good job with it Gregg. I'd say to keep it. I often find that when I keep old experiments and projects, that over the months and years, I keep adding little improvements and it eventually becomes perfectly natural against the newer project and completes the scene in a sense.

Looks great, with the corrugated plastic holes, either fill them in with glue, plaster, or maybe the hot glue. Love the color, makes it look realistic. I do agree the make the holes bigger. Can’t wait for the next video, Gregg you did a wonderful job. Cheers from stormy Nebraska.

Dear Gregg, very cool snow shed mockup! For the final build I would like to suggest you rip the 18mm stringer to the right angle. After that it may be cool to dado cut the vertical spacing for each support and stanchion into the stringer. That will make the building job very easy and sturdy.
Two notes, first for the location of the snow shed, you may wanna add some sort of slope above the snow shed, to make it look believable. Second, whilst your train traveled through the tunnel and the shed, your signal facing the opposite direction won’t be to visible for the train driver, as it is kind of obscured by the snow shed pillars.
Love the vid by the way. Looking forward to seeing you color those rocks! Cheerio

Hi Gregg, another great video mate,
yes keep it for the layout in SA I'm sure you will able to find a place for it and make it look good.
Looking forward to your future videos on rock painting.
Cheers from another Brisvegas train enthusiast. [nut]

Thank you Tony! The new layout has been designed with scenery in mind, more so than this one, so a few spots for stuff like this.
Glad you enjoyed it and hope to get the next video done in a week or two.
      Cheers Gregg.

Nice one Gregg. As soon as the "paint" goes on and you apply the the "3 foot" rule, it will look a million $$$$. 😊
I reckon you should continue 😅tarting it up. The whole thing will slowly tranform to a very useful addition to your empire.

Looks great as a mockup. It gives you an idea of how it will size up on the new Birdwood Subdivision when you make your move.

Nice work Gregg. You could easily fill the corrugations with artists modelling paste....readily available from Office Works. It's pre-mixed and comes in a jar. Very easy to use.

Nice work. Only a prototype, so I'd say don't hang onto it for the new layout - it'll always be "not quite right" after you've made others, learning from this one. Just a thought: if you used balsa wood, you'd have the wood grain ready and present to represent the embossing of the shuttering into which the concrete was poured (assuming that's how they make them).

All the effort you put into the prototype should not be wasted. I'd go for adding detail and weathering. How about a few loose random bits of gravel laying about on the roof?

i'm impressed. the arches are rough. of course cutting corry neatly is difficult but, for your next one you can finish the arches with sandpaper wrapped around a piece of broom handle. i think the one youve just done can be made to look deceptively real.

    • @FishplateFilms
      @FishplateFilms  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Thank you ! The arches are actually like this in the one I copied, though a bit cleaner of course! I have seen one with round arches , but liked this one better. I will do a round arch one next and see how it looks.
      Cheers Gregg.

I think the shed looks good for a first draft. I think that you should sprucen it up with some plaster and paint, and keep it somewhere on the layout. Maybe you could theme the shed to be one of decades of service that is weathered and showing it's age. I was curious, but can rock and mud slides occur along any length of mountain overshadowing railroad tracks or do they only occur in specific places? I ask because if the former is true, then shouldn't the entire length of track adjacent to mountain cliffs be protected by shedding? Cheers, Joe.

Nice job Gregg, I'm like you and do mock-ups in cardboard or some other material first before building to test look and placement. Have you thought about balsa wood or styrene? Both very easy to work with and lightweight. Balsa you could score or press in lines, carvings etc and they make styrene with textured sides too. Just a thought, but keep it going. Cam "railfan 220" I think, has some really nice looking snow sheds on his layout. I believe he scratch built them too if it gives you some ideas. - Steve

Good Morning my friend it's MRL/man you did a nice job on the tunnel.
I,m trying to work on the wiring of the Dcc.
Are you coming out to see the big boy come down from Evanston Wyoming to Ogden Utah in July 20-21 ,24
It,s good to see you on TH-cam again.

Thanks Neil! DCC is great but can get complicated, though the benefits far outway the issues! I'd love to see the Big boy in action, but it would involve a trip to the US which I can't do atm . I hope they keep it running so I can see it in a few years time?
      Cheers Gregg.
