadene' omg. I will admit I've never heard of this kind of fried chicken, but the important thing is you got the finadene' haha. Much love, si yu'us ma'ase
Someone needs to tell Josh about pollo al ajillo from Spain. Bite sized fried chicken pieces with crispy garlic finished in a reduced lemon and wine sauce? Get on it
This was the first time I’d heard anyone outside my family talk about finadene. It struck me in a way I’d never felt before, bringing up memories of countless family dinners where we made the sauce throughout my life. How almost everyone in my family prefers it when my sister makes it, and all the times I’ve tried to get better at making it myself. How I watched my island-born grandpa make it when I was young and how he probably used Thai chilies when he was going but used jalapeños now because they were easier to get stateside when he first came. As well as leaving me thinking about the generations before my grandpa, each making the sauce in their own way, their own memories intertwined with the meals they shared over it. It’s beautiful how strong the memories tied to the meals we eat can be, how deep the cultural ties run in something as simple yet fundamental as recipes passed down through generations, surviving despite everything their people have endured. Many thanks to Mythical Kitchen for giving me this beautiful experience.
I really enjoy the way Josh talks about the preparation of the dishes. I honestly think he does it much better than a lot of other food content creators. He gives some key insights as to why you do things a certain way and how the prep affects the protein at a deeper level. Really great!
As someone who was born and raised in Guam, it always surprises me when our home is mentioned. It also makes me happy that you made finadene to go along with the food since we have it with almost everything. 😊😊
As a middle aged brit I don't think I've ever had a parmo. Most chicken places I know only do the US style of fried chicken or the south African Peri Peri style. I would love to see you guys make some English dishes but none of that student stuff like beans on toast that everyone seems to think we eat. Much love from the UK, hope you're all having a great day.
Parmos are big in the north east, especially around Middlesbrough, Stockton, Darlington etc. It's hard to find a pizza shop that doesn't sell them along the usual pizzas and kebabs.
@@KingdomOfRust95 they are lush. i dont have them often but something about a cheese covered chicken served to me on a plate tickles my fancy, dont think id place them above the dicksons saveloy sandwich (dipped and stuffed of couse) though because they cost a bomb
As a Peruvian it is truly so refreshing to hear someone actually know our cultures food and how it came to be! I cant even tell you how many times people disrespect our culture!
Growing up in Guam and seeing the Guam flag on the thumbnail had me clicking SO fast. Then seeing the finadene on the plate made me super excited! Never thought I'd see that on this channel. Fingers crossed on seeing you find more Chamorro dishes cause I'd love to know your thoughts on them!
Hi! Fellow Peruvian hereI love that you tried our recipe and yes our culture is soooo diverse and I love that about it but as the hard food critic I am, there are some tips I recommend for the chicharrón de pollo is that instead of cornstarch you use potatostrach, and for the salsa criolla Aka the onion it's pretty simple you cut some onion thinly and leave in an ice bath and while you wait you make a mixture of lime, salt, pepper, very little oil and most importantly msg yes it does have some herbs but really only with chicharrón which is pork, after making you're mixture removed the onion dry and mix it with your concoction and it shouldn't be pink or anything they onion should look fresh hope you try it out :D
I know Josh isn't the best chef in mythical, but there's a clear reason why he's the the leader. He know how to host a show and he is a intelligent talker, he could literally host a actually serious culinary travel show like Anthony Bourdain. Where he talks about food and they're origins..... As much as I love Nicole , Trevor lilly and vi I don't think any of the could be the show runner as well.
I love this segment. I’m happy to see different takes on a beloved dish. Gotta keep an eye out for that chicken from Oceania I would say do soups as in soups parents make for when their kids get sick
really glad you managed to cover Antarctica. also nice that it wasn't necessarily a ranking, but just a lot of fun sharing of the different global flavors. I would love more of this, chicken or otherwise.
some type of spring roll next! i havent really researched it, but surely every continent has some type of ground meat wrapped in thin wrapper and deep fried. would be interesting to see what types of filling different continents use!
