Happy Friday all. Josh, given your love for this franchise, especially the first, I’m truly shocked you haven’t covered it until now. I kinda thought you’d hold this out for your 100th timeline episode. Now I’ll have to wait and wonder what’s in store for that wonderful achievement. Thanks as always for your great content.
Finally! How long have I been asking for this one? Absolutely love you showing us the filming locations! In comic book connections, there was a Batman Elseworlds story called THE DOOM THAT CAME TO GOTHAM in which Dr. West is Bruce Wayne's physician.
Josh, I love almost all of your stuff, but this one was exceptional! I was in high school in the 1980's watching all this stuff, so when you've gone back there (horror, sword & sorcery), it's Heaven for me! LOVE the on location shooting too!
I’m surprised you didn’t add Jeffery Combs character from House on Haunted Hill 1999. I always felt they were clearly trying to tie the two characters together in that film.
I remember watching the music video for Beyond Re-Animator and wondering if the band had even watched any of the movies. My favorite line was "I'll hit you with my green color" followed closely by "Reanimate your feet"
If there's one thing I enjoy about the 3rd film, it's the scene that plays over the end credits. Because oooooh boy. I'll just Describe it as Master Splinter vs... Dick Grayson
Absolutely love the first one. In another timeline I feel like Jeffrey Combs could've been THE character actor of his generation, I always thought he showed up too seldom, for how much screen presence and intensity and camp he has.
The first, is a bonafide classic. The second has grown on me. The third, still leaves me a tad cold. But the original story is so ripe for a ten part Netflix series, it shocks me it hasn't been done yet.
Herbert west also appeared in an animated film called howard lovecraft and the kingdom of madness. It was the second film in a trilogy based on a comic series that used characters and concepts from lovecraft. Interestingly enough, Jeffrey combs had a voice role in the films but not as west and it also had doug Bradley.
Awesome video, Josh! Sad that Re-Animator doesn't get the wide acclaim of other 80s greats like Elm Street, because it's every bit as good as its contemporaries and better in some respects. I guess you throw in ONE decapitated cunnilingus scene and your movie gets the back room treatment (those of you who remember the video rental stores of the 80s know what I'm talking about).
fullmoon's new planned movie 'Doktor Death' is about a medical student, I wonder if it is going to be a spin-off in the Resonator universe, which would be interesting considering the titular puppet is from the Puppet Master universe and both have a different re-animating elixir.
Re-Animator, yes!!! Maybe my favorite horror series. I think the Resonator movie is supposed to be a sequel to From Beyond. And I like the on location scenes you do.
You had two different stories in your coverage. From Beyond, and the Resonator movies are apart from the Re-animator series. Great description though. They are all crazy
There is a manga, where this character first appears as a minor villain, before becoming an ally, the series also has other Lovecraftian creatures and in it Re-Animator created Shoggoth.
"Fantastic Factory" was a Spanish producer founded in 2001 which made some horror movies in English for the International Market. This one, Dagon, and some other ones. The only good one is "Darkness" from Jaume Balagueró wirn Anna Paquin. (Rec)
I've read the H.P. Lovecraft story. The first movie is a very loose adaptation. The scene in the hospital at the beginning of the sequel is inspired by a passage in the Lovecraft story in which Herbert West serves as a doctor at the front during World War I.
i don’t think the bat wing part was in the book? from what I remember, the collection of reanimated were rounded up by the military guy who had his head cut off and the scene in the tomb was the first time we had seen him, and he had the wax head thing like in the end of the original.
@@movietimelines In any case the movie has little to do with the story, but I guess that's a remark that can be made about most adaptations. The same thing can be said about From Beyond. The Lovecraft story is basically the opening scene of the movie.
@@movietimelines you could be right, it's just most of the last third of the film is heavily influenced by the last two chapters of the book (installments of the books!) and I could be misremembering... Off to re-read them, again.
Zurich, California... not to be confused with Zurich, Switzerland. *DING!* Dang it, I keep mixing up movie review channels. 😒 EDIT-- Why do I feel like the resurrected Dean's going for a dual chokeslam? 😀
I like when you go to the locations, but when it's a private residence I'm always afraid someone's gonna run out with a shotgun and tell you to get off their lawn or else.
lol. hasn’t happened yet. although I’m always careful to be very respectful and only shoot from either the sidewalk or street and don’t ever tread on their property.
Such a funky trilogy. I didn't know about all the other media featuring West. Anybody know if the Resonator is any good? The locations are very fun to see!
I’ve seen the first episode of the resonator and it’s fine. it’s a little better than the stuff full moon has been putting out lately, but it’s still not that great.
Not trying to be “that guy” but when you were covering spin-offs and other adaptations, you completely missed 1992’s SOV horror/comedy Reanimator Academy 😕
Any movie with Combs and Crampton is instantly great, they work so well together.
Re-Animator is in my top three horror films of all time. Jeffrey Combs is fantastic as West.
Soo happy to hear combs ain't done with the character and wants to do a part 4 or reboot! Good video bro💉🥼🧪👨🏻🔬 my too favorite horror series
Think a reboot happened already tho but love to see more
If they make more hopefully they'll be better than the one in the prison, that one let's the series down bad for me 😬
I'm sure a place like the "Myers House" gets a lot of visitors, but I wonder how many people have toured the Re-Animator locations before this.

Nice! I'm currently designing Jeffrey Combs for an animaton Ièm working on, itès not Re-Animator, but this is still a fun coincidence :D
hmm. i can’t quite figure out what it would be, but i will anxiously await it!
Finally! How long have I been asking for this one? Absolutely love you showing us the filming locations!

