There is a hauntingly beautiful quality in Kates voice. When she got to Number 1 in the UK Charts with 'Wuthering Heights' it was the first time a female singer got to the top of the charts with a song she wrote herself.
One of the best Christmas songs ever. Kate live is a magical bonus. Yiu should check out her performance of this sing on the ABBA snowtime special, she's adorable. Great reaction.
This song was released as a single just before the 1980 Christmas. The sleeve design is rather unique and the song is, course, another wonderful piece of music by Kate. A very nice reaction. Wishing you a Merry Ho-Ho and Happy Kringle.
Kate is an expert at telling a story with word imagery and sound imagery. Her sound is not at all dated because she's like her own genre. She's the Picasso of music. Completely original. She is only slightly older here than in the Wuthering Heights videos (there's quite a few of them). I vibe on the piano playing here too. You should check out her song Snowflake that has her son Bertie on it singing the lead. It's kind of a speak sing at times and Kate sings the refrain.
That song was the only Christmas related item in Kate's 1979 BBC Christmas Special, which freatured Peter Gabriel as a guest star (who Kate worked with on his 3rd studio album). It also included three songs that would appear on her 3rd studio album, "Never For Ever," which she co-produced and was released in 1980. Reasonable quality versions of the entire Christmas Special, which was titled "Kate," can be found on TH-cam.
In Kate's younger years (first 3 albums) she wanted to experiment with her vocal range (especially the upper range of her 4 octave voice) and was known for her gymnastics of vocal highs and swooping lows. During her mid-career her voice became more mid range and she has an absolutely beautiful smooth and seductive style. And of course now in her late career her mature voice has lowered a bit and is more soulful and just breathtakingly gorgeous. Kate initially wrote this song as a Christmas gift for her family and never intended to record it. However her family loved it so much they convinced her to record it.
Kate HAS actually made a song about snow: "50 words for snow" with Stephen Fry, no less. Her voice has changed a lot over the years; I often gravitate towards the earlier albums and her younger voice like here. I have used the phrase "December is magic again" several times this month.
We know we know she's 20 since 1978 and forever...not allow to grow old, not allow to evolve musically.... Thank Lord, she's rich enough to do what she wants, not to have to sing ad nauseum Wuthering heights on hits tours.
@@isobeljames1328 What are you on about? I just said I tend to gravitate to the early stuff, not that I listen to it exclusively. I love all her ages and her evolving music. She's been with me for 40 years. As for allowed to grow old, if you listen to "jig of life", Kate said it best herself in that song.
@@Accolonian I can't stand those fans who think she's 20 since 1978 and forever.... Want her to sing songs written 46 years ago, you sound like them.... Kate Bush is 66 years old.... 66 years... Next year 67... Peace. On Earth.
Always A thick blanket of new snow Has come today And hides away the season’s wear Painting it’s beauty on the scenery The sound of my steps is made quiet And in the deep covering My prints seem to follow behind Ghostly record on the unsullied ground I walk alone But the past walks with me The lane underneath buried Knows my feet And will not let me forget For I have tread here before Snow with or without My wandering From you - to you For you Always
Ypu should check out her song Breathing. It's amazing how she wrote the music to capture breathing. If your curious and she's getting you views you should react to one of the many little documentorys about her on YT. I'm sure her fans would like and watch. She wrote and recorded an entire album about snow and winter "50 Words for Snow". She's always been full of surprise's. You shouldsee the rest of this special, they would have never aired it over here. Merry Christmas.
I think that Kate is playing the basic chords and runs in the song, and the guy on the other piano behind her is playing the big arpeggios and the tinkles.
Another Christmas-themed song you could do is River by Joni Mitchell, an artist whose originallity and creative greatness is at least equal Kate's IMO.
Kate Bush is a Goddess.Everything she does is fabulous..Look forward to your future Kate Bush reactions .
The studio version of this is magical. You can find it on TH-cam. Always lovely to give it a spin at this time of year.
She is an unforgettable artist, much more than just a singer.

She has a song called Snowflake that sounds like snow falling, but is slower and a bit darker. You should check it!

Lovely piano work on this one - one of the most original Xmas songs ever
Kate made a whole album about snow call '50 Words for Snow'! Which is my favorite of hers. Great reaction and very on point analysis!
Thank you Jesse for taking my request, I’m so happy you enjoyed this so much. Kate and Christmas, how can you get better? ❤

Ghostly record on the unsullied ground

My wandering
From you - to you

Great song, you should have a listen to the studio version Kate released in 1980 it has a little more sparkle to it 🤩

@@flowersafterrainfall On "Wuthering Heights" Kate is on piano, producer Andrew Powell on celeste (and bass) plus Duncan Mackay on organ.