As a man from the North East of England I grew up eating parmos. I’m forty now and have only had 12 heart attacks! Seriously though, we do tend to serve some “salad” with a parmo. Depending on where you go it will typically be raw red or white cabbage, pickled cabbage, or a few places do creamed cabbage. There may also be the usual takeaway salad suspects of shredduce, tomato and onion. We also tend to treat parmos as being akin to a pizza base, so you will get varieties like “the hot one” generally with some kind of spicy salami, or my personal favourite, the bolognese parmo, which adds a beef ragu before the béchamel and cheese. You could probably do a whole episode on parmo abominations. Hell, I’m in the US next week, I’d probably fly to LA to come be a cultural ambassador and taste tester! 😂
I love all the mythical kitchen content but this has been one of my favorites ever. The style of the video was great too, leave everything the same just different types of food!
It's always a joy to hear Josh get deeply nerdy about food and it's origins. I think this has the potential to be very fun if it continues. Lord knows there are enough shared dishes, dumplings in particular you could get years of videos for that alone.
I’m surprised Guam was featured! I was born and raised there but never heard of that type of fried chicken. Definitely know about finedene though lol that’s like a staple in most homes there 😂
I absolutely lost it when Lily threw the frozen chicken across the table at Josh. I was like "What are they gonna do for Antarctica?" Was not disappointed in the least.
Josh, not only your beautiful Fried chicken from all over the world was great but the way you speak, describing the flavours, they literally make your viewers feel the taste as they watch you demonstrate! Very rarely have I been so totally engrossed in watching hearing and saying to myself, Umm! Have to make each of these special recipes as I love friend chicken. Thanks
Lived in Korea for a year, the chicken and beer places were the best thing that existed I don't understand how that isn't in America. It's so simple and so good
In Australia we have a very hotly debated culture war between saying Parmi or Parma. To find out the UK calls it parmo.... I'll never argue either way again. Parmo is the worst thing i've ever heard. Bloody poms.
If it helps I'm British and this is the first I've ever heard of it; you probably have more of a claim to call it what you like. Even if it was invented here it's certainly not a common food: American southern fried chicken is far more familiar in the UK
I’m part Brit and part Italian so I’m sure I can somewhat answer that. I don’t think i’ve ever heard Parmo in the UK. It’s definitely not the norm. I’d argue the more common is Paa-muh or Parma tho. Also, not to make it any more confusing but in Italy I’ve heard even more pronunciations for it lol. Hell, most people still call Parmigiano Parmesan half the time. Edit: apparently the dish was made in north Yorkshire so that adds up. I can see the harder accent spinning it that way.
Loved this style of video! Getting to see how each continent varies their flavors and techniques and how they are influenced by each other was really interesting! Maybe making a donut/fried dough dessert from each continent? love you guys ❤
Pizza? Oh that could be fun. I'm from Sweden and while we might not have the worst Pizza in the world we have some that would cause a lot of nasty comments. For instance I can't remember ever eating at a pizzeria that didn't have pizza with pineapple on the menu. Same with banana on pizza. From what I've heard those are considered abominations by most people. A few years back the most sold pizza was the kebab pizza and it was sold primarily Saturdays and Sundays as a pick me up after heavy drinking was taking it's toll. I have no idea why using kebab meat on a pizza was made so popular, but apparently it works when you are fighting a hangover. But really, pizza is so flexible that you can add almost anything to it and it will still be fine. I knew a pizza chef who tried to sell me cheese free pizza. It was something he had started eating when he was trying to control his weight and he was very fond of it. I never ate one so I have no idea if it really was good. He also served champagne to pizza as he thought it was a perfect match for taste.

At least the Australian Parma uses a tomato sauce/passata base with cheese and ham on top. The acid can at least cut through the fattiness of the breaded fry, which the UK Parmo is missing.
"Which Continent Has The Best" is a great segment with lots of choices
...and Josh didn't even answer that question in the end D:
I'd watch - rice, assorted meats, salads and soups; this is definitely a good idea for something recurring
Six, specifically. Seven in certain circumstances; something from McMurdo Research Station would be interesting.
Pot roast.
Pasta would be killer since there are so many different styles. Italian vs anywhere in East Asia vs the fusion of LA pasta vs Skyline Chili
Stuffed doughy things from each continent. Every country has its own dumpling-esque dish, from pierogi to empanadas to gyoza. Would love to hear of more off-the-beaten-path ones.
Deep fried dough like donuts is another recipe you see everywhere

Came here to say the same - stuffed dough!!
Jamaican pattie, maybe an aussie pie
Samosa too
More!!! Noodles from each continent!!
Pot roast.
hotdogs