I've been waiting for this series! And we love the location shots

Can't believe it took this long but it was definitely worth the wait! Loved all the location visiting, Josh! Great video!

Awesome! Great vid. Re-animator feels like it's almost become a forgotten classic. Jeffrey Combs is a treasure.
If there's one thing I enjoy about the 3rd film, it's the scene that plays over the end credits.
Because oooooh boy. I'll just Describe it as Master Splinter vs... Dick Grayson
Top notch video, Josh, and I love the location stuff too. I'll have to check out those Resonator films...
I love the locations you go to!
Thx man I just always loved the Reanimator movies so much
Basically allmost all of combs horror movies
Oh and love the location shots. Absolutely.
Awesome Vid always enjoy how you show location to the movies. The Re-Animator series has some Amazing effects.
What I'd love is a crossover where Frankenstein's Creature tries to stop West.
Absolutely love the first one. In another timeline I feel like Jeffrey Combs could've been THE character actor of his generation, I always thought he showed up too seldom, for how much screen presence and intensity and camp he has.

I've always wondered what a closer adaptation to the original story keeping the time setting etc. Could be really good if done right.
No Jeffrey Combs no Reanamator, so yeah, no thanks. I'd watch a continuation if he was in it.
As someone who worked in medicine, I appreciate Reanimate r on a completely different level.
Beyond Re-animator is worth it for "the rat fight" scene.

Josh, you're putting yourself through medical school? That's awesome man, best of luck!
Love this video, love when you go to locations, keep up the good work!
Enjoying these on location videos
Wow it was great to see the actual locations, thanks for the awesome video

I'm actually glad it doesn't. It's like a little hidden horror gem for us fans.
@@Max_Sinister_26 Good point. 👍

Meg: I don't want to be zombie boinked!!!
Peter Griffin: Shut up, Meg.
That picture of the specimen locker = I can smell that picture from memory because of my career.
In The Mouth of Madness will always be my favorite lovecraft film. The jeffrey combs Reanimator series was so good though, very well written and acted.
Re-Animator, yes!!! Maybe my favorite horror series. I think the Resonator movie is supposed to be a sequel to From Beyond. And I like the on location scenes you do.
Dr. Hans Gruber as his eyes burst
"This hurts worse than Bruce Willis throwing me out of a building on Christmas!!!"

I love your videos but all I can think of is how expensive your mortgage or rent is.. It's gotta be nuts
You didn't mention the Re-Animator musical.
I'm sure studying medicine at Miskatoni Medical School (MMS) must be expensive.

As is the whole bat winged, severed head. Bonkers in the film, but what was Lovecraft on, over a 100 years ago, to think it up!

That music is also in at least one of the Friday the 13ths right? I’m thinking Part 3, but I’m not positive.
Lol that music video
Yes, because when I think of "Re-Animator", I think of Baha Men knock-off songs.
Keep up the great work👍👍
How did the cop get a decapitated head from a circus? These films are so funny.
In that "Move Your Dead Bones" video = That's a fake bone saw. Trust me on that one.
cool locations
It sucks that there's only a few good movies based on HP Lovecraft stories
Arkham = I'd love to see a Batman/Reanimator crossover.
Amazing restraint to skip talking about the rat vs reanimated dong fight during the credits of Beyond Reanimator. You're more mature than I, sir.
Elsa Pataky Hemsworth, who is starring in an action flick on Netflix soon, where she alone saves the world.
Thanks Josh, I'll never be able to afford enough bottles of bleach to pour into my ears to rid them of that Godawful song.....Nightmare fuel :(
don't his cameo count at the end in the movie "Time Tracers" 1997 ??
9:02 That's not Blue Steel, it's Magnum!
Zurich, California... not to be confused with Zurich, Switzerland. *DING!* Dang it, I keep mixing up movie review channels. 😒 EDIT-- Why do I feel like the resurrected Dean's going for a dual chokeslam? 😀
I prefer the Terror at Blood Fart Lake music video version of "Move Dem Bones"!
Love the location shots! But you know you're not allowed that close to a high school. Shame on you.
Another great upload bud did anybody see Thor son of Odin wife sorry bit of crappy trivia 🥴
Why can't this classic be brought back when a 1000 inferior horror franchises have been...um...reanimated.
So no mention of the end credits sequence in Beyond The Re-Animator where a mouse fights a re-animated severed penis. ☹️
And yes Fieild trips are the best
Oh yeah baby ! 😃
Movie is a classic
Getting really close to 100 here
"something"
As a Lovecraft fan, I sure hope you watched Lovecraft Country.
i haven’t. as many movies as i watch, shows are hard to fit into my schedule. i did watch the first episode, and thought it was pretty damn great.
I like when you go to the locations, but when it's a private residence I'm always afraid someone's gonna run out with a shotgun and tell you to get off their lawn or else.

Something.
Have you ever thought about doing Timelines of Horror Actors - a dive into the film history of famous horror actors, writers, etc.? that would be cool
it’s funny you mention this, because I’ve had something like this in mind for a while, but with directors.
@@movietimelines thats cool too!

I like Resonator. It tries to keep the spirit of From Beyond, with a lower budget. Much lower.
Something in the comments
I saw the Italian one. Its not good.
Entitered
Saying something down in the comments.
Could have done without the zombie sexual assault in these movies though. Just sayin.

you’re right. definitely should have popped that in there.
